Title: Crappy Games!
Post by: Hammer Bro. Mike on February 10, 2008, 06:20:37 pm
Basically, you post which games that you've played and thought were crappy, sucked, blowed, whatever else the kids today say, etc.

I think the crappiest game I've played was Home Alone on the NES.

Yeah, I heard the CD-i Zelda games were really crap. Some consider them that they aren't Zelda games at all, as well as not fitting with the Zelda game made by Nintendo themselves.

TP doesn't deserve to be in the league of crappy games. It was pretty decent but just didn't live up to the hype

Any game about a show on Nickolodian is guaranteed to be a !@#$% fest.

Movie games are crap. Just watch some of the AVGN videos. He's looked at movie games like Back to the Future and Ghostbusters and they were crap compared to the movies. If companies like THQ and Ubisoft keep making these movie games, they should make them good.

Goldeneye 007 was a good movie-game.  :D  But that's one of the few exceptions...

Twilight Princess was very highly hyped, but ended up being shitty-to-mediocre in every way.  In my book, that makes it crappy.

Turok Evolution. It's so crappy that it's actually good. (SPOILER) The last boss is a racist redneck with a mechanical arm that rides on a giant tusked T-Rex yelling phrases such as "where's your warrior spirit now?" and "on your feet savage, it's time to dance!" To me this blatantly offensive (not to mentioned ridiculous) writing says a lot about the overall quality of the game. Of course that's just a taste of the horrible story, which of course is but a single aspect of the game, one that goes nicely with its multitude of glitches, half-assed character designs, and idiotic AI.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=gGq89GvEetk (the aforementioned boss, hilarious)

Evolution Skateboarding is crap. The only good thing about it is that you can unlock Snake as a character, except you have to beat everything in the single-player mode.

Shitty-to-mediocre? Well I agree that Twilight Princess was overly hyped, but it was still a very good game, in my opinion. I guess overhyping can ruin any game, though.

I'm hoping that doesn't happen with Brawl. Well, I don't think that will happen. Twilight Princess is an alright game but it doesn't really meet up to standards as it should have been. It was meant to be a harder and a more in-depth game, except with the Wii's "we as in everyone" thing, they made it easier for the people new to the games.

I was able to play through the entire game at least, so I wouldn't say it's that bad. Crappy games are the ones you can't play for more than five minutes without crying. I do really dislike TP though.

Jak 2

Thanks for reminding me. Gawd I hate that game. Jak and Daxter was a fun platformer, whereas Jak 2 was in that whole "LOLZ LETZ MAKE THE MAIN CHARACTER A BADASS WHO STEALS CARZ!!!!1" mindset of many game developers at the time. That and many other reasons (mostly ones involving game mechanics).

Ahhh, Kusoge. My one true love.

Try out Spelunker. It's so bad it's good. I remember a flash game being very similar to Spelunker, but in ASCII and based on 4chan. Hilariously bad.

Also, the aforementioned Superman 64, anything with Mickey Mouse in the title, and most games actually developed by Acclaim (Dear god, BMX XXX wasn't even good porn.)

I agree, it is a good game, but gets more annoying as you go on.

Twilight princess is a good game, but I can never get into the mood to play it. I still wish ocarina of time was remade with updated graphics, longer and improved. Not that it has to be improved. XD

Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects
-> It's bad when the most fun part of a game is jumping off the edge. :(
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
-> I just stopped playing it like halfway through. There's nothing that keeps me interested in this game.
recent sonic team games
-> Sonic team. enough said.
Mario Party games past Mario Party 3
-> seriously. The DS one might have been good if it had wifi.
Metroid Prime: Hunters
-> bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice For All
-> boooooooooooooooooring. It lacks the magic the other two games in the series have. (I haven't played Apollo Justice yet)
some other games
-> yeah they suck, seriously

If memory serves PSO didn't have a pause thing either. PSO wasn't story-based (it had an amazing story if you bothered to learn it thought, really interesting) though, so it was allowable.
I still like PSU...can't play it because my Xbox is up the shitter...the red lights...the red lights...they haunts us...they haunts our dreams...

