Hey, no problem. If you ever want to collab and try doing some music together (mp3 of course, or ogg, if file size is an issue ;)) that would be fine. We can just chuck all our MIDI stuff into FL and I'll do some work on it "humanizing" it and adding whatever kind of extra stuff we need (Got a huge-ass sample collection that I'm dying to put to good use :P) just let me know.

Well, yes, exporting to mp3 would probably be the easiest way for people using soundfonts. While it is bigger, it DOES allow you to have lots of freedom with what you do (cutting and editing audio, adding reverb, delays, and various effects) You could also try encoding it as an mp3 first, then using something like dBpowerAMP to encode it into an Ogg Vorbis file, which, if done at the right rate, can be merely 8-10+ the size of a MIDI, while retaining decent mp3 data.

As for an alternative, I'm not 100% sure, but I would reckon, you could have your music along with soundfonts in the same folder, and set it up somehow (Again, I'm the wrong person for this technical stuff) so that it loads the soundfonts externally.

In any case, it's very nice anyways. We unfortunately have so few musicians here... some of the best ones are gone as well (tssf), but oh well.

It's definately a lot better now... One thing. On the pan pipes, are you doubling it with a breath noise? Now, I'm not an expert, but it seems to me as if those are only used when players start their breathing. It's really a miniscule thing, and hard to tell really, but if you're doubling the breath sounds with the flute, I'd suggest changing things up a bit, and not have them on the ... I don't know, the 5 really fast notes that go upwards. I also noticed there's a breath sound sticking out after somewhere in the middle, it might be some sort of offset, or panning causing this, but it sort of sounds like a "beep" and it sticks out a bit.

^^Please note... I'm being REALLY picky. It's just that it's so good already, there's not a lot I can suggest. Keep it up.

EDIT: It's right at 1 minute, 9 seconds. :P

Well, I suppose this could turn out alright ;) It all depends on how it's executed. It would be neat to see something "new" in the platformer genre... There's a few things you could try, like "faking" 3D, which actually come to think of it, Super Mario World did to an extent (The flipping mesh wire walls that you could climb on, y'know?) and such, but I wish you good luck...

And btw.... more to do with flowers?? :P

It's pretty nice actually. I think though that some of the woodwinds are overlapping each other a bit too much and muddling the sound a bit. You may want to try to break out of the general set up you have now. I know, I do that far too often with my own music, it can be hard to do, but it's worth it. Keeps the interest up. I'll have a look at your other stuff. Keep composing man, this place could always use more musicians!

EDIT: Oh my, I just took a listen to your stuff on the page, and it's all very nice. I especially like your town songs. All I could see getting better would be if you went and used something a bit more high-end like FL Studio to add some reverbs, delay and EQ... of course with some better samples. I love the first town theme, it's a really nice upbeat tune. If you want, I have a few high quality soundfonts (a great pizzicato as well as a great set of woodwinds, as well as some strings) for that town song. It reminds me a lot of the Iselia music from Tales of Symphonia, especially with the beginning pizzicato and ... oboe?

Hey, I'd love to hear the version with soundfonts, but currently, that link is redirecting me to some Trustsoft Inc Antispyware page. :P

Very nice. It has that... "aab/lttp" style to it. (A lot of your sprites, this included, are shaded in a certain way that is like lttp, and your own style. It's nice).

I used a Dizi, Koto, and Shamisen along with a not-so-oriental harp, but that's it.

!!! Illusion of Gaia has got to be one of THE BEST RPGs out there man. It was my first RPG and it was nearly all I played on the SNES. Hell, I still play that game today! I tried some Terranigma, but it was a ROM so I went and deleted it after feeling bad XD I loved the Golden Ship as well as the Undersea Tunnel/Angel Village place. I got to the Solid Arm boss, but I haven't been able to beat him. This playthrough, I've been saving every single herb, and I have like 10 of them, plus all my powerups, etc. I hope I can kill him this time :P

I'm so going to get these if they come out on the Revo. Oh, and btw, I still have the cool little game manual that's like a walkthrough. It came with the game, which is pretty cool.

Audio / Shima - New song
« on: April 07, 2006, 05:03:16 am »
Well... this is technically a bit old, BUT, I have reworked a lot of it, and made an mp3 out of it, using FL Studio. I was a bit reluctant to release this, seeing as how it's for my indie RPG, but I figured what the heck, it's not like you guys are gonna go stealing it.

Shima
(BTW, it's named Shima for the village that it plays in)

There's the link, I hope you enjoy it. This is really my first time making any music with FL Studio.

(It might take a while to load)

Hey, no worries. I said I wouldn't bug him about it, seeing as it's really nice, I was only curious. And there's always room for improvement, too. Look around for a good piccolo soundfont that you can bend and play around with to get that nice "waver" sound I mentioned.  ;)

That's not bad... I've never heard of you, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but it sounds the exact same as the original, and there IS programs that can "copy" mp3 files into Midi files.... Although, being a musician as well, I won't bug you about it.

Now for some crits... In general, you have everything perfect, all this song could really benefit from would be some soundfonts, and possibly a secondary track for the flute when it gets up high and sort of wavers, if you know what I mean.

Miyazaki is a genius. I've seen nearly every Studio Ghibli film, and they've all been amazing.
