The Untold Legacy

We just recently launched on Kickstarter with our first trailer and we would really appreciate ZFGC's support. Ive frequented this site for awhile and shared my various projects over the years from the rather humble beginnings to some of my more polished work. I even shared my very first Zelda-inspired game when I got my first start as a game developer. Its really interesting to see how far my team and I have come.

    INSPIRATION
    The game draws inspiration from many popular titles, ranging back to the classics of the 80’s, up until the console behemoths and indie titles of the present. One of which will draw the most obvious of comparisons is the action-adventure defining series, The Legend of Zelda. As massive Zelda enthusiasts ourselves, it has been a major influence for this game and will no doubt be a treat for long time fans of the series and newcomers alike.

    Although this game has some obvious influences, it is not a clone or cookie cutter project - at every turn we are injecting our own flavor and unique ideas. From the story, combat, items and puzzles we are finding ways to expand and enhance old ideas, as well as insert completely new concepts to create a unique experience for today’s players.

    Note: Some people have experienced problems in browsers such as safari, im not sure whats causing this, but I have heard it is a problem with how safari loads flash. I am trying to fix this so if you want to play the game try and play it on a pc with firefox or explorer until I resolve it. If the game lags you may need to change the quality or toggle sounds. You can do this from the game screen.

    Genesis Part I

    Its been seven years since Damien has lost his wife at the hands of an unknown man wearing a gray hoody. While living every day racked with guilt he spends every second of his life completely devoted to Project Genesis. Its the only thing that he believes that will make his life worth living and give him the chance he needs to finally give something back to the world. He also believes that it may be the only thing that will help him move on with his life and stop living in grief.

    Genesis was put together by altering existing virus's with the hope to increase certain peoples strength, speed and reaction time. Something that he believes if it had been around when his wife was taken from him that she could have been saved.

    The virus has now entered its final stage of development and requires human testing. Of course feeling its his responsibility and only right, Damien reluctantly volunteers for the project. Little does he know that once the virus enters his veins it will change his life forever, and give him the chance to finally change everything. Whether if it is for the better or worse.

    Here is my latest game.
    http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/517494
    Its called doodle warrior and was inspired by Zelda. Although the story is very original and I think worth a play. The game was completely developed by me, but all music, sounds and sound effects were created by a man named Nathan Pinard.

    *Author Comments*
    This was originally a project I started a couple of years back and never completed. The game was definitely inspired (artistically) by the Legend Of Zelda series. What I wanted to do here is create an adventure game from a side scroller/platform view, and I think I did a very good job. The game has its flaws but I think that is due to the flash player you are using or maybe even the computer. I have had reports of errors with collisions, but I have never encountered any myself and promise you that I have played this game more times then I can count. (testing) So if you encounter any problems you may need to download the newest version of flash player. Everyone please vote fairly and leave some constructive criticism. None of that "this game sucks omg 0000!!!" Please recommend for the adventure collection. This game also has an interesting learning curve worth taking a look at.

    Bring legends to life as you battle your way to the secrets of the ancient artifacts!
    There are two dungeons, three bosses and countless puzzles in this game. Also some very interesting enemies. If your not an adventure game fan this may not be for you. But its definitely worth the play and your vote.

    I just recently finished my latest game Modern Day Assassin about 2 months ago and I finally got it released. It can be viewed here. http://www.a10.com/game/Modern-Day-Assassin.html

    After I finished that game I immediately began work on a new one and for the moment I shall call it doodle warrior. I basically came up with the idea while drawing out sketches in my notepad ("hints the name") but I plan to rename this because the art style and gameplay do not fit it. Alright and here is a little bit about the story.

    Controls
    Movement- Keys
    A- Jump
    S- Swings sword
    D- Talk
    Space- Inventory
    Enter Doors- Up

    STORY
    The day begins like any other day as Sketch (the protagonist) awakens in his humble abode and wonders out of his house, and finds out his grandfather (the scholar ) is in need of his assistance at the look Scholars Tower. Sketch then makes his way to the tower to find out that his grandfather has just completed his work on a new book. (little does he know of its importance yet). All he knows is that his grandfather has requested that he deliver the book to the king immediately. Once he delivers the book it is stolen by an evil emperor and thats where the journey begins. You must basically go to the Emperors lair and retrieve the book.

    The game will be filled with puzzles and a lot of various enemies.

    Sorry I am not to good at writing these things but the game is about 40% complete and needs alot of polish.

    *Update*
    I have added a newer version. It has some really cool stuff worth checking out.

     So here is my idea. I want to develop a game with an engaging story and I have several ideas but not sure how I should start this off.. The game has many ways it can go and I feel that I must be careful choosing how the first story begins.

    Story Idea's-
    1. You are captured and experimented on in a facility. Once injected with the experimental hazard serum you become aware that you have developed an ability as a side effect. Then in all the confusion of other inmates also getting abilities you manage to get out of your cell. You then team up with 2 other characters and must make your way out of the building.
    Characters
    1. Damian- Can Stop Time
    2. Tyler- Can use his own energy to create matter
    3. Courtney- Can create and manipulate electricity

    Story 2-
    2. The game is set 20 years after the Hazard serum being injected into the patients at the facility and the world is a very different place. Not everyone developed powers from there injection. Some people developed an extremely lethal virus that killed more then 75% of the worlds population. Play as Damian and make your way through the ruined town to a enemy research facility. Then get a time belt and travel 20 years back to prevent everything from ever happening.
    Game play will be a little more like a shooter at first. But im drawing blanks after he goes back in time.