And FYI Sonic Team CAN make Good 3D game, The original PSO (and the Xbox remake with an extra episode) is a classic by all intents and purposes.

anyway, the worst game I've ever played has to be:

Now that's a really shitty game. Really, the game play is realistic, but it's so repetitive, and you have to wait a long time while in the in field. Not just that but it's physically tiring. It makes Wii games look physically undemanding.

I know how to play, but the things you have to play with? Honestly? It's as if they just took fuzzy logic and made it so fuzzy. Half of them fail every int check thrown at them, it's ridiculously tedious.

No.

The reason I disliked MGS2 was because it really was a !@#$% game. I have nothing against the story (though the 40 minute conversations and bizarre supernatural villains are questionable), and I really liked the game towards the end (when it starts to ponder on what's real and what's not) and I mean, it had a great sense of action, drama, despair and everything... but the gameplay was just horrible. The use of stealth can be avoided when you're not afraid of walking in the room, shooting all the guys (or running straight through the room) and moving on. The stealth controls were also really lousy. Sliding along the wall had my thumbs in uncomfortable positions and it was too difficult to use firearms from the fixed third-person viewpoint. And then the bosses... god, the bosses. Horrible. Especially the last boss. Raiden moves so crappily the fight just feels completely out of touch and out of order. It doesn't seem like the enemy's movements were meant to co-respond with what Raiden could do. Boss battles were just all over the place and they felt like crap. Overall I think Metal Gear Solid 2 would have worked better as anime rather than a game.

Though that doesn't change the fact that I enjoyed the story immensely. I actually really want to play Metal Gear Solid 4 to know how things finish up.

On a side note, I actually really like Metal Gear Solid 3. I think a lot of the said issues have been improved and refined, and I hope this continues in MGS4.

Twilight Princess is the only game I've ever forced myself to finish, just incase it somehow redeemed itself right near the end.
Hey, Metroid Prime 2 did (though it was nowhere near as bad as Twilight Princess)

Yoshi's Island DS, holy !@#$% I hate this game so much, it's an absolute disgrace in every single way to the greatest 2D platformer ever- it shouldn't have been made.
New Super Mario Bros sucked too, level design was completely phoned in, gameplay was boring and it just felt like a fangame. But that's kinda what they were aiming for.

What else...
Phantom Hourglass was pretty lame too, a waste of the wind waker sequel if you ask me.

And anyone who says Galaxy, just seriously, you must be joking or have horrible taste.

Single Player wise I'd have too say Halo 3. Sure the Multi-player was fantastic amounts of fun-- for a while-- but the single player was just boring and repetitive. Still haven't completed... cant be arsed too either, maybe when I'm in the mood too grate my bollocks I'll play it again.

Yeah, I really wasn't disappointed at all by it. Although I admit it doesn't quite have that Zelda feeling. JUST missed the nail head. I think it's the fact Gerudo Valley/Fortress are completely missing, and you don't just walk everywhere like you normally do. For example, you use a cannon to get to Gerudo Desert.
Title: Re: Crappy Games!

This forum hates Twilight Princess, it's just that simple.

Though not uncommon. There are a lot of people across the intertubez who were very disappointed in Twilight Princess. Regarding the matter, I think my review mostly says it all but to reiterate I think the amount of hype (which NoA created with the first trailer which THEY designed) ruined the game. Everyone thought it was going to be more than it was but it wasn't.

It wasn't a bad Zelda game, it just didn't introduce anything new.

But I'd rather not see another Twilight discussion on this forum so let's continue this topic...

Another game I disliked quite a lot was Kingdom Hearts. There was very little I liked about that game...

My dislikes:
Almost every game based on a movie (The only one I've ever played that was slightly non-linear and the most fun had to be harry potter 3 on PC)
and sporting games. I seriously don't see why you'd play a game about sports rather than play the actual thing in real life.

