Umm... isn't hash a drug? o_O
EDIT: I figured it out! It's a multi-billion dollar drug smuggling operation!
That's "hashish".
can anyone explain what a hash algorithim is in laymen's terms?
It (hash) is a string of characters computed (by an algorithm) from another string of characters, the only difference is that the hash is of a static length, while the original string can be of any size.
Original string could be the contents of a file, a password or just about anything that is string of bits (or characters) with any length.
The original string hashed (the "hash") could be something like "A7BF3C" (though, usually longer)
An algorithm is a way to compute the hash. Some algorithm (function) is better for one purpose and another is good for another purpose.
The hash can then be used for many things. It could be used for error correction. E.g. a hash of a file could be transfered with the file and at the other end the other computer can hash the received file with the same algorithm, if that newly computed hash match with the recieved hash, the files are also (except in rare cases) identical (and have been sent correctly).
Sorry, I just noticed my explaination wasn't that good afterall
At least, it is NOT a drug <.<
Well, I'm worried since I went to that site, not knoing what it is at all, I'm gonna get a virus on my computer. Anyome else worried?
Honestly, the least worst that can happen is that YOU get a virus (if you are really worried make a backup of your data
)... I mean, what if all those servers on that list have security holes (that the author of that site has found to be in all servers in the world, except his owns it looks like, and now are looking for victims by referers), at that date he could execute a program that attacks all those servers... (not what I really think personally, though)
