Hand pixelled. He's supposed to be "gripping" some invisble handles. Hence the "Hang on!" text that goes with the avatar.

I tried increasing the contrast more but I don't know how well it turned out. C+CPLX?

I love the cartoony style you gave to it, the colors are well chosen and the shading is great. Everything fits very well IMO, except maybe the mouth, that stands out a little too much, try darkening it?
