How to REALLY Play DOOM
« on: March 19, 2007, 08:29:07 pm »
Every once in while you start up the original DOOM, you know, the ol' DOS version of DOOM. Or Doom95. Your preference. But..I have discovered something beautiful.

Here is the original DOOM. We've all seen it.

Now, with the amazing powers of the Doomsday engine, you can make it look good! Using the exact same sprites and textures, it allows you to use advanced graphical techniques in an old game. No more low resolutions! No more blocky textures! You can also filter sounds. The original DOOM engine plays sounds back to you at very low quality. With the Doomsday engine, you can use 16-bit sound with 44kHz, and even utilize surround sound systems. This is running at a resolution of 1024x768, with settings cranked up to all high. I also wanted to take a lowest-settings screenshot, but even then, it blows the original DOOM out of the water.

So freakin' awesome!
