Time makes fools of us all
Daisy Gimlet is one of those fools. Believing that she could make a living simply out of her gorgeous looks, she went through life remaining dense as a woodpecker, relying on her one feature to take her to levels above all else. Unfortunately, this greatness isn't timeless.

She was a photo model and actress, although a pretty lousy one, enjoying life as the soon-to-be richest person in the neighbourhood she eventually settled down to retire in together with her husband. She was only in her late 40's as she did that, and had given up due to a state that all the plastic surgery applied to her face and body had caused her to end up in. Merely her golden curls remained as beautiful as they had always been; they were the only things keeping her spirit alive, the only proof to her that she was still worth something.

"I'm afraid that I bring bad news" the doctor cautiously said, eleven years after her retirement.
Daisy's husband held his hand on her shoulder as the doctor looked through his papers. What was merely seconds felt like years, as both Daisy and her husband awaited the worst possible...
"Y-your hair..." the doctor stuttered, knowing who Daisy was and probably fearing her reaction "... has only months left to remain."
Daisy had been born with a disease that makes you completely lose your hair at an early age, but using the money she earned as a photo model while eighteen years old, scientists managed to complete a medicine to postpone this effect. Sadly, nothing lasts forever... The operation needed was out of the question, as it was expensive enough to put them in the trenches for the rest of their lives.

Daisy ended up in a depressed phase, and her husband noticed this. He only knew of one thing to do.
He had been lucky to keep his hair as well, but his genius idea was to cut it off and show sympathy to Daisy's horrible situation. As a caring husband, this was the only thing he knew how to do.
So he headed down to the barber's, even though all he needed was a clean shave...

Unfortunately, his hair was being cut by a radioactive barber!
He threw himself out of the barber's shop, writhing in pain on the street, holding his forehead. His hair was pulsating like a collection of blood veins, his teeth gnashed loudly, and he could only scream for help as his body went through a horrible transformation.

The Phantom Fringe had his goal set. He would get the money needed for his wife's operation. He would use his controllable, powerful, dynamic and stretchable fringe combined with his newly gained physical abilities to become the most feared thief across the corners of the world!

Hang-gliding, stopping bullets, lowering himself from ceilings to approach guards... Nothing and no one could stop him. All of the world's grandest treasures were sure to be his.

Two competitions a year can't be too much, can it? I mean, we could have summer and winter winners, or something like that.

Just sayin'. I don't think anyone here lacks the imagination to come up with the double amount of interesting characters, that's for sure. :P

ZFGC Character Competition 2007 / Good game, people!
« on: August 08, 2007, 07:16:16 pm »
Greetings, fellahs!

I made it pretty far with The Nevermind. I mean, Flood Division winner isn't bad at all, is it? :P
Though Hane finished me off with a roundhouse kick in the groin, I've definitely learned a thing or two about these kinds of competitions, and next year, I'll be back more powerful than ever. To be honest, The Nevermind was a last-minute submission, because I found out about the competition barely a day before all characters were supposed to be posted. :P
Fear me, haha!

I'm surprised by the amount of well-made characters as well; Chopik, Hane, Mr. Wrong, Ninja-Zombie, Fissure,  Cedris, Minish, Acolyte and more, much more. At first, I doubted I'd make it past the first round, but I did. Same with the second and third one, though I'd be pretty toasted if I was placed in the Inferno division. XD

Here it ends, then. There's only one round left, then bam! Compo settled! :D (to be honest, I can't wait till next year)
Good luck to Hane and Mr. Tommy Wrongkudan! And good-bye to me, perhaps, since I'm not much of a forum person and probably won't be very active on the boards... unless you make contests. I'll be on 'em like a bunch o' flies on a cow butt.

NEW ART at the end of this post, abilities among the others
Greetings! This is my contribution for this contest; I was quite unaware of the other characters entered, so he might be a little different than them all, but anyway... Here he is.
The Nevermind
Real name: Richard Ryans
Age: 30
Description / background:
The year is 2035. A crazy man named Lord Everett Evermind has the world in a tight grip. Everyone knows about him, everyone hates him, but due to his power, no one has the guts to face him. But the reason he's hated is currently just because of his obsession of flamingos, which has recently covered the entire world. Oh, the horror!
What the people don't know, however, is that he's planning something more horrible than that...

