Title: [WIP] Hyrule: Online
Post by: Broojo02 on July 10, 2008, 10:02:21 pm
(http://img33.picoodle.com/img/img33/4/7/5/f_Hyrule2Donlm_fa64c7c.png)

Note: I'm now using Eclipse because it has better support but may change my engine at any time.

Game Name: Hyrule Online

Features:
#Alttp style graphics
#Ocarina of time in 2D
#6 races of hyrule: Kokiri, Hylian, Zora, Goron, Sheikah and Gerudo

Description: Hyrule Online is an ORPG being developed that is set before Ocarina of Time but in the same hyrule. Things are are little different, the sheikahs are still thriving in kakariko village, the gerudos are more firendly to other races and the great war of hyrule is yet to begin.

You choose from 6 races of hyrule to play as, start off in a hidden section of the Lost Woods and undergo training where at the end you choose whether you wish to be a warrior, mage or archer. You will then appear in Hyrule field and the whole of Hyrule is your oyster.

There will be an organised structure of temples, just like other zelda games, specific for your level that contain hordes of enemies, NPCs with quests, puzzles a mini boss and a main boss. The max level in this game is 150.

Armour: Certain races have the same armour. I think I will put them in 3 groups of 2 or 2 groups of 3. it just depends how different the sprites are :P
Weapons: Each race has a weapon specific for them, I won't say now in case someone steals but I have it all in my head Mr. Tweedy :D
Shields: See armour above.

Looks pretty promising, though maybe you should have each Race start off in their respective area. Like Zora starts in Zora's Domain, Goron in Death Mountain, etc.

I would offer to be a spriter, but I have a few other projects I'm working on. I would be a tester though if you would like.

Good luck!

This looks a lot like an eclipse-esque mmo engine. Please tell me the combat is zelda-like and not just press ctrl to attack.
I wish the best of luck to you though. Creating and maintaining an mmo is extremely difficult.

This game looks incredibly amazing, reminds me of oracle of life...( I miss that game :'( )

Best of luck with this one mate 8)

I was going to think of 3 things when I opened this topic.

1. It's a game maker game made by someone who can't program
2. It's a game maker game made by someone who can program, but not online things
3. It's a player worlds/Konfuze/whatever prewritten crappy online game engine.

Turns out it's number 3. I'm sorry, but I don't think the gameplay of Playerworlds/whatever engine you're using fits the Zelda series, plus you're making it look like your programmed the engine yourself and not even stating that you're using Playerworlds/whatever.

Post by: Broojo02 on July 10, 2008, 11:17:49 pm
Pyro: Thanks :) yeah I was gonna do that but then I wanted the harder enemies to be in other areas of the game like gerudo valley and death mountain so I just stuck to hyrule field :P.

whitechapel: o shi- I can change the attack key if you want...Thanks for the good luck :)

cheesepie: Thanks, hope you enjoy it when it is released.

Reo: I was going to think of 3 things when I create this topic.

1. People would say it looks great and would like to play it (cheesepie).
2. People would say the mapping looks crap but good luck anyway.
3. The wise asses who themselves have played about with MMO makers would bash it immediately, branding it a generic "Playerworlds" (eugh) engine. Assuming that I have added nothing myself to the source.

So forgive me if the gameplay isn't slash and dodge but its an RPG as I said in the first sentance of the description. Its made in Elysium diamond 3.3.0 with various aspects of 3.3.1. I have seen people play much worse s*** than this made with the same engine but they still enjoy it

Review "Well, the idea of an "Online" Legend of Zelda is fascinating.
Hopefully, the use of the Elysium Diamond is successful, or Eclipse.  (I, myself, have attempted this, but failed. [Mainly the fact that I didn't know how to port forward at the time.])  Anyways, good luck on future mapping, so on."

Overall: "All in all- Good screenshots, tiles, like the idea of NOT using Game Maker. (Have my reasons on this).  When it comes out, you'll probably (Most likely) have me all over it. (If it's not canceled)"

Cool, thanks for the review :D I just managed to port forward yesterday  ;) I tested it on canyouseeme.org

This game has been in planning for years, it won't be cancelled but it will probably have its slow areas.

