Right guys, basically I need the alpha channel of the attached image to be based on how dark the sum of the other channels are (eg. a black pixel is fully transparent, a white is fully opaque and a greyish one would be somewhere in the middle). Any help on how to do this?

I can't for the life of me remember how to do this, I know its possible though as I've done it in the past.

If it's easier than what you're doing, you could just set the layer to "screen" under the drop menu that has the layer effects on it. That gets rid of any black but keeps white as is.

Thats not quite what I was after SC, what I was after was an effect similar to that in the attachment. I wouldn't worry anyway, I've fixed it now.
