The event currently going down at Leipzig is now officially more exciting than E3. Taking the ace out of its sleeve, Sony has just officially announced the PSP 3000 at their press conference. Speculate no more folks, here's the skinny.

According to David Reeves, the PSP 3000 will have its own built-in microphone, and has an enhanced LCD screen that will “increase intensity and the number of colours that can be displayed – and is easier to view in natural light."

*Update* We now also got word from the US Sony blogs that the PSP-3000 is also coming to North America as part of the Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters PSP Entertainment Pack bundle. They've also now announced a PSP 4GB Memory Entertainment Pack which includes a 4GB memstick PRO Duo.

The Entertainment Packs with the updated PSP-3000 will be retailed for the same standard price of US$ 199.99. And later on this year, Sony will be releasing the PSP-3000 Core Pack, which will also keep its regular price of US$ 169.99.

Seriously, the Slim hasn't even been out for a year yet.

Just release a PSP 2 already. Watch, I'll get a PSP 3000 model and then I'll find out they are releasing a 4000 model.

What the hell are they going to use the microphone for? Online play? Or are they just going to start using it in new software?

The new LCD screen is pretty cool. But, I don't even play my PSP much so even if I do find a game to play, I won't care what form of PSP I play it on.

They should just give the !@#$% up already. No-one cares about the PSP.

Apart from the Japanese who buy it like crazy. Huh. Damn you, Japan.

Oh well, the next step is clearly going to be the PSDS. The second screen, touchscreen, microphone and innovative features do nothing but OMIGOSH NEW SONY SHIZZLE MUST BUY.

wow, this seems like a huge !@#$% up. In 2 months they'll release the PSP4000, with an in built baby to take care of.

Didn't all SPs have back lit screens? But yeah, the GBMicro was a load of balls.They released it about the same times as the DS, but it only plays GBA games. So surely anyone would buy a DS so they could play DS and GBA games. I might buy a SP because I wanna play the old pokemons but I'm used to lit screens...

Wait, so what reason do I have to ditch my regular original PSP? It's like getting a DS Lite is just completely pointless if you already own a DS.

No, the SP had a frontlit screen. Around the release of the Micro Nintendo released GBASPs that had a backlit screen.

The new PSP will come with the latest version and probably will not be resettable to an earlier version. The Homebrew scene cares very little about downgraders now Pandora is out there, especially since the guy that was behind most if not all of them stopped (or was it a team of them? I can't remember).

Didn't sony leave some message for him/them in one of their versions? Heh, it was probably something along the lines of "We have your family/families. If you do not immediately cease and desist the releasing of downgraders, they will be returned to you in a box."

The homebrew scene is not the gamer scene. Considering home brewers (and the Japanese) are the only people using the console, and Sony a) aren't making any money off them and b) are trying to screw them over as hard as possible, the console has a bright future ahead of it. :P

Anyways, if you dont feel you need the new stuff this one has to offer, dont buy it then. Simple. No ones forcing you too, I mean its not like its completely different to the degree that only new games will work on it or something. This will be more for the people who haven't got a PSP yet but are considering getting one. I'm happy with my PSP Slim.

Its damn near identical to what Nintendo did with the Game Boy Advance, so why give a !@#$%? Or is it because its done by Sony?
