There's Dracula 2000, but I haven't seen that either. Got bad reviews, I seem to remember.

Not seen it personally, but it's pretty infamous.

Might be a larf...

Disco Dracula? Is this the one starring Frank Langella? The one by the guy who directed Saturday Night Fever?

Entertainment / A genuine request regarding Twilight Princess spoilers
« on: October 31, 2006, 06:20:28 pm »
So Twilight Princess is (finally!) nearly upon us. People in the industry have played it, strategy guides have been printed and magazines are running their launch features. A lot of new information is going to be made available in the remaining couple of weeks before its US release, which means - for those of us who want to experience the game without knowing everything of what to expect - SPOILERS.

I want to make a serious request for people to be aware of what they post, and that some people might not want to hear it just yet.

So I guess I'm proposing an clearly labelled TP discussion thread where any and all spoilerrific talk should go, and possibly a message in the Important Info directing people there. What I don't want to stumble across are topics titles like "OMG!!!!!!!! DID YOU KNOW TETRA IS ZELDA!!!!!!!!" which, in an instant, ruins a part of the story for those who didn't want to know. Apologies for those of you who've not played Wind Waker yet, but now you see my point.  :P

Obviously, the alternative is to stay away until, for those of us in Europe at least, 8th December, which I would rather not have to do...

What do you guys think? I hope you don't think I'm being a hard on about this, but I just want to enjoy the game with the surprises intact! And I know not everybody here is even interested in TP, but if you could honour this request it would be really cool. Cheers.  ;D

I voted yes, you should release a small town demo. That way you could at least get feedback, get a feeling for what people like or don't like so you don't waste time rebuilding something you may want to change later. Plus you'd please a lot of people...!

If you plan on including the train, let me know and I'll get those animations finished.  ;D

Righto, since cb43569 is waging a surreal blackmail campaign against me via PM  ;D I thought I'd better appease him by explaining the lack of updates recently and let you all know that, following this update, I'll probably be taking the game underground for a while, possibly even until the demo's finished. I've been working hard and it's going really well, it feels like it's finally coming together as a game, but it's going so well I feel like I really want to keep it under wraps now until nearer release...

Until OOTz-Hooz gravedug this topic with his first (and last!) post (don't worry - I think you got away with it!) it was languishing on page 2, where, with the demo so far away, it should probably stay. So yeah, keeping your interest will be difficult with such a long wait, so I feel this should be the last update for a while. I want to get my head down and finish the demo and deliver it at z3 with maximum impact.

So what have I been working on? The opening area is virtually built - a few tiles missing but essentially it's all there - and I'm populating it with NPCs at the moment. It's all been integrated with the clock so that the tilesets swap nicely between their day and night versions, lights come on and go off and smoke comes out of the chimneys at certain times, and the NPCs appear in different places and say different things throughout the three day cycle. So far so good.

Mainly though, I've been working on adding the sound. Concentrating most of my effort on a robust music/ambient sounds engine that can do whatever I want it to, whenever I want. There's a lot to get my head round since it's all connected to the passing of time. Stuff like: does the music fade as the sun sets and does that volume remain constant when passing between two rooms with different themes? Does the dawn fanfare play when the day breaks and you're outside, but not inside? Does the birdsong fade out to crickets chirping at the right time, and do they both they fade when you enter a building? Can it accommodate cinematics? A ton of crap to think about, but I reckon I've done it. I certainly haven't encountered any bugs yet, but it's a pain in the arse to test because it's tied to the clock, which I can't speed up for testing purposes and be sure of an accurate picture of how it'll behave... But it appears to be working seamlessly!  ;)

So that's all I have to report. It may not sound like much, but it feels to me like I've overcome a great hurdle. I'll still be here at the forums of course, and I'll be posting more concept sketches (since I may not end up using them) but if you're really that desperate to know what's going on, feel free to drop me a PM from time to time.

Cheers!

Looks good so far. I like the crescent-shaped island, Lunara. Using my razor-keen powers of deduction I surmise that the moon will play some role in this game.  :P
Gotta say the title doesn't grab me by the balls, but the rest certainly has my interest piqued.

And I think I recognise your team's logo - have you made other games?

« on: October 28, 2006, 05:19:40 pm »
The story looks unoriginal, uninspired, cheesy, and silly. I'm sorry, but the plot could use some serious work.

Cheesy temple names (unoriginal too), Link is talking now (...he never talks), he is poor or something so he wants revenge? And then "but a darkness overcomes during the journey!: - well there is a darkness in every journey, some evil is the point of Link doing anything in the first place!
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to overly critical, though the temples names need work and so does the whole going to Ganondorf thing, he is working on it, and not unoriginal, ooh Links talking, so it is ORIGINAL Link is different.

