OK, I'm not sure if this is meant to go here, but I'm using RPG Maker 2003 and found out how to do more things, such as how to make events and everything, but when I try to import sprites or anything, no matter what kind of file they are*.bmp, .png, .jpeg, etc.) it always says "invalid color depth".  What's the problem?

The only way that I know how to solve this problem is by loading the pictures into photoshop then going to Image>Mode>Indexed Color... then so long as the amount of colors used is under 250 ish (I don't remember the exact number) just click ok then save the file as a .png and you'll be good to go.

under 250 is unlikely, it's probably about 256 colors.

There's such a double standard about religion in the modern world. Catholics can gather, wear white robes, and say "In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti" and be considered normal.

But if my friends and I gather, wear black robes, and say  "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn", we're considered cultists.

Eh, you have to be precise with colors & such with programs like this. if you use 255, it'd be pissed. if you used 257, it'd also be pissed <_<

ANYWAYS, yeah, 256 seems like the number it'll use.

As long as the image has 256 colors or less its prefectly fine in RM2k3, it just has to be in an Indexed color mode, but it would be pissed at 257 of course XD

you need an 8 bit image

RPGMAKER can read 8bit png and gif just fine (1-256 colors- anyhting above that drops certain colors to keep it at 256 automatically upon export)

Get irfan viewer and open the file then export as gif (gif's file imit is 256 so no need to change options) export and the import in rpg maker
