Title: [Completed] Loz: Hall of the Dead
Post by: imfletcher on April 22, 2007, 08:24:18 pm
The day has finally come, I'm finished my second, and probably last Zelda fan game. I've been working on this for well over a year, and am quite proud of it, unfortunately I probably don't have the time for such things anymore, so I decided to finish this up and go out with a bang.

Anyway, the game completely dwarfs my previous effort, Darkness Uprising, but seeing as I'm not strong at either coding or graphics, it's probably not up to the standard of some of the stuff in the WIP forum, yet again this is done, with an overworld, bosses, dungeons, and A LOT of stuff to find. I reckon it'll take a good player 3 or 4 hours to find everything (that's 100 pearls and 17 heart containers). Takes me about 2, and I know it like the back of my hand.

I'm aware of a few small glitches, but they're very rare, such as getting stuck in walls, and to me, unavoidable. Also, I know that sometimes an enemy will pin you against a wall and do some hefty damage, but again, it's a step up from the enemies that stand there and drain your life as seen in DU.

As you can tell, the goal here was not perfection, or to make an epic masterpiece. This was simply a practical step up from what I've done, and on that front I do believe it turned out well. Having said that, feel free to pm me with glitches and typos, I'm only one man, and though I've done a lot of beta testing, I likely missed a few things, and would love to one day release a fixed version 2.

So yeah, that's pretty much the end of the rant. Feel free to add this to your Zelda sites, or whatever sites you might have. Shop it around forums, I don't care. Though I'd prefer if I got credited (if not, I'm splashed over the end credits anyway).

It's good, and maybe one of my favourite fan games of all time, but gah, combat is stupid. Stupid Forest boss gets me in a corner and kills me every time.

That, and some of the solutions are really obtuse. I know we've already discussed this, but how the !@#$% was that meant to be a plant?

It's sad to see that an Real Completed Zelda Fangame gets less attention then an W.I.P Zelda Fangame...

I had to sneak-download it; when I'm ungrounded I will be sure to play it for real.

Grats on actually finishing a fangame...seems like it never happens >_>

Hey, someone's actually finished a LoZ fan game... But wait, you'd made Darkness Uprising, hadn't you? So it's not your only one.

Anyway, I can't play it now, as I'm in Texas and am not using my own computer. But when I return to New Hampshire, I will be sure to check this out, as it looks pretty good.

If only there were more like you, Imfletcher. Not ambitious, understanding of their own abilities and the ability to create a completed game through them. Very nice.

No one can blame you for having this as your last fan game, as you've made 2 already.

Congratulations. Even though I haven't already played it, but will soon, I already played your last game (I hope this one isn't as much hard :P) and already have a small idea of the game.
You are an example to the whole ZFGC for your hard work, dedication and for not giving up on it... :)
One more time, congratulations.
I'm gonna play it pretty soon, but I'm sure it's a good game.
I also hope this gets the attention it deserves...

I played it. It was great! A FINISHED fan-game!  :o That's an acomplishment. (hope I spelled that right...) There are just a few things I didn't like.
1. collisions. They were...not really precise.
2.Some graphics weren't really Lttp style.

Appart that, I'm stil impressed! Keep it up!

Well,someone ate their W.O.O.T.ies this morning.Congratulations,IMFletcher.By the way,was D.U. a TGF game
made years ago with custom sprites of Link and ReDeads and whatnot, using a midi of the Link's Awakening DX
Color Dungeon theme as the bgm, that was made and released at least 4 years ago?Or was that the
long-time-ago earlier demo of this game?

Postscript:In case you don't get the W.O.O.T.ies thing,here's a quote:
"W.O.O.T.ies,the official breakfast cereal of Ocarina of Time 2d!"

First I would like to say: it's a very nice Zelda fan game, good job!
And i found some weird behavior.. I tried playing this game on a stationary pc (game computer) and  had no problems
whatsoever, but when I tried playing it on my laptop i got some very weird behavior at first:
The weird thing is that after restarting this game 3 times, it got fixed...

