I meant to post this some time back but never got around to it, but anyway, here goes...

For the longest time I had a shitty PC gamepad that was actually worse than using a keyboard for emulation and such.  I could have picked up a nicer one of course, but I never had the extra money or the desire to actually buy another.  A couples months back I stumbled across a program called GlovePIE, (originally created for use with a virtual-reality glove, hence the name).  Over time it has added the functionality for almost any sort of computer input device to be used as a game controller, (even MIDI keyboards), and this includes the controllers for the 360, PS3, and Wii, (with or without the Classic Controller).  With the Wiimote or Sixaxis you can even assign the accelerometer axises to emulate those of a mouse or other keys, (very cool with flight-based games).

Anyway, it's free, easy to use, and it's worked fantastic for me, (I'm using it with my PS3 controller).  Keep in mind that if you're using a Wiimote with the program your computer needs to have bluetooth.  You can download, read about, and get instructions on how to use the program here:

This program showed me that my left analog stick is messed up  :'(

The analog is super sensitive or something, I just barely touch it and it thinks I'm going right.  I previously thought it was a problem with my Dreamcast emulator(the only program I was having difficulties in) but now I see it's the gamepad.  Does anyone know if I can fix this?

GlovePIE is great. I use it often to link extra buttons on my gamepad to say, save/load states in an emulator, toggle unlimited FPS, and so on, that would usually need me to press on the keyboard.

It's a little thing called Dead Zone. Your controller's fine.

I've never used Glovepie. Just find the dead zone setting and put it at 28 or so.

You buy an adapter for controllers that need them. Radioshack's a good place to look for PS2. I personally use 360 with XBCD since the USB port is convenient and the modified drivers own.

The default was 25, and 28 didn't work, so I just kept going higher until I got to 99 and nothing changed.

Well then you might be SOL. What kind of pad is it? Try using it on its original console if it's a console pad and see what happens.

What's SOL?

It's a GGE909 Recoil Gamepad for PCs.

*!@#$% out of luck

Honestly, there's not much you can do with a Recoil gamepad to make it better, they consistently fail.  I had that same gamepad before I found GlovePIE and started using my PS3 controller.  I had far too many problems with the Recoil's d-pad and analog sticks, they're just crap.

You don't have a current-gen system?

I have no systems, just a computer.

I'm thinking about getting either a Saitek p2600 Rumble Pad or a Saitek p990 Dual Analog Pad.  They both have a large amount of buttons  XD

Edit-I've decided on the p990, I've heard practically nothing bad about it and I don't like the rumble fuction anyways.  It's got enough buttons for playing N64 decently, something the recoil pad can't do, so I'm gonna go get it.
