Anyone else as excited about this game as I am?
Some of you may already know, but the second trailer of the game was show at the Nintendo Media Summit.

Looks great. New versions of SMW's Athletic theme (also seen in Melee as Yoshi's Island) when riding Yoshi, various fruits to power Yoshi up for things (and make him an integral part of puzzle-solving), and other stuff.

So I'm sure there will be some incredible plot like Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach! Wait we already did that? Put him in space, also he wants to take over the galaxy now too. We already did that too!? Milk it for a sequel, I can't think of what to do after space right now!

Yes, they're milking Mario. But... this time there's Yoshi, there's more sidescrolling segments, there's more World Map goodness... Basically, they took all that was excellent about the first Galaxy and added more.

Also, there's a rumor of a Green Hill Galaxy. Not sure if it's true, but, honestly, I hope it isn't.

I don't think it is milking when it turns out to be a good game. I know a lot better milking examples.

I'm actually looking forward to what yoshi has to offer.

Also, whereas some other companies are milking their characters and stuff for all they're worth *coughactivisionandguitarherocough*, Nintendo keeps releasing new Mario platformers with new features and stuff instead of rehashing the old over and over again.

Yoshi should be quite fun to play with. He was in Sunshine.

Story wise they certainly have been re-hashing. And not trying very hard. :-*

And plus, Shiggy said he doesn't like story in his Mario games. The only reason SMG1 had such a deep story was because some other Nintendo exec or something snuck it in or something. The theme of all Mario games (especially the platformers) is fun. Like Zelda's is adventure. But you don't need a story for fun; I think this is a way to return to basic fun, instead of story and stuff. Which is probably why there isn't a hub world but a world map this time around...

It is. And yet when NP reviewed SMG1, the reason it got a 9.5 instead of 10 was the music... Hmm... I think the reason was "Not Mario enough."

I'm positive that didn't happen :P Things like that don't happen in a professional work environment. He probably allowed it for the sake of trying a new spin to the series.

Anyway; I'll probably get this just because my Wii is sitting collecting dust now.

Well maybe I worded it wrong, but the fact remains. There was a much deeper story in SMG1 because of Koizumi. Miyamoto didn't want such a deep story in SMG2, so there isn't.

Also, Miyamoto allowed it, and I'm guessing that it was just to shut Koizumi up about the story elements that he's been trying to sneak in since day 1.

Quote
“Mr. Koizumi is the type of person who, whenever we’re working on a new Mario game, he always wants to bring more story elements into it, as he did with Super Mario Galaxy. But in talking with him this time, he agrees and feels that with Galaxy 2, there won’t be a need for as deep of a story,” Miyamoto said.

But does he really agree with his boss, or has Koizumi just been overruled? In an interview with Wired.com in 2007, Koizumi said that he’s been trying to sneak bits of story into Mario and Zelda games for his entire career at Nintendo, even as Miyamoto has been trying to keep them out.
Quote
"I would sort of try to find sneaky ways to get [story elements] in without them noticing too much," Koizumi said of his early work. "These are aspects of the games that Miyamoto wasn’t nearly as fond of, and occasionally didn’t like."
Even they speak of it as "sneaking it in" so there. It happened almost exactly as I said it. Proof for the win!