Yeah, I need more cute custom detail, there is a limit to my spriting prowess, I need people like King Mob to sprite for my game but they probably don't have the time.

And I would love to use that Hyrule City tileset thingy you created to put in my game but I doubt you will let me use it :(

Mmm, the graphics seem good enough for me. (Even the most lack of graphics, gameplay will always triumph, but, it could use a few better tilesets though. :|)

I hate the fact that you can only do "Small" sprites for Elysium Diamond, unless you want to use the Big Sprite sheets. :\

A totally confedant host/creator.
That's probably the reason why they all failed. :D (i think)

Good luck with this project I'm interested to see how it turns out. All I do have to say however is you need to work on the mapping, it's currently just too bland. What makes an ORPG (or any game really) is often the amount of interaction one has with its rather engaging environment so make sure you keep that in mind.

Ahruon: Well the thing I want to do with this game is not want to do too much, you know get out of my depth, my main priority is getting it online, I will have a lot of average maps that people can play on and then will I start adding the cool stuff. That is maybe what sets me apart from other Zelda Onliners, I don't set the bar too high at the beginning

DeathTailsz: Why thank you :)

Laigonoz: Yep, that and enthusiasm for wanting many people to enjoy this game, it isn't for myself, its for the Zelda fans who will probably enjoy playing it more than I.

Ahroun: At the moment its just me, I will be pulling in some real programmers soon to fix up the last final glitches in the game.

CrystalAngel04: I shall quote from my front page: "Please note these are  BETA screenshots that I crammed together in 10 seconds trying to use as many tiles as possible, they will not be in the final game". :D

Laigonaz: Shame about the gameplay being pretty average at the moment, meh it will get better.

Final note:
I NEED HELP IN: Custom graphics, MC style
                      Programming in visual basic
                      Possible hosting?

you finished nothing... a GUI is only finished in the last parts of the game development... just look at every single game which lasts longer then 2 updates... for example: AoDCs Oracle of Life had.. 10 GUIs i think

first show a welll planned world in your demo not just some tiles put together in a room

Easy there captain, I think you need to calm down, its just a simple fan game. Did I put on the front page: "OMG ITS LEIK THE BESTEST GAME EVA!!!!!!!110NE"

I just make a simple comment telling what I have recently done on the game and you have to bash me down, not that nice really mate.

Stop bitching, it's still a sloppy-ass RAD MMORPG tool, in the same league as Playerworlds. Looks a lot like a Playerworlds-based "clump" (Read: "clump", not "game"), too.

The bad thnign is that the game is in spanish :( because I'm mexican and my friend is too, and I have a forum for spanish speakers...
The thing id that I don't have enought sprites...
I'm using only four races   {Hyrulian-Kokiri-Goron-Zora}
And I need some help.... if some one wants to help me they'll be in the credits  XD

I can still see the reasons I left this forum. I pity the poor fools who scare away the newcomers by bashing them and bitching. A first-time attempt at a MMORPG is never perfect, especially in the very first build. Don't expect a Zelda that's up to par with Nintendo unless you want to lose the new guys. MinAlien, I'm sorry for griping, but you are just an ass. I thought you were supposed to have left this place, anyway. To the first guy who said the engine sucked, you could always make your own version, or help him out instead of blasting the dude for his "bad idea".

*sigh*
I have yet to see a single community game come from ZFGC anyway. I'll watch this place, but I'll operate from my own site, away from the assholes.

Yowza, a lot of posts  XD Nothing happened for like a week and then BAM

Minilinkki: Cool, when the game is released we will see what happens.
Minalien: I have no time for you
MetaKirby: Thanks!
Vaati: Yep, I will work on it. Maybe I will just have the hard enemies in the temples, because with 6 races all spawning in different areas they can't be surrounded by hard enemies, its gonna be hard to get a gradual move from easy to difficult.
Ahruon: Yep I think I have seen it and the videos on Youtube. Got a few pics of it in my hard drive.
Jeod: I have to say I was quite wary of posting my topic on this forums, so I built up quite a bit of info before posting my shizzle but still...
DeathTailsz: Yep, but its simple, I wanted to make the overall game window nice and small. I pretty much modded one of the buttons from PH and messed around with it.

