to alspal, no, they're not similar at all. Look at the difference in the amount of environmental detail (note NOT graphical detail...) in the dungeon shots:
The N64 can handle large amounts of 3d objects and lighting compared to this.
and Hoffy, if Limey thinks like me, this isn't about the graphics at all. The graphics look great, I love the style. But the amount of environmental detail is appalling, just look at those dungeon shots, it just looks like a few corridors put together with a block in the middle of one. Where's the atmosphere gone???
See the difference we get with 2D games?
Again, the GameCube can handle good amounts of 3d objects and lightning, so when using the WW style:
...it has atmosphere
I can further my point with more one example of good 2D games and not-so-good 3d games of the same series:
