We should have had a resource system years ago lol, its an idea i threw around in the past but no one really cared; I figured that i didnt have to bother as there were already significant collections around the place, and i could just navigate them.

As for what you've been saying Hyperhal, i think that should be something that sticks around after z3, ie we could have portal environment, with a page showing recent screens from fangames, and a page with random screens to view (click the screen=>takes you to the topic), and if we had a resource system, the most recent sprite(s) showing up in a little box for example. Also, something showing each of the completed fangames, with a short description, sortability, maybe ratings and reviews too (with a need of x posts to vote).

If we were to develop a resource system, we'd have to store it like a proper database; Map the storage elements to any arbritarily chosen view, orderable by Style, Type ( link, pnc, particle/explosion/fire effect, enemy, tiles, tiled-area, background environment etc), Size, format, Credit status ( editable with credit, non editable with credit, rip ) etc.

Any modern ideas to ZFGC-ize zfgc can't possibly be compared to GA: It was the opposite, taking things away from, not closer to, zelda fangame development.

Oh right, this looked like another one of those "OMG ZFGC IS GONNA DIE!!1!one!" threads...ok, this topic is worth having..

To improve ZFGC, have a resources section for sure - ZFGN had one and because of that it had links with many other sites. And please please please don't make the resources be content-managed by SMF o_O make a friggin' proper page haha.

Do a SHOWCASE (as in a careful selection) of FINISHED and CANCELLED games though - again like ZFGN. Don't do WIP, they don't deserve to be shown on the site site.

project X was to be like gamespot etc - I'm just saying do what ZFGN did, get sparks or someone to help. Really, it probably took them 10 hours tops to do what they did, and they got a lot out of it.

1- Loads of Game Maker tutorials (yeah, written stuff) by the experienced for the newbies...
2- A Sticky with something like: "The x Tips for making a game" - stuff like how to don't give up, to do small games, and useful stuff like that...
3- More acess to resources (A big, big archive, where a lot of people help, posting MC, LttP, GB graphics)
4- New themes :D (already on the way...)
5- A bit more hard rules (not that you hae to be with all cautions, but if you behave well, you don't have to care about 'em)
6- Closing of the SPAM board - C'mon that's so ridiculous, noob and little kid humour, where someone goes "OLO penis :)" and everyone "ROFLOLOLOL(...)LOLOLOLOL"
    And if the spammers complain, well, www.invisionfree.com, it's free, and it makes forums...
7- More competitions... (some official)
8- More original games...

We planned so many things in the past, like resource areas and a generally more dynamic forum, with shop / rpg type things and all sorts. It's just that we never got around to actually executing the plans. This is where we failed.

When I was in the staff, we generally had excellent ideas of how to improve ZFGC, we thought of things we could have done.. but we just never did them, either because we were just plain out lazy, or because we didn't actually have the time.

I think now is the time to put those plans into action. Take our time with executing these things rather than thinking it'll be quick. Progress isn't progress without time.

Anyway, there have been a few great suggestions in this topic, and Kirby, it's very generous of you to put some of your own time into creating themes and helping out. I know you haven't always been appreciated as much as you possible should have been :P.

Because I've finished college now, and am only doing part-time work, I do have quite a lot of free time. There are many things that I need and want to do with my time, but i'm happy to help out here when you guys need me, as always.  :)

Actually, I think it was finally triggered. Last night's discussion with the adminds and myself had went really well, and it seems that most of us were tired of failure, and that we NEEDED to succeed this time.

I don't know how it was different than the previous ones, but it seems like its finally getting started now.

The work should be open to a large team of people, with some form of technical administrator at the helm, directing things down to each of the team, who woul'd be told to do something based on what they have enlisted as being able to / willing to do, and  will then proceed to..well..do it!