Yeah and I also found 32 pears...and cant find any more  :(
Tho I know there is one more in the first dungeon...I just cant seem to get to it  :P
Oh well...

Yeah and BTW..theres 2 things:

1: that you already mentioned: when getting hit by an enemy, u can get locked...into a wall or another enemy..
Though that was really not that bad...i did die once from a stupid bird cause of that though..

2: I'm not really sure if I like the idea about having to go to that blue/red ball (don't remember his name)
each time you need bombs/arrows ..why exactly did you not make an inventory sub-screen?

Other than that I just have to say this game ROX (even tho it is quite hard)  XD
Congratz  :)

It's a bit of a throwback to Four Swords, that, and I found I could make a lot more puzzles if you had to use one to re-obtain the other.

Really nice game, but I can't seem to open the menu. I try ENTER but it just won't open. I have no idea what to do ingame, it seems I need stuff before I can go on but I've looked everywhere and I can't find anything. Anyone help?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found out what to do.

Very well done game, I'm still stuck at the forest boss. How many hits does it take!?

This was cool. The music was cool to hear since I've played just about every zelda game.
Though.. I walked around for a while, found I think 3 orbs and then I couldn't figure out what to do.. I went into a place that looked like a level, but I couldn't push the blocks or the statue..

Thanks for the list, it helps. I still get stuck sometimes, though.

Yeah.. Uh I couldn't open the menu and I couldn't use bombs. You would think I would have found them by now if I needed them so early on.

Those events are not necessarily in order. Though you can get them after you find five pearls. People have already posted numerous times where they are.

I'm just wondering, but would you be willing to make an open scource file?

I finally got around to playing this, it's very nice!
I got 97 pearls and finished the game without any help, I ran around every map looking for the last three pearls and couldn't find them, so I guess I guess have to look at that list you posted.

Also, does anything special happen when you find all the pearls?

You gain my respect.  :)

I've tried again, got as far as the second dungeon, decided to take a break, and the same glitch happened again.  It'll load just fine if I don't exit out of it, but if I start it up again and decide to load the file I saved, it just keeps saying something along the lines of "and the journey continues..."

Actually, I had the same problem. I was because there was a folder named "hotd" in the same folder the game was in, and the name of the save file is "hotd", so it couldn't save.

Congrats on completing a wicked game!

Honestly tho, you and I are the only two people I can think of in ZFGC history that have actually completed more than one game with gameplay longer than 10 minutes. XD

I beat the game a couple of days ago.

still need 9 pearls and four or so hearts.

The hardest part of the game for me was the second boss. It was just too unpredictable. I got around it by collecting 50 pearls before I went to the second part of the second dungeon. Then I beat the other dungeons and collected enough hearts to the second boss.

The bosses were ok. They were hardish until you found out how to easily dodge their attacks (bosses 3 didn't hit me once).

The ending was kinda predictable (the king of the hall of the dead was so easy)(hope I didn't spoil anything).

Anyway great job completing a fan game. It was very good for what it was.

There is a separate board for advertising called "advertising". ;P
Thank you.

Err, is that really advertising? You can take it either way if you think about it. He DID, afterall, make a blog about it. I don't see any forums or anything... it just looks like an appreciation to the game.

I asked Imfletcher a few days ago if i could talk about his game on my blog (it's in french)...
I don't earn money with that ! it was just to talk about Zelda fan-games  ;)

By the way I'm stuck in second dungeon with 42 pearls so far.
I Know i should bomb a wall but i need Bow to get to it... so i can't get to north part of dungeon...
Is there a way to get bombs AND bow at the same time ?

Stop Rent-A-Modding, this is your second warning. There are moderators for a reason.

I am going to lock this topic due to inactivity and to stop further gravedigs. The best way to get the game would be to contact Imfletcher himself.

Imfletcher: if you ever return and want this topic reopened, send the administration a message and we will gladly open it up for you.