Clearly Link becoming overcome by evil is not being beaten, it is him TURNING evil Link is the evil in this story, so you can't say that is not original and
Quote
some evil is the point of Link doing anything in the first place!
it has never been himself before!!!!

I am so sick of people shooting down working, early, ideas, you have no idea what the outcome will be, so just stop critisizing people with no basis!!! >:(
I agree with Scooter, I'm afraid. This is a child-like, clich??d idea of what it means to be 'dark'. Link turns evil. Blood. Death. Yawn. I would say this premise has been done to death, but none of those projects ever make it past Early Productions & Ideas. If this fares any better, maybe I'll take another look, but with nothing to make it stand out from the crowd it's a real turn off for me.

Edit:
And this is a perfectly legitimate place for criticising stories/plots however early in develpment they are.

« on: October 26, 2006, 06:33:00 am »
I was thinking of putting an i support banner of my game on my nintendo account.... :jellytime:
If there's a quicker way of getting your game shut down than letting Nintendo know it exists, let me know. I'm all ears...

Go ahead. Your funeral. Do us all a favour though, and don't leave a trail back here, eh?

look! what do you see when you are on this forum? thousands of zelda remakes and fan games... So i would say that there's a 70-30 chance that nintendo has found out. so I reckon there's a member who is like a mod for nintendo... making sure no-one abuses the system
-SK ;)
Hands up who honestly thinks Nintendo would employ someone to browse this forum and others like it, ensuring none of the projects get too big to threaten their very livelihoods???

Doesn't happen. They???re not interested.

If, on the other hand, you e-mail a Nintendo representative to ask "Can I make a Zelda game?" they will say no, it's their job to say no, cease and desist please.

Edit:
The original question has been answered. On the front page, and on every page thereafter. This is a clearly grey area, and all I see now are posts confusing the issue further. And I'm sorry, but I don't think some of the members here have the maturity to understand the ramifications of approaching Nintendo directly, and I don't think they're equipped to deal with the inevitable answer without causing trouble for the community as a whole. So let's not put any ideas in their heads. Loose lips sink ships and all that malarkey.

So I implore any mods who may be reading this to lock this topic before someone does something stoopid!  ;D

That is all.  :P

Hey, KM, where can I find some music by P5? I want to hear them, but never seen anything of theirs around.
There's a bit of P5 on YouTube at the moment, not much, and limited to the singles/promo videos. There's a lot more to them than you'll find there but it's as good a place to start as any. Here are a couple of links if you are feeling lazy:  ;)

Y'know the more this question is asked - particularly to the companies themselves - the profile of fan games gets raised higher, and with that comes greater likelihood of getting shut down...

All the answers you need are here in this thread, Laigonaz, if I were you I'd read it again, and lock this topic.

But in short, Nintendo, or Games Workshop for that matter, will not care about your fan game. They will never know it exists. Unless you tell them.

Wow! king mob said that the heart containers will be made out of 5 parts this time! , how did i find out? t'was too easy, you should've put gibberish, not the actual thing!
Actually, I did that so that people with an aversion to spoilers didn't have to read it, but I guess that's irrelevant now, isn't it?! Muppet!  ;D

I'll be getting it, of course. Longer wait for us in the UK for both TP and the Wii though, so I'm seriously considering importing the Cube version first. Feels like I've been waiting for this game forever...

But, as of two days ago when I found out there are five pieces to each heart container this time out - hardly ruins the game I know, but it signals the time has come when real information starts leaking, I felt it was time to go spoiler-free. So, I'm being very careful about where I go on the web from here on out! Which includes this thread, I guess... Heh.  :P

I have MC, FSA, WW, OOA and OOS, MM and OOT (on the N64 and Cube), LA(DX), LTTP (on GBA and SNES), AOL (on the Cube) and LOZ (on the Cube - and in Animal Crossing!  ;))
So the only ones I don't have are the BS Zeldas and the dodgy CD-i ones, but they don't count anyways...

From IGN.com:
"Watch Out Wii, Here Comes Fusion
Cross-format motion-sensor controller in development by In2Games.
by Alex Simmons, IGN UK
UK, October 20, 2006 - British peripheral developer In2Games has lifted the lid on a Wii-style controller it's developing that will bring wire-free waving fun to PC and next-gen consoles. Codenamed Fusion, the wireless controller consists of a sensor box and a Wii-mote-style baton that works with any USB-compatible machine, so titles previously exclusive to Nintendo's next-gen console could soon be appearing on both PlayStation and Xbox without losing their original control system."
Full story

I think I'm only surprised by how quickly they intend getting this out.  ::)
Still, helluva risk for any developers to throw money at making games built around this...
