Explanation of Zelda and Other CodingZelda Coding is for programming stuff related to Zelda. Other Coding is for anything program related beyond Zelda; which includes other game series as well as general coding questions such as questions about how Game Maker functions work and how to program stuff in languages like C++. The setup is very similar to what existed in the Invisionfree days. Discussion is for concepts about games that might get made, game design topics, and questions about what tools to use for development. Something like asking what Blitzmax is would go in Discussion, whereas topics involving actually attempts at doing things in Blitzmax would go in Other Coding.
For the Zelda Coding and Other Coding boards, there will be a topic which has a listing of engines and tutorials. Both of those boards will have the possibility of being locally moderated by someone willing to work on updating those lists, helping out with answering questions if possible, and also to provide a voice in the staff boards as to the state of the coding boards altogether. The GM Minish Cap Engine will eventually be integrated into the Zelda Coding board, and Niek will be a local moderator of the board if he still wants to be. The progress of the GM Minish Cap Engine takes some time due to external and internal factors and having it act as a supplement to the Zelda Coding board rather than outside of it should decrease pressure on it.
Additionally, we should be going through all old request topics and gather statistics on what members are asking about how to do. From this we'd make sure we had that stuff covered in terms of previously answered topics, tutorials, or engines - and if not we'd make efforts to accomplish that stuff. We don't want people asking the same stuff over and over and we should want the accumulated knowledge here to work for us rather than just hogging server space.
What Happens to Completed and ConceptsConcepts is being merged into Dicussion as mentioned in functionality above. The reason for this is that what gets posted in Concepts either dies a weak death or what has gotten posted there recently could have been posted in the Zelda WIP or Other WIP boards. Nobody really wants to hear wacky ideas from someone who hasn't made the efforts to actualize those ideas, or from a person like that who is asking for others to do the work for them. However, the Discussion board will still be there for people who want to post stuff like that.
The Completed board is also being removed. Why is this getting done? Well for the obvious reason that there are not that many projects which get completed and the discussion which occurs in topics for completed projects lasts about a month at best before the topic dies. We would rather have the development of projects occurring in the Zelda/Other Projects boards so that the work on the project can be shown rather than just the result. We will still allow for completed projects to be posted in the Zelda/Other Projects board. If and when any project is completed it will be moved to Sponsored for a month as well as being added to a list in a stickied topic so that a future visitor to the board can find the completed project.
