I know when I was in high school it was almost always ineffective and consumed way to much time.

Recently a push in, I think London Public Schools, the board (made of teachers) decided to abolish homework for young kids and drastically reduce it for older ones (probably limiting secondary students to project type things). I really think Homework is a big waste of time, and causes more confusion than good. What good is it, if you give someone something they already don't understand, take it home and then truly have no way of getting help regarding the subject.

Pointless imo.

I've probably done homework a total of... 5 times in my life.

Never liked it, never will, unless the homework is sexual.

Edit: I find it takes too much time; inneffective, well for me at least, because even if I study or something, I'll end up forgetting it before the test or something. Lol School.

Personally I do as little homework as I can, but my school is basically built around homework. I mean, if I don't do it you pretty much fail the class. Two years ago I did really good on all my tests in history, but didn't really care too much about homework other than big projects and the like. I still ended up having a D through most of the year.

It's a little better no that I'm in high school now, there is a lot less homework. Enough so that I gave up on doing my homework for the past while so I could help a friend in the same situation that I was in with her homework, and it has helped her grade a lot. America's education system, and specifically ours, sucks!

I see homework as an ineffective way of teaching children. I feel like it is a substitute for lazy teachers as opposed to putting the extra effort during class. I've hardly ever done homework, I am now homeschooled, and I am on schedule to get be getting my GED (equivalent to a highschool dimploma) almost a year before I would have in normal schooling.

I voted the last choice, but I have an exception with English class, considering I take a college level english and the teacher(though he may be the coolest guy ever) is not lenient at all.  Arg, back to reading All the King's Men.

Lol, funny how people on an internet forum say homework is too time consuming, you're on a !@#$% internet forum, how is that not a waste of time, and homework isn't? If you don't understand something, ask the !@#$% teacher, don't go home, say you can't understand it, and then go on a zelda forum, ask the teacher to explain it to you, make sure you understand it all, go home, revise it and learn it, go to school, and there's a new something you can do or know. Congratulations.

I think homework is time consuming. I don't really do homework that much anymore and I barely get any homework. It can be effective at times but sometimes when I want to play some games or post on ZFGC, I can't because I got homework to do.

Takes too much time; effective. I don't make it always though, only on subjects where I am having trouble with.

You see though... the argument of "Is homework necessary or unnecessary" is kinda one sided :P

The ones who oppose it are the ones who neither like doing homework (at all), or don't realize that they're proving that homework is needed. It's lose lose for someone speaking against it :P... You see, homework doesn't exist to educate the student. That's not its intent at all; so the argument of it filling the void for lazy teachers doesn't work. Homework's only real intent is to build responsibility in the student. If the student is doing the work, they're being productive and doing what they're supposed to out of class. The student complaining about homework is the one who probably doesn't have a strong work ethic, or goofs off when they're out of school. A teacher's job is to shape the students; and by giving them responsibilities out of class they're doing exactly what they're supposed to be doing.

Now keep in mind too though; that doesn't mean that the teacher hasn't lost sight of the purpose of homework. They can be cruel sometimes :(
