Actually, you still can't legally have the iso's that you download, even if you have the game.

Tricky territory there... in the UK at least, copyright holders are obliged to let people who own a copy of copyrighted software to keep at least one copy for personal use.

So, as long as they're the same software version etc. then it's legally allowed - but only if he kept only a single copy.
