Hi Guys,

We've started up a new project over at http://oot2d.org/. The project is in the early stages of planning and development is yet to take place. If you would like to get involved, we will be hosting this project on GitHub and developing the project in Java using the LibGDX Framework to assist with distributing the project to multiple devices. Optimally we would like to make the project available on Android, iOS and Desktop, but Desktop devices will be the main focus for this project (but a version for an Android gaming console such as Ouya isn't too far outside of the vision).

We have only just started to obtain our web presence so the forum and website are lacking in information but we will hopefully have that sorted out sooner rather than later.

You can head over to the website for more information!

Thanks!

Sounds like you guys are still deciding on how to approach and handle things...all I can say is good luck.  Many have attempted a 2 dimensional Ocarina of Time Project, yet I don't think a single one has been completed.

Here are a couple of suggestions.

Don't Try to Follow the Original 1:1
-This tends to be the ultimate downfall of these sort of projects.  When you downgrade a game's dimension, there are many things that simply cannot be done in the same manner, such as the water Temple.  Feel free to take liberties to make it work in a manner that a 2D game should.

Make Hyrule Field Interesting
-The original was way too open and bland, and became a tedious job to run across, even with the faster backstepping.  Make the trips to the field not so stale; add some world detail and maybe some things to do out there.

Thank you very much for your input and advice.

Our major focus will be on the Engine and Map/Game editor which we will then be used to develop the 2D version and many other projects. We are hoping that, because the project wont rely on the ceation of the 2D version of OOT, that it will be easier to finally come to an end result as you are completely correct. The struggle for 1:1 is almost impossible. Instead, we we would like to aim for a similar gameplay feel. One of the other guys working on this said that when it finally comes to creating the OOT 2D version, we should replace the 3D aspects with the 2D equivilent, not try to replicate them.

And of course we see no issue in altering and improving on the original game (Hyrule field is a good example, as is the Water temple, almost impossible to replicate in 2D and still make it enjoyable I would say).

Thanks again for your advice and input. We know it is no small task but appreciate your encouragement.

Hi, this is your friendly neighborhood Star here.

Here's yet another reminder to not "rent-a-mod" and leave this up to us. We have it handled. Leave the DICK job to us.

Thanks,
Star and the rest of those guys

Fair enought that you should say that as well. We know that every other of the innumerable OOT2D projects have failed quite drastically, as may ours, but we are all going to give this our best shot and see how we go anyway. We don't think that we have anything we lose  :D

While we most likely wont be active participants in the ZFGC forms, we will be sure to post here again when we have some sort of concrete platform for you to view.
