I'm really rather terrible at coming up with names for characters in stories. Does anyone have any tips or genral method they follow in coming up with names for people? And if anyone's good at picking out names, right now I'm just hung up on trying to name this one average white guy in my story. I don't want his name to be anything really common like John or Michael, but something that's not too strange and that most people have heard before...

I'll go with Nate. that seems a bit more befitting, thanks.

Someone from another small forum I go to says he's making a character naming FAQ, but I haven't heard from it at all, plus I don't exactly like or trust this guy, so if anyone else has anything like that, please let me know.
