Entertainment / Lens of Truth Project
« on: January 15, 2014, 10:21:05 pm »
Hello... it's been a while! Just dropping in because I thought this might interest some of the people here. I recently started working on a "replica" of the lens of truth from OOT / MM.
Not sure why I picked the lens of truth specifically, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. So, I'll be posting progress photos here as I go.

Here are some of the basic parts I've got so far... red agates for the three stones sourced from China, the convex glass was sourced from Ukraine and used to belong to an old clock, and the brass rings are from the US.
I'm planning on making the handle and frame out of wood, dying it purple and finishing it with a clear gloss coat.
The glass will get a light spray paint job to tint it a bluish purple and to get the eye design on the glass. Wish me luck! :p Here are some photos.

Entertainment / The Garden of Words
« on: March 13, 2013, 09:31:01 pm »
I just saw the trailer for this and thought some of you here might be interested in seeing this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=udDIkl6z8X0
I dunno', it's been a while since there was a Makoto Shinkai anime out. It seems kinda similar in theme to 5 Centimeters per Second (and actually a lot of Shinkai's other works) but if you're a fan of his this looks like a pretty good release. I haven't heard about it getting any subs yet though...

Thoughts?

Audio / Majoras Mask Remix (WIP)
« on: November 05, 2011, 04:51:00 am »
Uuhh I actually haven't written any new songs in ages, let alone touch FL Studio buuut I kinda started playing around with it again lately and put this together. It's going to probably be a remix of Majora's Theme. I dunno, if anyone has suggestions or critique that would be great, I don't really know where to take it from here.

Audio / Music Preference
« on: April 10, 2011, 02:51:10 am »
Just interested in how people view video game music these days. I assume a lot of people will favor 8/16-bit music for its nostalgia and often catchy melodies. There's also the chance that people prefer "modern" video game music because it's impressive, high quality, recorded by a live orchestra, etc. There's any number of reasons for preferring one over the other and I suppose it depends on the game it accompanies, but in general, I think it would be interesting to hear what people have to say.

Entertainment / Timelapse Project
« on: March 24, 2011, 07:13:06 am »
I really had no idea which forum to post this in, but here... It's a tentatively finished project using photography and music I made (the music is old, video is new).
This was my first timelapse project so this is more of a ... warm up, I guess.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9THAGHt7wYA" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9THAGHt7wYA</a>

Also... it looks like it's being letterboxed here. Watch it on youtube if you want to see it.. larger..?

So, it took a little while to get everything uploaded and edited, but I'll start posting some photos from my trip to Vancouver. I'll just update the topic with more parts as I go...

Part 1: UBC Campus/Nitobe Garden

(The forum layout has an annoying wrap/scroll feature meaning you'll either have to drag the photos into a new tab/window or use the scroll bar at the bottom to see the whole photo).

Audio / Published Audio work!
« on: May 09, 2009, 05:09:45 am »
So I got an email today telling me that the game I had written some music and done the sound effects for, had been published recently on a fair amount of flash game sites. I'll leave a list here, but they said it should be easy enough to find in a google search. The game is called "Scrawlder" and it was put together by a Chinese game dev team. You can find it here:

Agame.com
Spel.nl
Jeu.fr
Spielen.com
Minigry.pl
Spel.eu
Giocaregratis.it
Zapjuegos.com
Clickjogos.com
Games.co.id
Flashgames.ru
Mygames.co.uk
Game.co.in
Egames.jp

Anyways, I guess I felt I should promote their work, and mine.. the game's alright, sometimes kinda hard but it's pretty decent. Just glad to see some work of mine published for once :P
Apparently they'll be putting it on a few other sites eventually. Comments and even criticism (though I can't really change things now lol) are welcome as usual.

Audio / New soundtrack
« on: April 11, 2009, 04:16:27 am »
So, it's been a while since I've worked on any major audio projects. I kept busy mainly with the odd job here and there for games doing music or sound effects, some of which got published, others may not have..

Anyways, lately I've been lacking inspiration and motivation to work on music, so I thought I could make a topic like this to organize myself in. Topics like these tend to help, I've noticed, such as the CR soundtrack topic. Just gives me a place to organize my music and such, and gives me at least a bit of drive to finish it off.

