Awesome!

Reminds me of when I found a non-greatest hits version of Final Fantasy VII in perfect condition for a ridiculously cheap price a couple years ago.

I probably wouldn't open it, lol. I'm a nerd like that.

Lol, I don't know if I'd even be having fun after that many runs. >.>

I'm already at a point where I'm like, "A replay would be fun, but there's nothing else I can do but odd challanges (like playing w/no materia) which aren't super appealing."

Yeah, I agree.

The Xbox has Live which is a very solid online gaming community, great for the hard core multiplayer gamer. A lineup of killer titles (though again, I'm personally not interested in them) and many features the PS3 has.

The PS3 has extreme power, disc capacity, home, and a couple of awesome exclusives itself.

There's an answer for either player.

Now go for a perfect save file with me!

Haha, of course. One of the first things I did.

My most recent completion file of FF7 was probably around my 8th playthrough but I first beat Ruby and Emerald weapon when I was 12 on my second playthrough. I'm 21 now. >.<

Well, I'm not sure what it is you're referring to being incorrect but...

No, there are no requirements for getting the Excalibur II other than getting to the final area in under 12 hours.

What I'm talking about, is creating a 'perfect' file, which has the said weapon, Max stats and everything else obtained and completed in the game.

Oh, ok now I understand.

I have a perfect FF7 file. Everything and everyone is lvl 99 ^_^

Me too. All level 99, all materia obtained and mastered *at least* three times each. All limit breaks. Every item in the game (pain in the ass w/how many missables there are), etc.

Even spent a good deal of time morph farming the monsters in the crashed Gelnika for power, speed, and magic sources to greatly raise everyone's stats. Technically mine isn't a perfect file because I'm too lazy to get everyone's stats to 255 (because it is vastly time consuming) but I got them all very, very high.

First off (minor spoilers about obtainable items)

Well, see the thing is;

stat growth works like this in FFIX. If you wear gear with +STR you're likely to gain permanent +STR stats by leveling up w/said gear on. The same w/Magic, Speed and Spirit respectively. Now, the more of a stat increase a piece of gear gives, the more permanent stat growth you'll see, i.e. leveling with a headpiece that gives +2 STR nets more STR growth in the long run than a headpiece with +1 STR. With that said, I can explain how max stats are obtained in FFIX.

Since you don't have access to the best items in the game until the end of the game, leveling during the main story will result in many levels gained without the best gear on, and thus less than the best stat growth. For a truly perfect file, you must reach the end of the game without obtaining any experience that isn't forced upon you, equip the best stat growth gear and then level to 99 with it. The best possible result upon getting to the end of the game is Zidane at level 31 and the other characters as level 1.

So, the perfect file requires you to get to the end in under 12 hours (to obtain the Excalibur II) with Zidane at level 31 and the rest of the characters at 1 without missing ANY missable items or content (there is a lot in FFIX). Some of the mini-games that you only have one chance at (like the very difficult Hippaul race in Disc 3) must be completed in a single go to avoid wasting time so you can still get the Excalibur II at the end while getting the key item from completing the mini-game as well.

Its going to be quite a challenge but I'm really excited about it. For the longest time I had assumed it was not possible to get to the end in under 12 hours WHILE completing the rest of the aforementioned required tasks for a perfect file. Now that I know it is, I'm very excited at having a reason to start a new FFIX file.

Yeah, no kidding. Sure, Xbox may be the better choice in terms of lineup (though I'm personally not impressed by any of their exclusives other than Bioshock[which is now coming to PS3]) but the PS3 is unarguably the better system.

When I made the console choice a year or so ago I came inches away from getting an Xbox. I thought, MGS4 and FFXIII won't be out for so long, who cares? However, I didn't fall prey to my impulses and got the PS3. All of the games I have been interested in were released on both systems and I finally did get to spend some quality time with MGS4.

I had always worried if I'd regret my PS3 decision and it has been nothing but more and more enjoyment. Its awesome being able to download movies from the PSN store onto my PS3, and then watch them on my PSP anywhere I go w/wi-fi internet by syncing it to my PS3. Home is still coming. Blu-Ray has continued to amaze me and the system itself is immensely powerful; who's power hasn't even been fully tapped into yet. Great investment. It really is.

No disrespect to Xbox owners or fans but the PS3 is a great system.

Not exactly. I know many folk who feel the same.

I know many people who bought a PS3 solely because of MGS4. That's a null debate.

With all due respect, I really don't think it will be considered for release on the 360 at this point, despite the spike in sales it would see via the new console and therefore new demographic(so to speak) available.

At least you got FFXIII to look forward to, if you are looking forward to it.

On a semi-side note, I'm about to attempt a Excalibur II - Perfect Game run.

Requires getting to the end with Zidane at lvl 31, the rest of the characters lvl 1 (for maxing stats via gear at the end) in under twelve hours without missing any missable items.

Found some guide on gamefaqs for it. I'm excited to do it. Gonna start in a week!

Such an accurate and objective analysis of the game.

While I don't agree with it being the best game every to grace the human race, I agree with everything else you said. Its astounding, it really is.

I'm actually in the middle of playing it through (again) with my GF (took forever for me to convince her to play it) by using its 2 player battle controls. Just hit disc 3.

So great. It really is.

In no particular order they are the following:

-Final Fantasy 7, 9 and Tactics (Counting them as one game, ha!)
-Metal Gear Solid (Any)
-Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
-Skate (Because its the closest thing I can get to skating in a game if I'm not IRL)
-Lumines (Its so meditative)
