Other Projects / Far Away - A Symphonic Metal Original (WIP)
« on: February 24, 2010, 12:42:26 pm »
Hey guys.

Okay I know it's been like forever since I've really posted anything here, but I've upgraded my music software recently and have taken on a Symphonic JRock/Metal track :). Heavily inspired by Stream Of Passion, Symphony X, X Japan, Versailles and a bit of Dream Theater. This is going to be part of my solo album project which I intend to release commercially some time next year, however this is going to be a free download after release.

I have not completed much as of yet but I am willing to share with you guys what I have done so far.

Current version, intro basically complete, just need to touch up on adding more orchestration and acoustic guitar:

Previous version(scrapped):

Software used so far: Sonar 8.5 Producer, Garritan Personal Orchestra, Dimension Pro.

Feedback/criticism welcome :).

Audio / Golden Sun Forest's Requiem Remix
« on: June 03, 2009, 11:45:20 pm »
Hey guys, it's been awhile, it's been even longer since I posted anything here :P.

I recently upgraded my music software and a few days ago got a program called Dimension Pro. Here's the description found on the site:

"Dimension Pro is the critically-acclaimed synthesizer that combines real instruments with advanced synthesis, giving you endless sound possibilities."

I also got some expansion packs for it and discovered some neat orchestral instruments, I really wanted to make a Golden Sun track and I found one. Took me hours to learn by ear and get everything right but here's what I've been able to do so far, I feel it's incomplete but this is the first draft:

Comments and feedback would be nice, I think the overall sound quality is better than what I've done in the past ^_^.

Audio / Original Rpg Intro Screen Music
« on: February 12, 2009, 02:11:19 am »
I am slowly making my own RPG soundtrack for a game I wish to make. It's inspired by my imagination and not much else. So here is the intro music:
http://www.box.net/shared/xarufnv24a

It's short and cuts out at the end but that is only because the title screen music will then kick in. Can't think of a name for it though, and the game title, any ideas/suggestions?

EDIT: 2nd version with slight volume adjustments, Oboe solo thanks to Darklight and minor pan adjustments:

Also the midi file for those interested:

Audio / Experimental cave music
« on: January 11, 2009, 09:59:05 pm »
Well folks I tried making some RPG influenced "cave music" that might sound good enough to be in a game. I don't have the best instruments to work with but here goes:

What does you think?

Other Discussion / I fluked a Marge Simpson
« on: November 17, 2008, 11:43:29 am »
Well I recorded my voice and tried to sound like Marge Simpson, I fluked it and can't do it again. Thought I should share this with you guys :).

http://www.box.net/shared/1rp57q3kp7

I find it scary how a guy like me could do a voice like that, but it also amuses me.

Audio / A 'teaser' for my WIP original
« on: July 29, 2008, 04:13:53 am »
Well I am currently working on a new track, taking a break from remixing for awhile and trying something totally original.

It has no name yet and so far I've done the intro, 1:30 is a fair effort for an intro so prepare for a lengthy track overall ;). You can either download it here or listen to it on my new myspace solo project.

I'm not sure if it's got a slight hint of ambience but I am really having a lot of fun putting together this track, as this is the first time I've actually worked hard to make something actually 'work' I'm rather happy with the outcome. This is probably my heaviest song in history, and by far the best written. This may help with my vgremixes as I'm gaining better understanding on mixing and mastering.

In case you were wondering here is the Equipment Used:
- Amps: VOX Valvetronix AD30VT running into a Marshall MG Series 50DFX(it has bad tone with distortion and such, not a great amp but great speakers..I think I'm using this like a cab :P)
- Recording Device: Tapco LINK.usb audio interface
- Music software used: Cakewalk Music Creator 3, Audacity.
- rgc:audio sfz+ soundfont plugin
- Cygnus VSTi plugin (An excellent experimental set of ambient and spacey sounds, free plugin found here)
- Cakewalk Studio Instruments VSTi plugin: Bass guitar.
- Guitar: ESP Ltd Viper-50

Enjoy :).

