Different dimensions is a good gimmick :P
It's been overused though.

Do you really think a train is "relevant" to the zelda universe? It's a sales tactic. The game is "Spirit Tracks" and you ride a train. Has gimmick all over it.

Well i'm just guessing here, but I'm going to guess its called Spirit Tracks because of the train (and obviously the train tracks), not the other way around. And what do you mean "relevant"? If there is a train in the Zelda Universe, its relevant. There obviously is a train. We've seen it. So its relevant. There hadn't been a horse in a Zelda game until the 5th game in the series, so were horses relevant when they introduced Epona?

I don't dislike the train simply for being a train, but I suspect it's just there to travel between areas instead of having a real overworld.  That's not cool.

Yeah, thats kinda sucky. Looks like you're not going to have complete control of it, just decide which turnings it takes...

I can agree with this. Part of Zelda's charm was exploring the overworld and filling out your map (at least in LA and OoS/A).

I thought I did too, but if you look on the trailer all the tracks have already been drawn, and the one Link is riding looks selected.

Even if you can draw your own tracks. It won't do any good, if you can only shoot at enemies and cows, between the stops. And you can only get off the train at official train stations. Even PH still had treasure hunting, fishing and squid shooting.

You don't even know what Nintendo's got planned?

You make it sound like you've seen one trailer, you've seen everything.

You are right. I don't know what they have planned. And I never claimed I did. I can only speculate. That is why I hope for the best, but am prepared for the worst. Final judgement can only be made until I've played the game.

I like how developers that use the same old formula over and over again get criticized for not innovating, and yet developers that try to add new content to their games get bitched at because "BAAAW NOT RLY ENDLESSLY REHASHED GAME SERIES XXX, JUST A GIMMICK BAAW". Life or death, guys.

It's not about the innovation or the gimmicks, it's just that this train thing can make or break this game.

I have the feeling this game will be boring and uninteresting, but there is only one way to find out :3
