in b4 Harry Potter

No, I like Harry Potter. But it's not *true* fantasy in the real tradition. WoW got me into Western-style fantasy, and I've been reading George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, and so far it's absolutely excellent; I'm almost finished with the 2nd book in the series, "A Clash of Kings."

I thought about picking up the first novel in Goodkind's "Sword of Truth" series of books. so ITT fantasy novels I guess

Narnia. No, believe me, it seems kiddie, but if you can get past that and the religious stuff, then its pretty good.
LoTR. Duh.
Inheritance Trilogy. Ftw.
And I just started a series called the wheel of time, and its good.

<3 Narnia.

Yeah, obviously LotR is excellent...too bad I never actually read the books. They are universally regarded as being awesome, however.

Eragon SUCKED. UGH. I couldn't even finish it because the beginning was so silly.

I've heard Wheel of Time is pretty good...I read the prologue from the first novel and it had me intrigued.

He's talking about the trilogy of books based upon the Halo universe and the events that occur in Halo 1.

I asked the same question in IRC, didn't get a decent response.
D&D is what got me into fantasy literature, so I might try reading some of the D&D novels. Has anyone read them?

The Hobbit, obviously.

It's not true fantasy, but I can't help but suggest "The Saga of Darren Shan", which is about a boy in a normal life who gets dragged into a world of Vampires when he tries to save his friends life.

Haha, remember reading the Darren Shan saga. It was okay I suppose, but I wouldn't recommend it for older readers.

I'm looking forward to try any Forgotten Realms books, it's Fantasy-style, but I'm not sure how it is.

The Artemis Fowl series is awesome, but it's sort of a "realistic" fantasy, since it mixes science and fantasy.

Discworld novels are pretty good :P, and Warhammer fantasy novels are brilliant!

Am I the only person that actually listened to Cortana and the other NPCs of Halo talking? Or watched the Cutscenes?

my sister is obsessed with those books, so I refuse to read them. They don't sound that great anyway, IMO. She had my mom take her to Chicago (that's about 7 hours of driving total) to go meet him for 2 seconds at a book signing.

Heard about Discworld, haven't read it though. It hardly sounds like a serious novel :P

Man, why has no one said any of the books from the Redwall series?  :P
But seriously, Mossflower by Brian Jacques is probably my favorite book of all time.

Also, Eragon sucks, end of story.  The guy who wrote it has no talent, and it was only made popular because of the fact he's young, even though he's terrible at writing and couldn't come up with an original story.  I will applaud him for actually finishing a novel, but still, that achievement doesn't excuse the suck.

I've read lots of good books, classics, but I the Inheritance Trilogy is still my favorite. And I found out about it before it got famous and before I knew this guy was young.

Well Eragon wasn't that bad, but it did overuse like, every fantasy cliché in the book and had very sloppy writing.