Hello broojo,

First of all let me just say that i really don't have high hopes for this game. I apologize, it's just that it's hard to think many zelda fan games will ever be completed, never the less an MMO. You really shouldn't say OoT 2D since it really has nothing to do with OoT besides being set in the same timeline, you are almost leading people to believe it will be OoT 2D.

Have you completed any Zelda Fan Games beforehand? It isn't easy to make a Fan Game, especially an MMO. Never the less about my opinions on it, if i see any real progress on this project, i will be sure to keep an eye on it. Good luck, you will definitely need it.

Isn't Elysium Diamond a MO program that automaticly uses the Illusion of Gaia/Legend of Zelda overhead view and battle system?  Although, there won't be any "Scrolling" levels, like, big ones.  Only MMORPG that has attempted but, canceled is, AoDC, Wayne, and myself, only successful one, or use to be, was Graal, which Nintendo forced to change.

Hope this isn't any put-downer, but, I can't wait to see a demo.  If I do, I will run outside, go all the way to my school and back and start shouting "YESSSSS!" or in Japan, "HAIIII!" xD (No, not literly)

Fissure: Hey there :) Not that many people seem to think that I will finish this game :( . The thing is I could release it right now and edit it along the way. It has an online map editor, NPC editor etc so I can constantly add things. I plan to have a stable release with plenty of dungeons to keep people occupied. Sorry but I don't think that I actually mentioned on the front page that this was going to have the exact mapping as OOT, my bad XD. So yeah just so you know its gonna be mapped exactly like OOT, thats why I called it Hyrule Online, although there are many other hyrules.

I just need to enrypt the graphics first so people cannot copy all my graphics and instantly make an exact replica on the MMO using the same engine.

DeathTailsz: Yep it is, the hard stuff is done for me  :P Thats why I took on this task, because although it may sound like a big deal, the engine comes with so much that I can whip out an ORPG with absolutely no coding just using the built in editors (but I'm not gonna do that ;)).

When I release the first public beta I want you to make a youtube video of you doing that :P

Only MMORPG that has attempted but, canceled is, AoDC, Wayne, and myself, only successful one, or use to be, was GaiaOnline, which Nintendo forced to change.

Hope this isn't any put-downer, but, I can't wait to see a demo.  If I do, I will run outside, go all the way to my school and back and start shouting "YESSSSS!" or in Japan, "HAIIII!" xD (No, not literly)

Actually that was "Graal" Gaia is completely different.

Thanks for the correction.

I have added two new screenshots to show the new GUI, the old was too colourful. It features a start menu w00t!

Looks cool. o.o;

I thought you stopped making this. xD;

Well, comparing the two GUI, I prefer version 2, it looks waaay more proffesional than the first one.

Yep, Version 1 was a direct rip from the game "From the Abyss", Version 2 is an edited version.

#Topic updated#

Ok for the time being I am using Eclipse, its the first time I have used it and I'm using it because it has a very active community with plenty of code snippets and people to help you out as opposed to the Elysium community which hasn't really existed for a few years.

Anyway for the first time I am also using Alttp graphics rather than MC ones because of a good tileset I found on my forum. Its got a slight FSA style to it with the textured grass and all with those custom trees that were uploaded into the resources section of the site. Its a bit wierd because I haven't really fully played Alttp, only dabbled in the beginning. I am a bad Zelda fan.

Anyway It would be great if you guys and gals could suggest some better names for the game, hopefully not having the word Online in it would be great. Something cool like "Seeds of darkness" if you want you can suggest a small storyline if the title seems a bit random and needs some explaining.

So yeah I hope to have an open beta very soon, an opportunity for people to just try out the game and to suggest some thigs to add in.

'The Dark Triforce'
That was going to be my 3D twilight princess zelda, but you can use the name

Anyways, the screen looks WAY too plain. Add a HUD or something, even if it's temporary. It'll make it look much better.

Yeah the screen does look a bit plain, you can't see the GUI which surrounds the screen. I don't know If a HUD will work because it might get in the way of the screen because it is 2D and if your character walks under I'd you can't see yourself.