Audio / My Lazy Orcestral Attempt
« on: July 24, 2008, 04:37:46 am »
Taking a break from looking into VGRemixes I thought I'd try something different. I have no idea how to create orchestral stuff but I gave it a shot anyways.

http://www.box.net/shared/ybw9nkmoso

I tried to look into the instruments music range, so hopefully it won't be too far-fetched. Any tips/suggestions?

I finally decided to try to draw, I found a tutorial and followed it as well as I could. Please note this is the first time I've properly drawn anime.

First here's the scan:

Now in colour:

Finally the shades (and slightly more detail):

"It's not over yet Kakarot!"

Any comments, suggestions?

Audio / Listing Possible Video Game Remixes
« on: July 02, 2008, 04:55:16 am »

My Video Game Remix Topic

I'm sure many of you have been playing games for many years, and many great tunes may have found their way into your liking, some memorable and for others...not-so memorable tunes. I am here to create, remake and compose(practically the same thing) my own versions of songs I have taken a liking to from various video game soundtracks(and you guys of course :P). This is an ongoing topic which I WILL be updating frequently, be sure to check in every so often to see how I am progressing. Is there a song you'd love to hear that isn't on the list? Request it, just a simple as that :).

I will be posting a list of possible video game tracks I would like to create my own versions of, of course I play guitar so that greatly influences the style and genre. There will be a lot of experimentation going on as I discover new sounds, feel free to give me feedback.

Here's the list so far in a somewhat non alphabetically but structured order:

Song Game(s) Progress OST
Song Of Storms The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time None Here
Temple Of Time The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time None Here
Beneath The Clock Tower The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask None Here
Tal Tal Mountain Range The Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening None Here
Ballad Of The Wind Fish The Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening Windfish Rock, rough temporary version Here
Tarm Ruins The Legend Of Zelda: Oracle Of Seasons None Here
Meka Dragon's Castle Wonderboy III: The Dragon's Trap None Here
Battle 3 Grandia None Here
Fight!! Ver 1 Grandia II None Here
Fight!! Ver 4: Last Battle Grandia II None Here
Golden Sun Battle Themes Golden Sun & Golden Sun: The Lost Age None First Theme
Golden Sun World Map Themes Golden Sun & Golden Sun: The Lost Age None Final World Map Theme
Still More Fighting Final Fantasy VII None Here
Don't Be Afraid Final Fantasy VIII None Here

Here's the requests list(links to OST):
All requests are accepted, please note I may most likely not have time to do all these, but I will try my best.

I know I'm not the best at these, but I feel it will help me to develop musically, so feel free to give me feedback, mixing/mastering tips and such etc.

Enjoy :).

Audio / Guitar Playing
« on: June 27, 2008, 08:10:05 am »
Hey guys, I had issues with playback latency, the best I could get was about 60ms. Then I downloaded asio4all, which at first I had no idea how to use and it screwed up my music software's playback and set it at a fixed rate of over 90ms >:(. Then to my accidental discovery I figured out how to use this program...muchly impressed as I could get latency as low as 2.2ms with no loss or crackles in the sound (but I set it to 2.7 just to be safe).

Anyways I've had the demo of Native Instrument's Guitar Rig 3, a virtual guitar amp/cab sim and I was frustrated with the playback latency, whatever I played...the delay was sure to be far too noticable. But now it's in near perfect sync with my playing. I decided to you you guys some of the different tones and effects this wonderful software can bring. I might perhaps record a full song with this software, please enjoy my attempt at playing parts of songs which half you would know :P.

