I like the stage and its transformations but I can't help but feel like it's just a bad character add. Now don't get me wrong sure FF7 was a nice game and Cloud is iconic but this is another swordsman in Smash that looks like it plays like an Ike clone. I could at least appreciate Ryu when he got added due to the role as a fighting game representative that gives "legitimacy" to Smash and that his moves were unique. 

It's like Nintendo doesn't know how to celebrate it's own history or promote itself anymore. I'll probqbly still buy though for that stage though.

Yea, I did always think he would be an Ike clone when Brawl came out and I was thinking about what kind of move set Cloud could have.  But I guess we'll see!

When I saw that I thought it was like those project M mods, then I clicked on it and went :O.
This pretty much paves the way for either Sora, Sephiroth or any other FF character to show up in the near future.
But man, I have high hopes for Terra Branford, but she is soooo underrated and possibly forgotten:C. In my book, FF3/6 is close to FF7, it's the Majora's Mask to FF7's OOT.

Best thing of all, Link and Cloud can finally fight/team up with each other after all this time.

What was a bigger show to me is that they made Link into Linkle

I Agree that FF7 was a good game and Cloud is a good character but i have just 1 problem with him being in smash:

FF7 was THE FF GAME that cut the strings between Nintendo and Square for the FF francise, i know there are now the Crystal Chronicles on Nintendo consoles but FF7 content on a Nintendo console just isnt right...

they should have gotten the license for Chrono (Trigger) or an Character from FF 4-6 (aka 1-3) which were on Nintendo Consoles... and where is Shovel Knight? they make Amiibos and Games on all Plattforms but no Smash Fighter for him?

This is obviously because of the fighter ballot (people voting to get their favourite character in smash 4), but such things, while may have been fantasies for many people, were simple just that. Nothing more than a silly fantasy, and we all knew that.

Nintendo is known for having a lack of, or just weird common sense, and they tend to seemingly ignore the obvious from screaming fans (probably because of the differences in a screaming fan only thinking about their current selves vs a company that has survived over a century, thinking well into the future), but every now and then, they just go and completely destroy such "common senses" (or more like decided facts - that such a thing is just far too impossible) like this.
I think it's brilliant!

Of course when watching the Nintendo direct and it ended, only to show a black starry like screen with music quite similar to FF7's, my mind was just thinking it must just be a coincidence that it's similar. Of course it wasn't just similar, it WAS the FF7 music, but it was just too far-fetched to believe until it was spelled out on the screen.

Second reaction: So the combination Square Enix + Nintendo + Smash Deals is a thing now. Will we see Geno next I wonder?

Btw: I don't own the game or fanboy over either Cloud or Geno, but it's nice to see so many happy faces :)

Man, even watching that a few times in HD, the Wii-U looks so dated in terms of graphical quality.  I know this is a side-track to the main topic, sorry.
Maybe it is a bad choice of game?  I don't know but the Playstations All-Stars or whatever it was on PS3 looked so much better and that had mixed character styles in it.

Not that I am a graphics junky.  I play games on computers that I run games on Medium just so I can have 60fps.  Something about Smash looks bland.  The textures seem bland on the characters.  The environments look good, damn good.  The characters themselves just seem like someone took Gamecube models, touched them up in Blender, then baked some neato shiny effects onto them.

I am sure there is much more than that being done, but it just doesn't wow me like the jump from Smash to Melee did, FF IX to FFX, etc.  I am not even a huge Smash person either.  I was really into Smash and less into Melee.  I touched Brawl literally once for a 2 hour span to play against/with you guys here on ZFGC when it released.  That is it.

Anyway, it is awesome that other franchises are being let into Smash.  Personally, I would love to see Son Goku or Piccolo from the Dragon Ball universe make an appearance.  I see Ryu is in Smash - that is a nice choice.

I guess I just don't keep up much with Nintendo these days.  :(

So, how are you guys liking Smash?  How are the prices on the DLC?  I have no clue as I don't even own a Wii-U or 3DS(might grab a 3DS soon since I have some nice money flowing in now, which means I need to start thinking about a game library).

It might just be how they zoomed in (from a distance it'd look decent) or how for the trailer that might indicate something that hasn't fully been polished up.

Naw, I really thing that Dragonball has characters that could have some really fun Smash moves and just be fun to play.  I never played Smash for the competitive side of it.  It was always to have fun with couch gaming with 4 people chilling in the living room.

It does run at 60fps at 1080p though, that with perhaps a bit of purposely making the characters stand out instead of naturally blending into the backgrounds could be why  the characters (of which there can be 8 on screen playing at once) seem weird to you maybe, never really been conscious of such a thing myself though, so no idea what's going on!

Also don't forget that Youtube 1080p is encoded differently (and is inferior) than a console's 1080p!  Trailers will always look more shoddy than the actual game.

Edit: Actually, the Youtube video doesn't even appear to be available in 1080p.  The highest it has is 360p!  That would explain a lot :P
