For the longest time I've been wondering why everyone seems to be clamoring to spend hundreds of dollars just so they can play The Elder Scrolls IV, and it wasn't until I played it that I finally figured out why: because it's worth it. Oblivion is one of the most beautiful and detailed games I've ever played, and it's extremely open-ended as well, making it almost impossible to complete the game 100%. As you travel through the vast overworld from area to area, you'll pass so many things to do that you'll find it very hard to just do the main quest. There are so many towns, forts, and caves to explore, so many enemies to battle, and so much to see. It really feels like a real, living, changing world. You can find encampments out in the wilderness, breathtaking lakes reflecting the amazing sunset, remnants of old forts and civilizations; there's just so much in this game. At one point I found a statue so beautiful that I actually stopped there and waited for the sunrise to get a better look at it, and I'm the kind of guy who will usually play just the main quest and ignore all else. Even with just your character you have an alarming number of options for customization. The smallest of details seem amazing with Oblivion's graphics, including something simple and everyday, like watching a cob of corn roll over in a bowl when you pick up the one next to it, and fallen foes' bodies fall against walls instead of through them. Every single bit of dialogue features excellent voice acting, aiding to immerse you in the experience.

I know I'm rambling here, but I've just recently played the game at my friend's house, and there's so much to love about it that I don't even know what to say. It is truly the most beautiful and detailed game of all time.

Now you see what I mean when you I say I wanna shell out a couple hundred bucks to own this game.

The game is detailed on every level! When it's at night and you pul out a torch, the light has 3d effects on everything in the zone of light. It bounces off of the little divots and bumps in the paths, off of passerbys faces, on the grass.... it's amazing.

And there are thousands, THOUSANDS of items in the games. Plates, tongs, cups in farmhoues. Vials, torches, hammers and calipers in dungeons. TONS of things to do.

And, the game is graphically superior to anything I've seen in my life. Climbing a mountain to see the setting sun down behind the imperial city....

It's so amazing. I WANT TO OWN THIS GAME!

So what! I wanna get out! 'Cos there's so much out there! So many different people, living different lives! Incredibly good guys, bad guys... Folks completely different from us! It's one huge melting pot! See, it's not about success, dying in the streets, who's better, who's not! I just want to be a part of it! I realized that even if I've no connections, no talent, even if I'm one big loser, I want to use my hands and feet to think and move, to shape my own life! We can just die here or we can try, see what we've got!

This game has to be one of my favorite games ever.
I remember when I first got it for 360, once I left sewers I just literally walked around town and going through caves for hours to come. I rented it twice straight and ended keeping it for a total ammount of a month haha.... Played about 100+hours even thought I beat the game story wise at around 60 hours....

such a good game... If only i had a good PC id get it for the construction set....

OH GOD! That must be like killing yourself, having it but cant run it  :D

Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows XP 64-bit
512MB System RAM
2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
128MB Direct3D compatible video card
and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver;
8x DVD-ROM drive
4.6 GB free hard disk space
DirectX 9.0c (included)
DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
Keyboard, Mouse

It could be worse, but the processor is what kills it, they reccomend a 3 Ghz processor...I mean, how many people have one.

my friend who recently bought a $1800 computer :/ (Oblivion runs brilliantly on his computer, btw)

I might consider buying it, seeing as my computer barely meets the minimum requirements, but I'm afraid that would just be butchering the experience.

Ok guys this game looks freaking awesome, but slight problem, my rents are super crazy about me playing M rated games, (this is no my PC) and they would know lol if I came in one day in installed a new game on the PC lol as they work on it every day.  I might be able to sway them with some talk but I need to know, why is it rated M?

It doesnt need to be that powerful to run it on full... I have the game on full settings and 1024x768 at 32bit color and it runs at 72fps (even in the detailed parts of the game...). My specs:

2.4 AMD 64
1gig RAM PC 3200
Radeon X800 XT with DirectX 9.0c
1x 250gb HD 7200rpm
16x DVD-RW
Windows XP Pro

That and some dumbass hacked the game and found a folder with topless woman skins:
Warning, this link contains topless woman. It is not pornographic neudity but it is realistic.