Well, I'm sure if you took a gun and went around shooting everything in sight it'd be a whole lot funner than any game could ever be. :P

But afterwards you'd feel extremely bad because it's horribly wrong to do something like that.

I have to say I'm in the middle with the Twilight Princess hating. I feel that it was fairly bland and unimaginative for a Zelda game, however I still like it, and consider it to be a great game. Although I find it to be one of the worst Zelda games I've played.

As for a crappy game, I'm going to go with World of Warcraft. I played that game for hours and I still got almost nothing out of it, I just didn't enjoy it as much as most people seem to.

I'm also going to say Final Fantasy VII, due to it being incredibly overrated, and because FFVIII is so much better.

Amen to that, brutha.

I think the story of VIII was overall more epic than VII, and I thought the junction system allowed for a bit more creativity in character development. Plus, Rinoa is so cute! But these are just my opinions.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT????  The plot is nonexistant?!?!?!?!  THey freaking come right out in the first ten minutes and TELL YOU almost the ENTIRE plot of the game!  And after that, it's a game of "collect the melodies" for pretty much the rest of the game, and on your second playthrough you can actually see the cause-and-effect of all the in-game events going on.  If anything, the plot is TOO there.  I will say, though, that it's plot IS kinda convoluted.

And it's not a shitty game, it was just supposed to be kind of a nostalgic game.  Only Japan understood that, though, since they got all the NES RPGs AND the original Mother. :-/

I agree. But I must be one of the people the game is for. I like random humor, and that game is chock-full of it. And plus, without it, we wouldn't be able to throw Mr. Saturn at people in Smash Bros. That's just fun right there. And on that note; *goes and plays Earthbound*

No, I really mean that it's a shitty game. The plot is nonexistant halfway through the game, and it's filled with childish potty humor.

Dont get too serious guys >_> For example, I like the Megaman Battlenetwork series, noone else in the world does, its all opinion. Dont be offended or anything.

Yes, and it's boring as all hell. The plot was too simple to warrant a second playthrough.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, seriously.

QFMFT. Seriously, the naked Raiden segment made me cry and feel gay at the same time.

Anyway, here's my list of games I want to die.

I'm playing my second play-through. Although your statement offended me a great deal, I won't flip. Unless you say that Mother 1 is a bad game.

WTF.  You just changed your stance completely.  You said the the plot was "nonexistant".  I cannot trust you, nor argue with you, anymore.  It is obvious you are making this decision based on fanboyism.

Also, in my opinion, Mother 1 sucked.  It was waaay too slow paced for my tastes.  Earthbound jumped straight from plot point to plot point and most of the time outright told you where you needed to go next.  Mother 1...  Well, it just sort of leaves you confused about what to do next.

Alright, now to steer this topic back on the correct path...  Games that suck...  Games that suck...

Umm....  Medal of Honor: Vanguard on Wii
Ninjabread Man
Anubis 2 (Where is Anubis 1?)
Billy the Wizard

It's boring because you're force fed the entire story at the beginning, and nothing else happens for the rest of the damn game (except some really trippy !@#$% near the middle). How is that so contradictary?

Nonexistant does not mean you're force fed the entire story at the beginning. In fact, if you pay close attention, there is alot of story going on throughout the entire first portion of the game.  It's all about the Mani Mani statue, which is causing all this crazy trippy ass shi7.  But either way, I tried to steer this topic back on track because I didn't want to argue about it.  You should understand that I am willing to argue to the death about this game being good, as it was a great experience for me.  It may not be a great experience for everyone, but it was for me.  Kinda like how Final Fantasy 7 is a great experience for many, but theres the people that hate it because it technically sucked and was boring.

Alright, games that were crappy...  Ummm.....   Sonic and the Secret Rings.  Very, very, very crappy.

I meant Nonexistant after the very first part. The story disappears for a while and resurfaces at the end, making the game a dismal boring heap for a good chunk of the game.

You mean the chunk between Twoson and Threed?  Because a skilled player can bring that down to about 10 mins.

