Well we have three good ones, but it's really hard to decide so I'll throw up a vote.

1) Moldorma

2) Xiphirx (Edit by Minalien)

3) Yubel

Voting ends October 20th.

A new viral marketing campaign for "Saw V" is scaring the wits out of some of its unsuspecting targets, according to OPP.

A website for the fifth film in the series of psychological horrors allows visitors to enter their name and a friend's in order to generate a creepy message that can be dialled to any home number.

The main characters in the films become involved in deadly games of chance. The phone messages play directly on that theme.

"Hello, (name). Do you want to play a game? You think it's over but the games have just begun. I'm here with your friend (friend's name). My work will continue in a way you never saw coming. You won't believe how it ends. Let the game begin," the automated message recites in a low grizzled voice.

These calls have genuinely frightened a number of citizens, including the mother of an intended target who called OPP to complain. Since Thanksgiving weekend, said Const. Tracey Bednarczyk, the Nottawasga detachment has received at least six calls from concerned citizens about the alarming messages.

But what the marketers are doing is not illegal, Bednarczyk said, which makes the cases harder to investigate. "There are no threats made, so it's more of a nuisance phone call, but obviously if they continue they could be harassing in nature, she said.

A disclaimer on the website reads, "The site is provided to give our users an interesting and fun forum in which they entertain their family, friends or colleagues... Please use your best judgment and be respectful of other individuals."

Bednarczyk said the OPP is alerting the public to the source of the calls but, "there's nothing criminal in the message."

"It's obviously a good promotional tactic," she added. "It's got everyone's attention."

The part about the old woman almost getting a heart attack wasn't in here but I just seen it on the news.

OH FISSURE YOU DOG YOU.

Graphics Requests/Archive / [SOLVED] ZFGC Midnight Theme Banner
« on: October 17, 2008, 05:18:29 pm »
As I'm not really that great at graphics design, I'd like to request someone to make a banner for the Midnight theme.

The "Zelda Fan Game Central" I couldn't get right in terms of color plus I wanted to go with something different. The old banner from the midnight theme is kind of screwy and Infini wants something new.

So could someone come up with a new banner?

422x102 preferably.

As for payment? No idea. I could give you rupees but they aren't much use here. Though your name will of course go under the credits for the theme.

Thanks a lot.

Entertainment / XFD PSP 3000 SCREEN SUCKS !@#$%
« on: October 17, 2008, 03:13:16 am »
Quote from: Exophase.com
A number of users over at the official PlayStation forums are reporting that the LCD screen found in PSP-3000 units has poor de-interlacing quality, resulting in a somewhat noticeable reduction of image quality in fast-moving sequences displayed on-screen.

Forum user Prothean supplied a video clip that shows the aforementioned issue in action. As you can see, scanlines are visible when moving between icons in the XMB. The same effect is nowhere to be seen on the PSP-2000 unit, which is compared to a 3000 model side-by-side in the video.

Another user, Jasoncps, likened the interlacing artifacts to the picture shown below, which is riddled with faded scanlines. He further noted that the issue was most prevalent with dark objects on light colored background.

Entertainment / So no new Team Fortress 2 updates till next year.

Yup, Valve are not planning on releasing any new class update for Team Fortress 2 this year, marketing VP Doug Lombardi has informed Shacknews.

Well, it won't be this year," said Lombardi when asked about the next update. "But we're going to keep evolving TF2. Once Left 4 Dead wraps, you'll hear us clamoring more about [Team Fortress 2].

Lombardi partially attributed the prolonged wait to the impending release of Left 4 Dead, which saw contributions from numerous Team Fortress 2 team members as development of Left 4 Dead entered the final stages.

Oh well, I'm sure Left 4 Dead gonna keep us busy for a long long time.

Lame.

Entertainment / PSP 5.0 Firmware Released.

Firmware 5.0 for the Sony PlayStation Portable is now out and available for downloading. Thanks to all the readers who told us about it. The big thing in FW 5.0 is the addition of direct access to the PlayStation Store.

Also new in this update are a full-size on-screen keyboard, a sleep timer that users can enable during music playback, and the ability to use the PSP Slim's video out feature to display PSOne titles at full screen resolution depending on the TV the Slim is connected to.

QJ.NET reader AshTR also clued us in on the following additions included in the changelog:

    * The system will automatically change to USB mode when a USB cable is connected.
    * The [Original] theme has been redesigned.

Awesome as !@#$%.

The Playstation store which apparently will eventually be selling all PSP games as downloads apparently in 2009 (just a rumor) plus PSone games and all that crap.

The automatic change to USB mode when the cable connected is awesome, no more going to that annoying option all the time. Hopefully this means we can browse the XMB while connected to USB.

The theme redesign looks awesome, I seen a picture of it somewhere.

Now just to wait for 5.00 M33. Dark_Alex has already released a dumper for it and is currently working on putting custom firmware on the PSP-3000 as it has a hackable Mobo apparently.

