[Demo] Zelda Infinity
« on: January 12, 2011, 12:18:07 am »
First off I'd like to explain that this is an old project I had lying around on my flash drive. Me and a friend started this engine to begin development for an ambitious LoZ fan game. With a lack of communication halting our development it died off. I'm here interested in bringing it back to life and finishing most, if not all of the planned game.

Originally I had planned this to be a fully working Zelda engine that I could use to create Zelda and Zelda esque games right off the bat. A huge list of features and additions were written up and I began programming. Like I said progress halted. I decided to name the project "Zelda Infinity" and come here looking for some enthusiasm and hope that this project is worth continuing.

Well, if anyone is interested in bringing back this project, or even helping me out with it, post and vote please. Now away from this boring introduction and on to the juicy part of this post, the game itself. The game is currently done with the GBC physics/graphics in mind but can easily(I hope) be modified to fit other needs.

Current features:
Basic movement and sprite changing for all the programmed actions
Smooth collisions with slopes
Health engine
Typing text engine
Enemies
Magic meter (No magic yet, just the meter)
Basic, unpolished death sequence
Rolling
Sword attacking (No spin attack functionality yet)
Music and sounds
Other things I may have forgotten to mention

Screenshots:

Rolling

Bounce back when you hit a wall by rolling!

Octoroks!

Sweet, sweet heart containers.

Typing text engine

Cave area with a custom enemy sprite

Inside a house

Lost woods. Shows the depth behind trees.

Controls:
Z - Interact with people and roll
X - Sword attack
W/S - Increase/decrease the magic meter
A/D - Increase/decrease your health

I put a lot of work into it when I was working on it and it shows but there are some unpolished features. Mostly stuff I never got around to working on or adding. Hope you enjoy it! Let me know how you like it, bugs, suggestions, and most importantly, should I continue it?

Fede Lasse from the GMC for a script I used in-game
Muzzle from the GMC for the hearts engine

Somehow using Link's voice in GB games doesn't sound right :D

Pretty cool. Has some bugs though, I sometimes get stuck on trees and such trying to walk past and you can't walk with your sword out.

Can you explain how you got stuck? I've tested this engine a lot and only found one bug, a sprite bug I couldn't recreate. I haven't added spin attack yet so that's why you can't walk with the sword out.