Please name a crappy game or at least something on topic when you post, 'cuz i'm tired of arguing about Earthbound.

Ummm...  I didn't like the original Dragon Warrior.  Wasn't crappy, though...

All of the GTAs: Where's the story? "Thug gets out of jail and kills people?" Yes, how compelling. OH I WISH I WAS A GANGSTA IN THE GHETTO...

>:-|

My homies gonna bust a cap on you, foo!

And yeah, the Mother games are really an acquired taste. I wouldn't say crappy because playing Earthbound was one of the most awesome gaming experiences I've had in a long time. The story isn't nonexistent. Through the whole game you're treated to many scenarios and scenes that advance the plot just like any other game. You're never doing anything without knowing what's going on. Sure, it's a little slow to get from "plot-point" to "plot-point" but that's just how Earthbound is. It has quirky game-play and battles to pad out that time in between, so it's not a problem for me.

And yeah, there are a lot of random battles in between towns. Maybe that's the central reason it's disliked because it takes a long time wade through all of them. And most of them are unavoidable.

Did you even play any of the GTA games? Here are the stories from the three me and my brother have played.

GTA 3: Claude is robbing a place with his girlfriend Catalina, Catalina double crosses Claude, shoots me and escapes, the cops catch claude, Him and another Inmate are being transported to prison, the other guys friend sets up a trap, freeing him and Claude, Claude brings him to his friends, Claude basically wants revenge on Catalina.

GTA: Vice City: I forgot, i think Tommy Vercetti is going to a place, and gets double crossed or something, he escapes, i honestly forgot the story on this one. But it's not like anything you described.

GTA: San Andreas: Carl Johnson lives in Vice City, his mom is shot and killed, so he goes back home to Los Santos, San Andreas to bury his mom and such. He wants to find her killer or something, definitely a larger game then both 3 and VC. SA is my favorite GTA. This is the only one that follows the Gangsta in the ghetto thing you said.

Yeah, the GTA games most certainly do have stories. And even if they didn't, that doesn't make them bad. They're some of the funnest games ever. I don't know who decided games need "stories". Back in the early days of video games, no games had stories. There was pong and that kind of good !@#$%. !@#$% RPGs.

You know what game sucks?

Super Mario Galaxy.  I loved it.

BUT...  Playing through it again now, it annoys me how kid-oriented Bowser's final boss fight is...  =/

Oh, and the original Halo.  It was an average FPS that didn't do anything new, but Microsoft's hype machine managed to convince you it did.  I just...  couldn't get into it.  Halo 2 is redeemed by it's multiplayer system...  but Halo...  Halo just phails in my book.

And...  World of Warcraft.  It's too needlessly complex, and I find the controls abhorable.  It doesn't know whether it wants to be an RTS or an RPG.  It's kinda...  stuck between the two.  And most of the people I know who like it are completely ridiculous and fanboyish about it.

I'm not looking for an argument.  Just list more crappy games.   I consider these games semi-crappy, and these are opinions.  Don't argue, just continue the list.  Please.

1.   extremely bad, unpleasant, or inferior; lousy: crappy weather.
2.   nasty, humiliating, insulting, or unfair: What a crappy thing to say about anyone!
3.   cheaply made or done; shoddy: a crappy job.

since when was "average" the same as "extremely bad"?

I think you need to re-define your expectations of games.

average is "inferior/lousy", as well as "shoddy".  I believe both of these apply to my Halo 1 experience.
Halo 2 and 3 were great though.  (Mostly because of their multiplayer :-/)

Ballz, the super nintendo 3d fighting game.  It sucked BIG TIME.

The one BIG thing that was crappy about Super Mario Galaxy was that it was WAYY to easy. Bowser was easy. Stars were easy to get. Bosses were easy. The only few challenging things were a few stars to get and a couple Purple coin stars. I guess I'm over exaggerating, but who else thinks it was mostly easy? And I have a feeling Nintendo's games are going to start to get too easy.
