Is it worth buying? Mind you I have no laptop and only an Apple desktop computer. And if I did have a Windows laptop I'd want it to be able to run games nicely.

Alienware = Overpriced. Badly. Your basically just paying for the logo on one of those.

Mind you I can't talk, I bought an XPS laptop u_u.

Yeah, as Infini mentioned, I have also noticed so. Try to check for a wider range of stores, you might see better deals. Good luck ^^

The term "gaming laptop" is a joke because of their lack of upgradability. Seriously, just build a desktop. $500 will get you Crysis on high.

He's also looking for portability, plus I doubt he would ever upgrade his machine. He's not very technical.. >.>

In that case, look around at other vendors, such as Ibuypower and Cyberpower Inc for laptops that have similar specs at affordable prices. The only reason to ever buy anything for Alienware is for pure aesthetics.

Conversion!

Anyway, before you even posted this topic, I think you should have gone to http://www.ripoffreport.com/ to see the rep of the company.

And Alienware has terrible rep. I wouldn't even touch one of those. : S

Anyway, as Dantz said, a "gaming" laptop is very unlikely. Try to get a Toshiba Satellite.

I personally think those laptops are amazing. I have used them before and they take gaming to a whole new level. They are a bit pricey but I think they are worth it!

Ha, I wish you could have told me that for a 600 dollar PC without a graphics card. Though, it did come with an awesome monitor with webcam and microphone built in, and USB ports on the side.

I personally just got a Cyberpower laptop in March. Its a high end machine for only around $1100. I had a bit of an issue when trying to rush the order, but that aside everything turned out great.

No.  My friend bought an alienware laptop some 4 years ago.  Waste of $3000.  Overheats when you use it for more than 10 minutes without anything running and if you press multiple keys at once the whole thing shuts off.  His gpu almost fried on him once too.  Even with the high specs, it can't run any Source based games even on low settings.  It's got..

3.0 ghz pentium 4
radeon 9600
1.5gb ram

Look for a NVidia 9600, 8800, or 9800 graphics card (in that order), at least 4 GB of RAM if it uses Vista, and any dual core processor in the 2.5 and up range. That should do you respectably.
