yeah, It was time. I am the only mexican here so that means that I am the only one in the forum who can answer your doubts about the use of sombreros and using donkeys as transport. =)

Although I'm not Mexican, my brother-inlaw which lives with us is from Mexico...he's here illegally actually, but I don't care.  Both of my sisters have been to Mexico a few times and are fluent in Spanish, so put all that together and I know a lot about life in Mexico....Definitely not as much as Kren, but I might be able to help answer some questions.

How different is Mexican Spanish from Spain Spanish?

I would say a similar comparison would be American English versus English..English.  Similar, but different pronunciation, with some different words, slang, and phrases.

Does that sound about right Kren?

no, most places are safe but obviously some people get robbed(which it is common in all the world if you ask me),

yes and no, I don't drink tap water, but, people who does don't have any consequences since they have built a tolerance againts that water( mostly poor people)

Domo thanks for the help and yes you are right in that aspect, eventhough Mexican Spanish and Spain spanish speak the same language, some mexican words have different use and definition, even the bad words are different.

Is horchata in Mexico like the "horchata" in American stores, or do you actualy use Chufa?

hmm, I think no :P they don't sell it but I don't like the test so there is no horchata In my house, I prefer coke or " agua de jamaica" water of jamaica( I don't know how you say it in english) .

no >_> I only use sombreros in the independence day of Mexico, and donkeys are mostly used by poor people :P.