Richard Ryans lives an unhappy life; he has no family or friends, and his boss keeps bombing him with deadlines at work. What should a 30-year-old red-haired man do? Getting hit by a car isn't the most obvious solution, but that's what happens anyway, whether he wants it or not.

Ryans hates to leave work unfinished, and that's what he'd do if he stayed dead the time he died. Devon mcDevil lets him return to earth to complete this task, on one condition; he has to kill himself directly thereafter, or else terrible things will happen. Ryans returns, finishes his work but ignores the deal. He's going to get to hell anyway, so why would he be in a hurry? Devon mcDevil is truly pissed; he can't let such a thing leave a spot in his protocol. He decides to keep sending curses to Ryans from hell, wishing that they will kill him, or at least torture him enough for him to commit suicide.

This would've worked, if the gates of hell weren't placed next to a radio station. The curse waves get corrupted and transmitted wrong, giving Ryans all kinds of mystical and odd abilities. Using these abilities, the ex-worthless half-old peep decides to fight Lord Evermind under the secret identity of... "The Nevermind".

List of 13 of The Nevermind's super abilities (Devon mcDevil keeps casting those curses, which means that they practically never end):

¤ He can fire spider-webs out of his ears; never one ear at a time, however.

¤ Whenever he falls asleep, he turns into a dragon. When he wakes up, however, he turns back. He doesn't know about this ability; only his roommate, Josh mcIntyre, knows it. He keeps The Nevermind's alternate identity a secret, and also becomes Ryans' first pal. Whoa!

¤ If water reaches his feet or hands, a raging rhino comes running from the closest phone booth. Because of this, he wears gloves and boots made out of rubber to keep him and his surroundings safe.

¤ Whenever he gets body contact with a woman, he falls back in time ten minutes. This curse actually turned out kind of evil; good work, Devon!

¤ If he is hit by a snowball or a water balloon, gravity lets him down and he levitates away like a helium balloon. It stops after a few minutes. He keeps a water balloon in a bag, which he always carries with him, just in case he gets stuck in a pit or something.

¤ He can nearly completely delete friction from his body; while it grants him infinite slippery, he can't do anything while in this "mode". On the other hands, he can't be picked up, shot, squished, sliced, blown up or anything like that. This story isn't completely scientifically correct, so spare me such comments.

¤ If a tree falls in the woods and nobody's there to hear it, he will. That is, when someone speaks to himself, that one might also speak to The Nevermind.

¤ If he picks his nose, his pre-school teacher will appear in some way. The odd thing is, she is not surprised that she got there; she's always there for a reason, and thereby not teleported there.

¤ By running and tripping, gravity will once again let The Nevermind down as he starts to fall east instead of down. That is, horizontally instead of vertically. This could be useful if he wants to hunt criminals quickly, but thinking that he is not flying, but falling, the landing can be quite painful. Youch. Therefore, he sometimes carries a parachute in a backsack with him.

¤ He can move his centre of gravity as he likes. This means that if he falls out from something, all he has to do to get up is to lay his finger on the edge, move his centre of gravity to it and easily throw himself up, because his body weighs so little. Also, he can become hard to push to the floor by moving it to the bottom of his feet. Or easy to push to the floor, if he wants to.

¤ If The Nevermind dies... Oh my gosh, big spoiler alert.

¤ By laying down on the floor with his arms and legs straight out (making him look like a cross), the floor will crumble apart if it's mostly made by wood. Touching.

¤ By pushing his Adam's apple in, he can change his voice to the one of another person. The bad thing is, he can only imitate women.

How does he find out about all of these abilities, then? Some of them has got to be hard to find out about. Tricia Float, a young professor studying the mysterious waves coming from somewhere near the radio station, has written down every ability The Nevermind has. She sometimes co-operates with him, but never shares the whole list.

And what about the goldfish, you might ask? That goldfish has ended up in the same situation as Ryans; fleeing from mcDevil, bombed with curses. Ryans wins the fish, Gooplet, at an amusement park, and soon finds out about one of her abilities; to talk every time someone asks her a question. They become close friends on the quest to secretly finish Lord Evermind off... and possibly, to try to not make it feel like a job doing it.

