How the hell do you read full-length .pdf books?

It's bloody impossible. They hurt your eyes, but have like 400 pages so you can't just print them off. Why is this? It needs fixing.

Am I right?

I find it somewhat easy, actually. Especially if you have one of those touch-screen laptops, you can hold it as if you're holding a book, and you've got no more reason to worry about lighting.

Ahh, a touch screen laptop would solve the problem perfectly. Looking straight at a desktop screen just feels...straining for some reason.

Unfortunately I only have a desktop PC and, while I could get a laptop, and I do have £500 to play with, I have this thing about spending money...I don't like to do it XD

I have a desktop PC with a flat-screen LCD monitor. I have a program that actually lets me rotate my screen, so I can just grab my wheeled mouse by my side and hold my monitor in a sort of large book fashion. It works pretty well for me.

I dunno, I have a tablet pc and reading large amounts of text is still just as hard on my eyes.  I'd suggest getting an ebook with an electronic-ink screen, (like the Kindle).  Reading the screen on one of those things is exactly like reading it off paper, (almost anyway, it doesn't strain your eyes and has most of the same visual properties as actual paper).

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Video-Tweak/iRotate.shtml is a free one, but it's not what I use. What I use came with the driver software for my video card.

Actually, it seems mine came with that something like that too :) Go Radeon x550...god my card sucks...

I read mine in Microsoft Reader. It uses a proprietary format, but it still works well for reading. There's a bookmark function, pages, pictures (sometimes), and you could highlight text and copy. Much more, too, I just can't remember.

I discovered turning my brightness right down helps. Also my monitor seems to give out heat that causes me to fear for my privates, so the turning it sideways thing is rather uncomfortable. At worst, it makes my legs sweat.

I save it as a text file and transfer it to my DS for reading with DSReader, using Arial font with white text on black background.  It works.

If it has pictures, I use Paperless Printer to print to a series of JPEGs, turn them into Comic Book DS format, and read them on the DS.  It works.
