Entertainment / The Snakes on a Plane Soundtrack
« on: August 19, 2006, 02:23:19 am »
Just like the movie, this album was way better than I expected it to be. Okay, so it's really not that great I guess. However, I recommend acquiring it for the following songs:

1. Snakes on a Plane - Cobra Starship: I love danceable stuff like this. It's simple, it's cheesy, it's fun music. Also, the main chorus actually sounds really badass despite its simplicity.

2. Ophidiophobia - Cee Lo Green: I <3 everything Gnarls Barkley, so I loved this song as well. Definitely has the Gnarls sound to it, so you'll probably love or hate it.

3. Jack's Mannequin - Bruised (Remix): I loved the original version of the song, it was probably the best song on one of the best pop albums of 2005. The new remix changes just enough to keep things interesting but adds more depth to the song. Love it.

4. Donovan Frakenreiter - Lovely Day: The song from the opening sequence. I dunno, it's just a really laid back, happy song. I like it a lot.

The reggae song on there is okay, but most of the other remixes are of already kind of lame songs (Fall Out Boy =x). The Black Mamba remix from the Academy Is is pretty cool, as is the song from the Bronx, but they don't live up to the four I highlighted.

Other Discussion / Daemon Tools HALP
« on: August 19, 2006, 12:07:07 am »
So I wanted to actually use my, you know, REAL CD drive versus one of the virtual ones Daemon created. Problem is, it's not there in My Computer. Disabling Daemon doesn't work either.

Can you help a nub out?

Other Discussion / Getting my hair cut, and need some suggestions.
« on: July 28, 2006, 07:09:16 pm »
Well, you've seen what my hair looks like now (if you haven't, dig through mug shots). I've decided, after much deliberation, to get it cut. However

- It will not be super short
- It will be shorter than it is now
- I refuse to use hair gel, hair spray, or any of that crap
- It will not be the standard short haircut worn by 90% of the male population.

Any ideas?

Graphics / Some 3D stuff I've done. (56k warning)
« on: July 26, 2006, 10:03:52 pm »
A large amount of some 3D work I've done in the past. All work is done in Rhinoceros 3D, in NURBS, not polys.

Game Boy Advance SP.

Keyblade from KH.

Unfinished GameCube.

An island with a really crappy bump map for the water...super pixelated ftl

A wasp.

Really cool subway project that I never quite finished.

A small fall scene. All things except the trees were modeled in Rhino. Trees were prefabs in 3DSMax. Rendered in 3DSMax.

If you loved Garden State as much as I did, I'm sure you're looking forward to Zach Braff's next project.

Entertainment / The best bands you've never heard of
« on: July 13, 2006, 06:59:55 pm »
Tell us about some bands that don't get the success they deserve.

The Perishers: A great Swedish indie outfit that pumps out some truly beautiful songs. One of them, "Sway" is particularly personal to me, so maybe I'm just biased, but the music has a really pretty, if not wholly remarkable sound. www.myspace.com/theperishers

Deltron 3030: A one-time supergroup formed from a number of artists and producers, this is hip-hop for people who don't really like hip-hop. The music is good, but what really sets these guys apart are their lyrics. Songs about the world of the future, photosynthesis, and space stations round it off. www.myspace.com/deltron3030

Talib Kweli: This guy works with a lot of mainstream rappers but his solo stuff doesn't get nearly enough credit. It's intelligent, unique hip-hop with a lot of great beats. www.myspace.com/talibkweli

Eric James and the New Century: A great piano-based pop band with some good songs and lyrical talent. www.myspace.com/ericjamespace

Anyone else catching this tonight/tomorrow? I'm going with my friend Chelsea to see Superman Returns (again...lol), then at midnight possibly to a premiere of PotC 2. It's gotten mixed reviews, and I know some theaters actually premiered it last night.

EDIT: AVAST, SPOILERS OFF THE STARBOARD BOW

Other Discussion / So how's your summer going?
« on: June 26, 2006, 02:57:52 am »
Well I have to say this is shaping up to be the best summer of my life. Some high points so far:

- A rafting trip I got back from a few hours ago, I went with a friend's youth group. I've never laughed so much in my life, and rafting really is an awesome experience, not just because of the waves. It's really great just being out seemingly miles from civilization on a river with only 6 other people...you feel a strange connection with the world or something, I don't really know how to describe it.
- Hanging out regularly with a really, REALLY amazing girl :)
- Lots of random stuff with friends, usually on a regular basis: movies, mall trips, cruising, whatever we do, it's always fun.

And soon to come:

- License beginning of next month. FINALLY!
- I'm making my own independent film this summer that I'm pretty sure is gonna be a reality...check out www.myspace.com/destructofilms if you're curious.

So how about yours?
