Favourite Sonic the Hedgehog game?

I've always been a Sonic fan. I own (or have played) every game there was, except for Sonic Shuffle. ;(
Anyways, what's your favourite Sonic game, and why?
A poll in my opinion is pointless, because it doesn't explain WHY you like it amongst the others. I'm not sure how many will post to this, but whatever.
Mine would be Sonic CD for the computer. It had a nice plot along with excellent sounds and music. The graphics were perfect, and the gameplay was fast-paced and a lot more detailed. I liked how you could go into the past in that game as well.
Probably my favourite feature to the game was the cartoon movies added to show the beginning, end, and other cool things.
Oh how I wish I still had that game. ;(

My second one would be Sonic Adventure (originally for Dreamcast). Every level played in that game just blows me away.

Sonic CD! Like you said Drew, excellent soundtrack, and the levels are awesome (Stardust Speedway and
Wacky Workbench are my two favs).

If I had to choose a second, it would be either Sonic 2 or Sonic and Knuckles, both look good, sound really good, and play really well. Sonic 2 is much harder though, so I'm still trying to decide...

Stardust Speedway!
The music and level design on that... <3
I thought Sonic and Knuckles was harder than Sonic 2... but then again when I was in kindergarten I was playing Sonic 2 from 8am-12pm five days a week (what a great babysitter, eh? ^__^)
A lot of people have never played the Game Gear Sonic games... I love the original for that (it was made in 1991, I wonder if it came out before the Sega Genesis one?)

Sonic and Knuckles. Love that game. Still have no idea what happened to the S3&K package I bought years ago.

The gamegear sonics were pretty good! I forgot about those! I have 1 on the Sonic adventure DX, 2 and Chaos (awesome game!!!) on my gamegear (yes, I have a gamegear, a system known to man and ape  XD).

Sonic CD was my first video game ever D;

I never beat it :/ I guess when you're five the games kinda hard.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is my all time favorite. Out of the newer 3D ones I'd have to say Sonic Adventure 2, because they introduce Shadow who is now my favorite Sonic character.

Exactly! Listen to that guy! The gamegear was much more powerful, but the power was not utilized!!!

1.Sonic and the Secret Rings - Actually makes good use of the Wiimote(*coughtpportcough*), let alone plays better than any other Sonic game I've had, and the story isn't too c***** either.  Erazor > Eggman all the way, and maybe even DarkSpine Sonic > Super Sonic.  Love the art.
2.Sonic Heroes - Just lots of fun, and it's calssicy feel is cool.
3.Sonic Adventure 2/Battle - Good story, I guess, even if a little short.  I would have wished for just Sonic and Shadow stages, but Eggman's weren't too bad.
4.Shadow the Hedgehog - Even though I hate Shadow and how this game just rips the story from SA2/B, it actually expands on it.  It was nice seeing the ARK again, but other than that I felt the art direction s*****.  The guns weren't needed but they didn't really detract from the experience, and I guess being able to choose different paths was cool.
5.Sonic Adventure/DX - While this game is fun, it's short, easy, and only half the characters are fun to play as.  I also disliked the story a lot.  I'd still play it from time to time though if I still had it.

I'm not sure about the older games or the one Advance game I've played.  I never got past the 3rd level on StH for the Game Gear(it was on SA/DX, not sure if there's any differences), nor did I get too far in any of the others.  I did get to the end of Sonic Advance 2, but it seems a whole h*** of a lot more straightforward anyway.

I liked Sonic and Knuckles a lot, but it pissed me off a lot.  I guess that means Sonic 2 is my favorite.

Sonic 2 is always the one that comes to my mind first, the level and boss design in that was just superb. The last few zones are so epic too. The only complaint I'd have is that it was a bit too easy.

Sonic 1 comes next on the nostalgia scale, Robotnik at the end was a very memorable boss fight...and it was a nice and challenging game, which I always like.

Sonic 3 and SnK seemed a bit different to me, like they'd lost some of the atmosphere....it was cool playing as Knuckles and all, but it just seemed a bit high tech for me and had lost some of the fun.


All the 3D games are just !@#$%. Not worth even mentioning.

Gamegear WAS the best handheld system out there. Hell, you could watch TV on there if you bought the transmitters. It's a shame it didn't get as much attention as it could've.

Hey, I'd say it's my second favourite. I beat that when I was in kindergarten too. XD Forget Sonic Adventure ^__^

I really liked sonic 3 hooked up to sonic and knuckles, that was the best in my opinion. I still really like Sonic 2 and Sonic CD though (I gots teh sonic CD for the Sega CD! BEAT THAT!). As for the newer sonics, I guess I kinda do like Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, seeing as I put over a 100 hours into it...

Can anyone tell my why the 3D games are so bad, aside from the voice actors or a select few cutscenes?  There's never been much wrong with the gameplay at all, it's just classic Sonic gameplay in 3D with some tweaks for each game.  I never had a problem with the camera, because 99.4% of the time it faced the direction you were supposed to go in.

Ever played Ristar? It's the game concept that Sonic evolved from, and it's on Game Gear as well. It's also a completely awesome game, might be better than Sonic.
