VG247 has learned that Microsoft has now detailed Xbox 720 to certain partners and has internally confirmed the machine for a Christmas 2013 release.
The next generation Xbox will have a Blu-ray drive, contrary to a recent report.
Multiple sources have confirmed this morning that the machine will have two GPUs. One said: “It’s like two PCs taped together.”
We’re waiting for final confirmation of specs, but the graphics cards are thought to be equivalent to AMD’s 7000 series GPUs, but “not CrossFire or SLI”. The GPUs aren’t structured as they are in a normal dual PC set-up, in which the two chips take it in turns to draw lines of the same object: Xbox 720′s graphics units will be able to work independently, drawing separate items simultaneously.
It was reported last week that PlayStation 4, internally codenamed Orbis, will also be powered by AMD hardware.
There will be “four or six” cores to the Xbox 720 CPU, one of which will be reserved for Kinect and one for the OS.
Xbox 720 will require an always-on internet connection as an anti-piracy measure.
We’ve also been told that the next generation of Kinect will be built into the device as standard.
The details have emerged in the wake of a hastily removed tweet from Sean Tracy, a technical designer for Crytek, that said he was attending the “Durango summit” in London at the end of February. Durango is though to be the codename for the console.
Microsoft is not expected to announce anything pertaining to its next machine until next year.
Many developers have been posting job openings for “next-gen” and “future-gen” systems for months.

What in your opinion is the best game in the Kain series? They're all excellent games, but which one was your favorite?
SR2 had the best plot twists, so SR2 for me. (honorable mention goes to Defiance for also being awesome)

The point has been raised by many members of the industry that used game sales are hurting developers and publishers even more lately, when they're already beleaguered by rising piracy rates and a struggling economy. Atari executives recently commented that used game sales are "extremely painful," while GameStop's CEO unsurprisingly came out in support of resales. We've recently discussed a few of the ways game designers are considering to limit used game sales. David Braben, chairman of UK-based developer Frontier Development had this to say: "Five years ago, a great game would have sold for a longer period of time than for a bad game — which was essentially our incentive to make great games. But no longer. Now publishers and developers just see revenue the initial few weeks regardless of the game's quality and then gamers start buying used copies which generates money that goes into GameStop's pocket, nobody else's."

FRESNO, Calif. — A stranger broke into a home east of Fresno, rubbed spices on the body of one of two men as they slept and used an 8-inch sausage to whack the other man in the face and head before he fled, Fresno County sheriff's deputies said Saturday.
Lt. Ian Burrimond said a suspect was found in a nearby field and taken into custody. Deputies, he said, had no problem linking a suspect to the crime: "It seems the guy ran out of the house wearing only a T-shirt, boxer shorts and socks, leaving behind his wallet with his ID."
Arrested was a 22-year-old Fresno resident.
The spices and the sausage, Burrimond said, were taken from the victims' kitchen.
He said money that had been taken was recovered, but the sausage was discarded and eaten by a dog. "That's right, the dog ate the weapon," Burrimond said

A US court has ordered Sony to pay USD 18.5 million in compensation to Agere Systems after being found guilty of wilfully violating copyrighted technology on a number of devices.
The jury found that the mylo personal communicator, the PlayStation Portable and the Network Walkman audio players were making use of Agere's patented "wireless local area network apparatus", according to PSP Fanboy.
While the jury ruled in favour of Agere, it is unclear whether this was the total amount the company had been hoping for, as its original claims demanded compensation not just the profits lost due to Sony's patent infringement but also for damages amounting to three times the lost profits.

Britain in 2005 changed the law protecting anonymous sperm donors and allowed children to learn the identity of donor fathers — one reason, fertility experts say, there are fewer donors now.
“The only countries that seem to have enough sperm are those that pay — like the U.S. and Spain — or the countries that retain anonymity,†said Allan Pacey, a member of the British Fertility Society that warned of the shortage in the British Medical Journal.