But the flamingoes are watching them...
//End of description

I know there's a lot to read, but yeah... Right.

Update: I don't know if people is all up-and-go at all about The Nevermind, but in any case, I've made a support banner. Just to have one. Ya.

Graphics / Custom styled Link - Comes with beard
« on: February 23, 2007, 07:41:57 pm »

Yeah, so I sat down and decided to get spriting for once in a while. I've been stuck to vector art for so long it could actually be pretty darn exciting, so here it is; my first sprite (not really, but at least my second. The first one has been sent to ArcticFerret's spriting contest).

I tried. I don't like the sideviews, nor do I like how the arms turned out in the front-view, but I tried. :P
I'm probably not going to change this one; maybe, maybe not. But please, take your time and leave a comment for the next time. Otherwise, I'll never reach perfection. ;D

Ahoy, there!

Yeah, it's the guy from one of my previous creations, "The Ultimate Hero", or whatever it was called. :P

It's all in there. I'm adding a poll to see what your opinions are like.

Enjoy, or something! :D

Hello, there!

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/41057325/

Straight on to the thing, this is a character design for a book that my friend is making. If he accepts this, I will be making one scene for every chapter of the story. Exciting, indeed. :)

Graphics / Just a little art...

Hello, there! Last day, I started (and finished) a picture of mine, which consists of my blue avatar-thing and an adventure so big your beard will shave itself! Armed with nothing but a rosty sword and a magical cheese slicer, our hero travels through the land of Lord Cheese, or something like that. Uhm... It's just a picture anyway. :P

Enjoy!

Graphics / Spoofing Four Swords Adventures
« on: September 04, 2006, 06:20:30 pm »
Hello! I'm kind of new to this forum, and, well, to be honest, I've been checking ZFGC out kind of often without having the thought of actually registering, since I'm most interested in the very games posted here. :P

Ah, well. This time, I had no choice but to register, as I've decided to maybe start a project of my own. A game? Nope, sorry. It's a flash movie. A parody, to be precise. It's spoofing the game "The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures", where, as many of us know, Link pulls a magic sword and gets his body split in four exact copies of himself.

In the original Four Swords, we found no difference at all between the four of 'em (except for the colours of their clothes). They were exact clones, and a parody with four identical characters? No way! That's out of the question!

But then, on this very great day, a Gamecube-version of the game was released by the name of Four Swords Adventures, and I fell in love. The action, the puzzles, the graphics... All in up to four players! And, in difference to Four Swords, the four Links were a little different from each other; they're voices.

It hit me. Why would four clones have different vocal cords? I thought that perhaps changes could be, but what about if every one of the Links would change in not just pieces inside of their throat, but the entire body!

So, yeah! Here we have it! My artwork for the movie(s)!

Link to a bigger, and much better quality, image:  http://img303.imageshack.us/img303/6868/fourswordslinksyq5.jpg

I based their heights on their tone of voice; the lower the voice, the taller the character!

Link
Being the unfortunate guy who got tricked by a crazy shade-version of himself (artwork coming soon) to pull the Four Sword, Link is now left with three odd companions in a quest to save princess Zelda and Hyrule from Ganon, the evil piggy (artwork coming soon as well) and Vaati (him too).
Out of the four heroes, Link is the quiet and neutral guy, but even though the leader of them all. One of the two main characters.

Red
Red is the cowardy version of Link. Often used by Blue, as he is small, weak and easy to throw. Great to press buttons with, especially if they're hard to reach. Always hiding behind Purple.

Blue
At first, Blue seems like the typical indifferent and bitter person. But later on, he finds out about the dark secret of the Four Sword. That secret says that when the Four Sword has fulfilled it's mission, Red, Blue and Purple will be sent back into the seal forever. He secretly works against Link, to kill him and perhaps his fellahs, and take his place as the hero of Hyrule.
Short said, Blue is the evil clone.

Purple
Brave, strong and dumb, but his heart might be just as big as his muscles. He always takes on the bad guys and offers himself whenever there's a problem. He's truly the brave guy.

Well, I'm not quite sure if this is an idea to use. Hard to tell. I quite like it, and it's the best Zelda-parody I can come up with. What do you guys think? Should I make this?
Thanks!
