Well, a lot of said Super Mario 64 is the crappiest game they've ever seen. I don't believe it through my eyes.
This was the one game that caught my attention till the end of the game. What other games have all those missions for stars and tons of worlds to explore?
I thought the detail to everything was amazing, and overall it was a great game.
What's your opinion on SM64? Good? Bad?
And if it's bad, I'd like to know why it is such. If it's not your type of game, then I understand that.

Dude, are you kidding me? I don't think anyone besides Sony fanboys hated SM64. Oh yeah, 9 year olds too. I loved the games, and thought that it was fun even to play around and just jump off walls. It is the definition of classic.

Once I get some money I'll get it on the virtual console, but I never got the N64, I got the Zelda collectors addition later on and just had fun with my SNES.

Actually, I honestly do hate Super Mario 64.  Sure, it was the first 3d platformer that "started it all" and "set the standard", but it's a fuckin horrible game.   I really really really hate it.

Super Mario 64 is an exercise in perfection.

Edit: On the N64 at least.  :P The DS version is an exercise in bastardization!

Well, masterpieces are usually deeply hated and deeply loved.
Anyways, It was my first game and I spent many hours playing it.
I loved it! It was big and I just enjoyed the time playing it.

The only way that I could hate it is by saying it started the trend of 3D platformers - the worst thing to ever happen to Gaming.

It's thanks to SM64 that the Donkey Kong games have become a pile of crap, such a shame given the amazing DKC series on the SNES. What I wouldn't give to play a good new 2D platformer again..........

Having said that, SM64 was a fun game - the only fun 3d platformer ever, IMO.

I think the DS version is better in every way
controls are better, and the engine is much more solid. I replayed the N64 version after the DS version, the n64 seems so damn slow, like you're under water or on the moon or something.. plus I always hated Mario's model in sm64

only thing I would've liked was some better utilization of the new characters

Super Mario 64 was the second game I ever owned, and the first adventure game I ever owned. I've never enjoyed a game more than I enjoyed Super Mario 64. Being a younger gamer, and not owning a NES or SNES, Super Mario 64 was that game for that got me into video games, just that sort of game that only a child could adore. I still adore it now, even if it's control mechanics have been perfected in more recent games, it was a gem back then, and through that, it remains a gem now.

Super Mario 64 DS was a nice revisit to the world, and I think it was nice to re-experience it on the DS. The DS version is equally as awesome.

Hehe got it with my N64.. ah memories.. I really loved getting all the stars and all, didn't really like some of the smaller levels though. I only had a quick go on the DS version and the camera bugged me in a major way..

It was a good game, but the triple jumping was a little hard for me but this was back on the N64 unit, when I was really little.  But still I have some trouble with it, but I can pull it off nicly on my DS.

I loved it. And some people are saying they hate it because it became the builder of "platformer games"
It would've happend anyway, and have I seen a platform game better than Super Mario 64? The only one I know that comes close to it would be Chrash Bandicoot 1 for the PS1.

Hm, I wouldn't say there aren't any other good 3D platformers (Banjo-Kazooie and Croc jump to mind right away), but SM64 set the standard, and probably remains as the one with the best balance of collecting, not too much, and not too little.

My only complaint is that it's not quite as Mario-ish, as I'd like. It kind of re-defined the series and left behind things I enjoyed such as power ups (fire flower? cape? hammer bros. suit?) and a lot of the old enemy physics. I mean, there's like two Koopas in the whole game...and you ride their shells. As cool as it was, I'd rather just kick them at other enemies. Also, only having one Bullet Bill was a complete disgrace (luckily the DS fixed that).

I think they should just make a 3D platormer NES style, you know what I mean?
All the old attributes from the classic mario game would be put back into place.
THAT would be something worth playing.