Hawt.

Edit: PSN Store in action.

« on: October 08, 2008, 01:43:33 pm »
I actually watched some of the debate last night off and on and I must say, McCain is a dumb son of a !@#$%.

He just goes on and on like a complete idiot and he tries pulling out jokes (whether it's intentional or not, I don't know) which were completely stupid, hell no one even cracked a smirk.

All he does it basically just tries to take shots at cakefarts, while barely addressing any issues at all, but when cakefarts is up there, he actually addresses situations and takes the odd shot at McCain's stupidity while McCain is sitting in the background grinning like a jackass.

God damn, I wish I were American just so I can vote for cakefarts <3 That sly fox.

Other Discussion / So I just got the lamest virus.
« on: October 08, 2008, 01:37:16 pm »
Last night I got some nasty virus that kept installing crap and making crap pop up every like 10 seconds :(

Even worse, it removed 'C:\' from 'My Computer' (had to access it by typing C: in the address bar) and removed 'All Programs' and 'Control Panel' and such from the start menu.

The worst part? Not only did it delete most of my icons, but it kept putting this one icon with a girl licking a guy's ass or something called "Gay Fetish Porn". It made me sad, real sad.

Anyways, with that, I reformatted and reinstalled and my god, I forgot how good a reformat is <3

Hey people, I am not dead nor is the project but I was wondering if anyone would like to help me make this game through coding?

I need help with JavaScript and have most 3D models, textures, objects and so on done.

Help with coding will advance this game far beyond what it is now, anyone willing to help?
And if you need screenshots just look at the previous pages on this thread.

I WILL update more screen shots but I have been doing other things as well and it takes time to do it :P
Mostly its the coding holding me back.

Got an idea for a Big Question? PM 4Sword or Zidane!

Featured Project (FP2)

This week Zidane wandered into tall grass and encountered Pokemon Blue SDL by 4Sword.

Your project seemed to be the first Pokemon project in recent times on ZFGC, are you happy about that?

Yeah, while I like the Zelda fan games that are here, seeing a lot of them diminishes their overall appeal through monotony.  Most if not all of us played Pokemon when we were younger and even some of us even still, so making a project about it and seeing others do the same is encouraging.

Why make the graphics the Game Boy equivalents when you could make them more modern?

I prefer the Game Boy graphics as I do not have to worry about doing complicated things with the graphics in my game.  Excluding backgrounds, most if not all images are either 8x8 or 16x16 pixel squares.  This makes resource management and collision surfaces easier to implement.

What do you think is going to be the most difficult thing to implement though as you progress forward?

Definately the battle system.  There are equations and everything to figure out, you have to program all the possible moves, handle leveling up, etc.  It's just a lot to think about.  Another user here named dabridge has a good start on that in his Pokemon game, Pokemon: Last Hidden, which is in the WIP section also.

You originally had your project in Game Maker.  What made you move away from that?

While it was good and others did not seem to have a problem with it, I became a little fed up with its limitations that were the result of sacrificing power for simplicity.  I probably would not have thought this way had I had Game Maker registered, but even doing that seems to be difficult.

Then why C++?

C++ is something that I am learning more about in school and game programming allows me to take what I learn and give it application.

But isn't making a project in C++ difficult and complicated?

To be completely honest, parts of it leave me dumbfounded, but then again starting with something that is not well understood would leave anyone that way.  Because Game Maker was giving me frustrations, I finally had an excuse to move away from it and even I lose some of my results capability, I feel better in that my project is deemed by others to be complicated.

So how can others start their games in C++?

I highly suggest that anyone interested look up the Lazy Foo SDL tutorials for C++ game programming.  They really helped me get the fundamentals.

You've stated elsewhere that you like to be a neat freak in regard to emulating features from the original, but why does this matter to you?

I came into game development by thinking that I could bolster my programming ability through it, so emulation of features of an original game tests my programming ability in that I have to get it just right.  In essence, unless my code is good, my attempts at emulating the orignal will be bad.

What's the next thing you plan on adding then?

Ah, well since I am restarting it in C++, right now all I am hoping to add is all of what I had previously in my Game Maker project.  Then I will move on.

So, you've been featured in the other sections of the Weekly, written for the Weekly, and now you are featured by the Weekly.  You seem to be everywhere, are you fine with that?

Ha, well while I am not technically everywhere, I am in a lot of places.  I was hesitant to be featured though in the Weekly because I like to be humble about what I am working on and others deserve more attention.  However, being everywhere isn't so bad - I like to think that I rubbed off on a few users here and that perhaps whatever intelligence I have is passed off in their words.

Know a project you think should be featured? PM 4Sword or Zidane!

Interesting though to note that Soulja Boy says he wanted to be a flash animator and is interested in getting in the game industry. Hey, why not?!