Most of the songs here will be old tracks that you might have heard before, some of them under new names, but I'll be continuously trying to increase the amount of new material here. The theme will generally be the same - somewhat ambient, eerie, Japanese (or at least East-Asian) inspired music. Why?
I haven't been working on any games for a while, but I've had a few ideas in mind I *may* attempt at some point far in the future. Because of this, there won't be a strict layout for this "soundtrack" and I'll keep adding tracks as they come along. Without further ado:

1. <a href="http://binaryphoenix.com/itohdaichi/Title%20Screen.mp3>Title Screen
2. <a href="http://binaryphoenix.com/itohdaichi/Akamagaseki%20Shore.mp3>Akamagaseki Shore
3. Hoichi
4. <a href="http://www.binaryphoenix.com/itohdaichi/Chrysanthemum%20Palace.mp3>Chrysanthemum Palace
5. Enryaku-ji
6. <a href="http://www.binaryphoenix.com/itohdaichi/Courtyard.mp3>Shrine
7. <a href="http://www.binaryphoenix.com/itohdaichi/Hanging%20Lanterns.mp3>Hanging Lanterns
8. <a href="http://www.binaryphoenix.com/itohdaichi/Kuromori.mp3>Kuromori (WIP)
9. <a href="http://www.binaryphoenix.com/itohdaichi/Rainfall.mp3>Rain
10. The Cloud and Water Guest
11. <a href="http://www.binaryphoenix.com/itohdaichi/kai.mp3>Province of Kai (WIP)
12. Mountain Pass

TLDR: The tracks in blue are finished or at least a work in progress, and can be listened to or downloaded. I'll be releasing all the tracks here for you to listen to individually as I complete them. This list will probably grow over time. As usual, comments and criticism, although there isn't much new material as of yet, is appreciated. Hopefully this will keep me motivated to write more music.

Graphics / Yokai
« on: February 16, 2009, 06:26:44 am »
This is the result of a couple hours of boredom...
It's a combination of several yokai/japanese ghosts/monsters with inspiration for the art style taken heavily from masters such as Hokusai, Sekien, etc. The kanji and hiragana both say "Yokai". The quality is pretty blurry/rough because it was kind of a quick shot with my camera. I'll see if I can get a version that retains the clarity of the paper version later.

Hmm I wrote another piece today. Not sure what I think about this. Anyways it's set kind of around late afternoon, and as the piece goes on it gets darker, etc. At least that's the idea I built the song around.

Audio / Taking requests for remixes/arrangements
« on: December 19, 2008, 04:42:29 am »
So yeah, I'm done school for about 2 weeks... and I've been wanting to really put some of that new gear I got to use. I'll take any requests to slightly remix, or 'update' older video game songs. I'd like to do Zelda requests mainly if possible but if there's anything else that comes to mind I can try it :p
I basically just want to try giving my own spin on some video game classics, and I'm open to suggestions. So... go ahead, request! :p

Yeah, I'm sorry there's yet another photography topic but this isn't food, and the other one kinda died. So I'll just start this off again I guess. Here's a set of 4 fairly creepy photos taken faaar in the basement of my house...

There was really no where else that I felt would be better to post this kind of random topic, however...

*H#(%*#(&#$&*(!!!

I just got possibly the most amazing deal on audio software I've ever seen.
The total software I got is basically worth $1000+, yet I got it (legally, obviously) for $100.

AmpliTube 2 Duo - Guitar Amp and Fx Modeling Software: $50
SampleTank 2 L - Sample Workstation: $300
T-RackS 3 - Compressors/Limiters/EQ/Mastering plugins: $500
ReTank - 3000+ loops/samples: $100-200

Needless to say I'm pretty stoked, as some of this is industry standard stuff, like the T-RackS. The other stuff of course is pretty amazing as well. Should be interesting to hear how this helps my audio quality ;p

Audio / Aqua
« on: November 16, 2008, 05:25:14 am »
So everyone in my band class had to write a short piece for school.. in rondo form. Can be any genre or already pre-made music, pretty much whatever as long as it fit into the ABACA format... which would explain why this is kind of short.

Anyways! Comments & criticism appreciated on the piece, thanks.

Graphics / HDR Photo
« on: November 03, 2008, 01:27:26 am »
Not sure if anyone knows what HDR is but it's basically 'high dynamic range', so you get a wider range of colours in some situations, or something. Anyways this is the first time I've tried it. You take 3 photos in the *exact* same place, each one either a 'normal' brightness, a dark photo, and a photo that's too bright, then blend the three so you capture the qualities of each. C&C?

Audio / Xmas Concert Song
« on: October 20, 2008, 01:52:33 am »
So I got asked to write another piece, this time it was a Christmas piece they wanted for the winter concert. I said I'd write it like, at the start of summer but just never started on it...
So today I woke up and wrote all this craziness in about 8 hours or so. There's so many things going on it's pretty insane. Anyways take a listen and let me know what you think.
Might want to turn the volume up too?

Audio / Autumn Tempest
« on: October 06, 2008, 10:51:45 pm »
Well it's fall again and this time generally has so many emotions I just *have* to write a song about it. Take a listen, C&C is welcome.

Autumn Tempest: http://www.box.net/shared/pc77504dr9

Forgot to mention, this is written, played by, and recorded live by myself. I'm still learning in regards to miking and post processing a piano though, so sorry if the quality's not amazing...
