Click the 'Build->Build Solution' menu item (I'm assuming the layout is the same as C# express as I don't use express for C++)

Yeh, I think you have screwed up as there is definitely a build menu. Are you sure you actually created a solution? Rather than just say created a new file and pasting your code in? It needs to be in a solution to compile.
