Title: Need some outside tests
Post by: Theforeshadower on March 27, 2009, 10:06:04 pm
Check attachments.

Basically, I know of some of the bugs already, but I would appreciate it if a few others could try it out.  Just name off some of the bugs/ post screenshots.

Also, no.  You cannot climb the ladder, chain, nor die.

Arrows move.  Z jumps.

Thanks again.

You get stuck on the wall when you jump at at, and you can 'climb' the wall by jumping from there.  :-\
Also when you jump and press one of the arrows Link animations look weird. Also, don't put any music in it or make us turn it off, it's annoying if you're testing.  ;)

I think the wall climbing glitch has to do with the jumping animation.
Before I added it, you could not get stuck in the wall.
Even though it is still a 16 x 16 sprite, it gets stuck.
Hmm.  Should I try throwing a bounding box just around the jumping sprite?
Since when Link is pointed up/down in his jump animation, the width of his sprite
is around maybe 12.  That's where the problem is coming from.

I have no idea, I've never worked with Game Maker  :)

You could turn off precise collision checking on the jumping sprites, that might work. You'll probably have to resize the bounding boxes still though.

Found the problem.

Since the wall and floor are the same objects, it is making the walls have the same effect as though you are landing.

Basically, I just have to make the walls a different object.

You do realise that won't work, unless you don't plan to have any platforming whatsoever.

I fixed the one glitch where if you are right next to the wall and try to jump, you'd get stuck in the corner.
The only thing that still is a problem besides the animation issue, is longer falls next to walls.
Not too hard to figure out, just haven't done it yet.

I added the sword.
X to swing it.

Nothing fancy.  I purposefully made it so that you stop when you swing it regardless of in the air or not.

Try to find something new.  Oh and I already know the sword is over Link's sprites.

I noticed just 3 things.
-You can still do a spiderman against the walls
-When standing next to the right wall while facing left (by doing a backwards jump) I can face right unless I first move left.
-If I stand next to the right wall (while first just walking towards it, facing right and not moving) I can't jump.
Title: Meh, making it a update on an engine without it being a WIP yet.

I changed the room.  I am setting it up for having different types of monsters in the room.
There is one goomba to the far left to can slice with the sword.
I added the boomerang(probably the only thing that works 100%).

To add the boomerang, just press the + key once AND ONLY ONCE OR YOU'D HAVE TO START TEH GAME OVER lol. Then you can press C to throw the boomerang.

Um, getting hit by the goomba and jumping whilst next to thew wall makes for a bizarre glitch.

The only reason I keep posting updates about this is I actually feel somewhat proud of myself for making something without using ONE !@#$% engine.  It is a personal reward knowing that even if it is not commercial quality, I still have done what you see by myself and not using/stealing/modding/referencing anyone's Zelda engines.

But, meh, whocares...it's the internet right?

lawl..enjoy!
