I am guessing that all of it is WIP.

What is WIP?  Hookshot is done.  Inventory is done minus the cursor and quest items.  File select screen is done.  Nothing I have really shown recently is WIP anymore in the sense that it could change.  The most major WIP is the Link sprites.

You mean that this game is close to completion?

No...I didn't say that.  What I have recently shown is done as in it's not being changed (ie, the feature shown in a screenshot is no longer a WIP feature).

I don't know how we got our wires crossed.  xD

The textbox system is still wonky.  Bombs and the Flute have been added and are functioning as they should.  I also worked on a few more Link sprites.  That's all for today!

Boots have been added(no screenshots :<) and are working as intended.  Link's movement speed is doubled and his animation is changed to a sprint instead of walk.  Unlike the normal Pegasus Boots of the Zelda franchise, I decided it would be better to move in all 8-directions at anytime instead of one direction until you lt go of the item key.

This will allow for speedier trekking across the overworld for later sequences in the game.

No programming updates.  I been working on the missing Link sprites.  Hopefully by the time I am ready to record a new video, most every action should look like Link somewhat.

Good luck with that, since you're using Secrets of Mana as a base.

No worries.  :)  I actually have alot done now.  tSR seems to be a little less harsher these days in how they give criticism and I already had someone show me how to improve the sprites.  Seems like it is more or less my shading on the sprites that is the worse.

As far as having some form of Link done in all 4 directions:
Standing
Walking
Hookshot
Placing Bomb
Flute
Sword
Get an Item

Many actions can be reused with either Hookshot or Placing Bomb animations with simple modifications.  Eventually, it will be just a matter of cleaning the sprites so they look more professional.  :)

Programming update:
The usable part of the lantern is done.  I still have to decide how I want to handle how the lantern illuminates dark places.  I am drifting toward LttP style with the black overlay light cut-out.  I don't think it should be like Zelda II where everything is magically lit.

This means that 5 of 12 usable items are now implemented in some way(Link's sprites are lacking for now).  All that is left to implement before I start working on leveling system is:
~Power Gloves
~Ancient Hammer
~Cane of Somaria
~Fire Rod(next on to-do list)
~Thunder Medallion
~the two empty bottles

No updates for a while.  Transitioning jobs right now so I have about 55+ hours of work a week and it drains me.  Once I am done with my old job, I should be at about 30 hours a week, which means I will have time to program again.  :)

Well, looks like it is time to start all over again.  Since Game Maker Studio was free for a time, I grabbed it.  I imported the gmk into it and many of the old functions are now defunct.

Should be relatively easy to translate the non-working gm8 code into GMS.  The benefits of moving to GMS are great as now I can keep resources on disk instead of directly in the exe, which says memory and load times.

Next update will have the new version.  God only knows how long this will take though.  I have a few days off during the week, so I should have something soon.

Is this the latest version of Game Maker Studio, or is it the one that gave a headache to the creator of The Legend of Zelda: The Horn of Balance?

Not quite sure which version Martin tried to use.  Any version of the new Game Maker Studio deprecates many the the functions of Game Maker 8(.x) and older.  I am sure with as huge as his game is that he would have major issues with deprecated functions.

I have two days off after today so hopefully I can get started on moving code over to Game Maker Studio Professional.  This also adds some opportunity to add new features and eye-candy with 3D, particles, and surfaces that I couldn't do with GM 8 Lite.
