I dropped my Vista partition, and installed Ubuntu. :P I personally think the Mac OS is the prettiest GUI out there, and you don't need a gig of ram to run it. Those Mac commercials crack me up.

Actually, I have never been the guy to stick to old operating systems. I have usually embraced new OS quite easily. (Well, except for Windows ME) I just never saw such a jump in system requirements as I've seen in Vista. Meh, your probably right. I probably give in at some point however, it'll be for a better reason than just a pretty face.

Meh, I just had a new HP entertainment laptop custom built in Feb. with Vista installed on it. Vista is just too much of a resource hog for what what it is. I wound up making the computer dual bootable, and I have run XP ever since. In my opinion, Vista is just plain horrible, in the respect that it doesn't really offer too much over XP. Thanx Microsoft, you've done it again. -_- Is there really a valid reason to commit to Vista? Eye candy just isn't reason enough, especially if you need a gig of RAM to do it. If you want eye candy, buy yourself a Mac.

I don't think having the hearts is that big of a deal. However, I do like the idea of chests, even if a editing/sizing is in order.

I'm getting a new laptop within the month and it'll have vista on it. Not sure how excited I am about that. The fancy schmancy interface doesn't really impress me all that much. It's nice, but not really neccessary. If it provides more productivity, then it'll be a "win" for me. Otherwise, I've been quite happy with XP.

And also, the style in your sig (like it better), are you doing anything with that?  Cause you really should!  :)

Lol, you know I was thinking the same thing when I first saw his avatar. I like the link sprite, and the pallet is nice. I'll try and contribute to this project.

One of my biggest time savers I get with Corel Photo Paint vs. paint are:

Resizing of the brush on the fly to any size by holding the shift key
Color masks
Hue shifter
Replace colors
Filters
Drop shadows
Color, contrast, intensity changes
Advanced .png options
8 bit conversion that doesn't look like crap
Custom pallets save/load
Grid snapping
just to mention a few....

Someone needs to just recreate Paint, but add/extend on the features, e.g. add support for more formats, higher zoom levels, palette importing etc.

In essence that's what advanced paint programs are. All the real difference between paint and other image editing software are the extra perks they offer. While there's nothing wrong with paint, it's just very slow and cumbersome to work in. The layered approach that many advanced image editing tools offer increase productivity many times over in my opinion.

That's about the dumbest/funniest thing I've read all day. ATHF rulez.

It means the creator forgot to upload the correct stand alone version of the game. What a dunce. Try downloading it again it should work. If using Firefox, you may need to clear the cache for the newest uploaded version. Remember, when playing the game, press F4 for windowed mode. If you want a good looking font, and don't have RPG Maker 2000(3) you'll need the rm2k3 fonts. I suggest Google, as I think posting a link to them is considered a no no here.

Personally, I prefer Ryu Kage's screens to Xfixium's, no offense Xfixium. However, let me explain what I mean. I assume the idea of this project is to get Link's Awakening game and feel, just with MC sprites. I get this feel with Kage's screens. With Xfixium's screens, I feel it's more of TMC's feel with LA's game. It's ok, just not my kinda thing. When I play an LA remake, I like to feel the essence of LA.

I see your point. Very true.

Diagonal walking its possible in RPG maker.

I'm well aware that RM2K can do 8 directional movement, but I decided against it. Mainly because the diagonal movement felt like it would futher accentuate the already clunky grid based movement.

Ah Xfixium, I remember yours it was pretty good but it felt retarded that I couldn't walk diagonal + that you remixed alttp with MC sprites. But its hard to get some enemies in MC style ofcourse.

You have to remember, LA was made before MC ever existed. The only MC sprites I had was sheets of different colored Links from the GBA version of 4 swords (via Shyguy Kingdom), and 4 jpgs of the up and coming MC title. Which it tooks months after the release of LA for it to be available to me. In all reality there were only two things that were MC styled. The treetops and Link (Which you can change through a password). As for the diagonal movement, it's a RM2K3 game, what did you expect?

hey Xfixium glad to see you around, those screens look awesome i need to be more detailed if i want mine to look good too. what do you think of my screens so far? i know i haven't included a hud yet but i'm just gonna use the mc hud. also, are you still working on la in rpgmaker? or did you switch to gm.

Your screens are good for the base of your vision. My suggestion is try and break up the "squareness" of each room you design. The roads don't have to be perfectly square like the original, they can be broken up by other tiles. Remember, you don't need to be super detailed. Sometimes a room can look TOO busy, and distract the player from important elements in the room. There is a fine line so just experiment. Using the MC hud is a very good idea, I've always felt my approach to the hud was a little too much. I'm not working with RM2K or Game Maker at this point. I'm still working on designing my own engine and editor. Which will be used eventually to make LA.

True dat. I was going to make some new things myself. I'm probably not going to work on LA for quite a bit of time though. For the record  I did remake most of the old demo I made in MC graphics. Here are my versions of the areas you chose for your screenshots.

It's cool to see what other people do with the same thing. Just like all the versions of Oot I see around. Good luck with this, your gb version looked promising also.