    If anyone has any idea's or would like to help just please respond here.

    Break Out 2
    This game is basically the sequel to the very first game I ever created/finished. It has been a project that I have been looking forward to making sense the first games release, but due to the first game not being very popular I wasnt sure if I would ever make a second. But I have learned a lot since my first game and it is now time to make the sequel. It will be upraded in about every aspect of the game. It should be alot more entertaining this time around and the game play will be more engaging.

    Story
    Basically the game starts right where you left off in the first one. You have just escaped the asylum and find yourself in a rundown garage that is now your safe house. Your Uncle Johnny tells you that you had been framed and your memory was taken from you do to the torch er/tests they did to you while you were held captive. You then learn of the company and how they formulated the plan to take you out because you had learned of there existence, and were hell bent on exposing them. Then Johnny hands you all the files you had on the company before your capture. Amongst the files is a list of 10 board members from the company. You then realize what you must do. If you ever plan on living your life again you must take out every member of the company.

    The game is set into missions and there will be two different types of gameplay. One is where you can freely roam the game and use various weapons/tactics to take out your target. Then there will be missions where you are forced to use a sniper rifle. Much like in the tactical assassin games.

    So far I have the first 4 levels completed, and im now working on the 5th missions design.

    I was wondering if anyone out there has any idea's for missions?
    Such as...
    1. Names of Targets

    2. Locations

    3. Objectives needed to kill target

    Just anything that would interesting for the gamer. Im spending alot of time designing levels and sprites so im hoping that anyone would help out with some ideas.

    Also I may need some idea's for weapons, you can get creative with this.

    So far I have
    1. Hand To Hand Combat

    2. Handgun

    3. Remote Mines

    4. Sniper Rifle

     Well I worked on this game for a long time and I just released it today. Since the game is greatly inspired by Zelda I thought I would post a link here. It took me around 6 months to make and I did all the art and programming myself.

    You have 1 dungeon with two bosses. The game has its own original story but I hope it has that Zelda feel to it. Its basically part 1 of an ongoing series. Due to it being created in flash it had to be made this way because flash cant handle to much at once.

    Features-
    Day/Night System
    2 bosses
    1 Dungeon with enemies and all kinds of puzzles
    Lots of items
    Explorable World

    Here is a link to the games location.

    and here is a link to the sponsors site (Spanish version)

    Please leave some constructive criticism. I would also like any ideas you would have for a sequel including items, weapons, level design and story.

    I am having some issues with collision detection in my upcoming game "The Guardian" and I was hoping someone here could help me out?

    Sometimes the main char can get stuck in the walls and the collision isnt as accurate as I wanted. If anyone can help please reply here.

    Here is the code for the collision. It is on the main character and everything that we are hitTesting is withing the walls movie clip.

    onClipEvent (load) {
       this._name = "hiro";
       _root.RUN = 6;
    }
    onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
       if (Key.isDown(Key.RIGHT)) {
          if (_root.Walls.hitTest(getBounds(_root).xMax, _y, true)&&_root.hiroalive && !_root.hirohurt) {
             _root.pushes = true;
          } else {
             if (_root.pause == false and _root.attack == false &&_root.hiroalive && !_root.hirohurt) {
                this._x += _root.RUN;
                _root.pushes = false;
             }
          }
       } else if (Key.isDown(Key.LEFT)) {

                this._x -= _root.RUN;
             }
          }

                _root.pushes = false;
                this._y += _root.RUN;
             }
          }
       } else if (Key.isDown(Key.UP)) {
          if (_root.Walls.hitTest(_x, getBounds(_root).yMin, true) &&_root.hiroalive && !_root.hirohurt) {
          _root.pushes = true;
          } else {
             if (_root.pause == false and _root.attack == false &&_root.hiroalive && !_root.hirohurt) {
                _root.pushes = false;
                this._y -= _root.RUN;

    Other Projects / [WIP] The Guardian
    « on: June 07, 2008, 01:00:37 am »
     This game was greatly influenced by The Legend of Zelda and it has been a project I have been writing for years. Im mainly writing here so others would possibly help me with story details, dungeons and maybe some action scripting of anyone here can do that.

    The story takes place on a small island in the middle of the Sea. The island is called Neveah. The story begins with our main character "Hiro" awaking to a normal day. But soon after awaking he learns that The Village Guardian "Conrad" wishes to see him. Conrad lives deap in the forest and it is unsafe there. So when you try to enter you are stopped by the town bully and you can not proceed in tell you get a sword. (Which the black smith will do as long as you get the necessary items.) Once you get the items, he gives you the sword and shield. So yo can then enter the forest. But you have to fight the bully. Its the battle tutorial. But after defeating him you go through the forest killing goblins, and other enemies. But once to Conrads house. He tells you that his time as Guardian is coming to an end and that you will be is succesor. And that you must go to the guardians temple for your training, and obtain the guardians stone.
    So what I need is some help with the puzzles and such with the 1st dungeon. The boss at the end, is a phantom version of you. Its you overcoming the fear and darkness within yourself.  So if you have any input or anything like that please reply here.

    I know this is probably suppose to be in the downloads section, but the program you need to run this on your computer is around 800 bucks. But you dont need anything to view it on a website.

    But this is my first ever finished game. I had alot of hours of work put into this and I wanted everyone here to see it. Because they helped me get me my start at game design years ago. But I got 2,000 dollars for this game and im working on my next game wich I will post here in a second. So everyone enjoy and tell me what you think.
