Title: Zelda: HOTD - 1st dungeon and beyond demo
Post by: imfletcher on June 05, 2006, 11:09:15 pm
I haven't worked on this in months due to lack of motivation. Your response to this demo will make or break this project. Enjoy.

The demo goes a bit past the first dungeon and includes many side-quests. Save doesn't work and it picks up right where you would after navigating the menu screens. Dying will restart you with 0 hearts, normally this would bring you back to the title.

Controls:
z - sword
x - secondary weapon
space - talk
p - pause

Hmm the demo was pretty neat but it didn't show anything I haven't seen before. And those hearts on the HUD you use don't fit and why is there no music?

Well I must say that is very good, and I say that rarly about fan games. I've spent the last hour or so evaluating it, and apart from a few bugs in the engine, and the static-ness of maps (add some animation :P ), it's very good, fun and well though out.

What are you on about theres music everywhere <_<.

A very nice demo, i love the look and feel of the game, my only criticism is the hearts, they are a little big for it...

It was good, for what I played, but I couldn't figure out where to go. There wasn't many pointers and the story seems a bit rushed. Still, better then alot of what I seen.

Well I don't beleive in easy games. As for the story, the intro has very little to do what happens later. I just decided not to explain the whole thing at once.

How do you push stuff in the demo?

You need to find the bow, and shoot the blocks :P

@Imfletcher: The fire arrow, was a nice touch :).

Played the demo and it's great!  Some collisions need fixing but other than that it's perfect!

>.> I swear I posted here already. -_-
Here's a few bugs I found:
After you get dropped off at the docks, in the top right of the room you can walk through the mountain. A tile is not on the right layer, where the carpenters are working.  And also in the second room of the dungeon, theres a mouth and eyes, you can walk in a see yourself through the back of it.

I love how you did everything, such as the puzzles.  Although they weren't very easy to pick up on everything, but once I did I flew right through them.  Incredible job.  Love the fire arrow, although I found it wierd that you used the bow to push things.  I got to the boss, and died, so I tried to beat him with 0 hearts, but my many attempts failed, I'm sure if I had a save point I'd go back and beat him but it was late. The level mapping is done quite well too.

Yeah I'll be changing them eventually, graphics are not a huge prioirty right now though as I just want to get it done.

Hm, 20 in the town, 20 in the desert, and 5 in the jungle thus far. However, I know that there are a few (such as bank rewards) that you can't get yet.

I'll look into all of these, thanks.

That's one of the many throwbacks to my first Zelda game, Darkness Uprising.

Just bumping this (or more like gravedigging it) to say that I've resumed work again after my "vacation". I might have a new demo out soon, but I won't make any guarantees.

This is really good! It challenges the mind, and has some fighting in it! I can't wait for the finished product.

P.S. Is this the sequel to DU?

No, not really, though I did include a few references to DU in it. Also, it recycles many ideas that I was hoping to put into DU's sequel.

I played it a bit more and it is sooooo good! 9.9/10!!! the 0.1 off is because you had to talk to different jellyfish for the weapon to be changed. It would be a 10/10 if you made it so that things like maybe... A and D could switch weapons, and S to use it ;-)