Here's what I played parts of:

- Song Of Storms
- Temple Of Time Improv
- Zelda Theme'ish
- The Raising Fighting Spirit (Naruto)
- FFVII Still More Fighting...2 bars? O.o
- Heart Of Darkness pre-solo (Arch Enemy)
- Divine Wings Of Tragedy (Symphony X)
- Guitar Improv 1
- Guitar Improv 2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGr0f40FufU

The audio is slightly out of sync, the sound is good because I recorded this on the computer while I recorded on my camera, took @#$! ages to cut out the bits I needed and applying the recorded audio to the video, but I'm happy with the final process.

Discussion / Newbie Game Making/Newbie-styled Games
« on: January 07, 2008, 02:55:36 am »
Hey folks, have you ever tried making a newbie game cause you were bored? Or you were a newbie trying to make a game?

I thought I would post a screenshot of something I messed around with cause I got bored, a simple action game with lame graphics and gameplay:

Please keep in mind that I can actually make good games, I just can't be bothered :P, so if I feel like messing around I'll do something like that. I lack the motivation and commitment to produce the RPG I've always wanted to make.

It would be interesting to see screenshots of your newbie games, so feel free XD.

Audio / My Theme Song o.O?
« on: December 31, 2007, 12:19:57 am »
I thought I might as well post up a guitar track I just recorded. I've been playing for 3 years now, just wondering what you guys think of this "theme song" I did. Well it's not really a theme song, just in advance if you don't like the sounds of rock/metal then this may not be for you, but anywho here it is:
http://www.box.net/shared/923dcgvkss

Feedback is more than welcome :).

Any ideas on how I can improve this?

Audio / Wild Arms and Grandia (WIP)
« on: December 12, 2007, 06:49:49 am »
Well I signed up to OCReMix.org the other week after hearing several of their high-quality video game remixes. I decided I'd give it a shot myself :). I've only done less than a minute for each just to see where I'm heading this early, it'll be easier for me to get feedback and improve it from the beginning so the final product will be much better ;).

The first one is Battle 3 from Grandia; the original can be heard here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BOw6QPt1-g
And my attempt (thanks for recommending box.net blue_chu_jelly):
http://www.box.net/shared/tmraxvg5tk

And Boomerang Flash from Wild Arms; original can be heard here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAMtuuKof-Y
My attempt:
http://www.box.net/shared/vcdfj4kgx7

In my opinion the Wild Arms track is better only because I spent the most time working on it :).

Audio / An enchanted forest sounding original
« on: December 08, 2007, 10:43:39 am »
Well I came up with this tune over about 2-3 hours, I ran out of ideas and I'm looking for some feedback :). It sounds like it comes from some RPG, not entirely sure if I've got the right sound yet. Perhaps I need a decent host but this will have to do for now: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=40CPG1QF

I probably should be learning music theory, I seem to everything at random and by ear :P.

Audio / [WIP] Experimental Instrumental
« on: November 16, 2007, 09:25:13 am »
Hey guys, it has been a LONG time since I have last posted anything here, I thought I might as well come back to this place and show you people my wip instrumental. So far it's very rough, slightly progressive and very experimental. I have yet to record some bass riffs and the 2nd guitar. So here is my song so far:

http://home.thirdage.com/Computing/hyperknight32/Experimental1.mp3 (I really need a better host :P)

It varies a lot in style, I think it gets heavier throughout the entire song, I might perhaps add midi tracks at the end of this all, with the support of VST of course :P.

Feedback would be appreciated :), I never seem to follow steps with song making and I make everything up as I go, let me know what you guys think =D.

I know I don't really post here on zfgc anymore but I still want to be here somehow, anyways I haven't drawn in ages and I've tried picking it up again. Please let me know what you think and vote in the poll :).

I didn't have a scanner and I got lazy with this one, I edited this picture with a photoshop rip off called ArcSoft PhotoStudio 2000, the background is from RM2k3, quite shocking I know :P but I have no real knowledge in drawing whatsoever and got no idea on shading, and I can't draw backgrounds, oh well. Here is what I call Good Evening Quiet One:

(note this one isn't for voting cause it's not entirely original)
