I have the majority of it figure out but I have no idea how they run away from you. Any ideas?
(I'm using Gm6.1)

There's a GML command that lets you check the distance from one object to another. You could check if for example the player is coming from left to run to right. And so on for the other directions.

Like that idea. May do that.

one of my friends had a tag engine up but it was like in 2000, i think the link is deleted and not existing.

I suggest combining the enemy AI and the distance check to make random movement while still going away from the player. If that's possible, then make each Bomber an enemy only when the tag game is ongoing. Then when Link hits them they go to the sitting sprite.
