Matches / General Guidelines

Welcome to the 2012 ZFGC Character Competition!

The matches have officially started! Here are the basic guidelines when voting for a character:

-Please read both characters' descriptions and not simply vote based off of who's picture is the prettiest. The images are essential and important but should not be the sole reason why you're voting for a character.
-Who made the character should not matter. There are some with more than one character in the competition, but please realize that the winner of the competition is a character, not a user.
-The polls will only show results when they have expired, which is 3 days. This will prevent biased votes: some people have a tendency of voting for the majority.
-The winner of the match will be the character with the most votes.

The young being known as gm112 is a basement dweller who resides in Narnia, I mean the village of Ohio, USA. He has an incredible talent to spawn code out of the palms of his hands. However, he spends most of his time improving his skills to troll the masses. You see, at night, he actually turns into a giant, hairy, troll; a giant troll who derps while he trolls and trolls while he farts. This means that he's trolling 100% of the time, 70% of the time. Legend has it that he once fought a giant orc named Timberberry Homingis. This battle lasted all of 68 hours. But you may ask, how does one who transforms back into a human during the day stay permanently a giant hairy troll? Well, Timberberry Homingis had a powerful "permanent troll-transformation" aura that surrounded him.

gm112 couldn't fight the orc alone. He had to summon his two heroic friends for help by farting through several tubes of the internets. These two friends were internet-renowned for their strength and e-peen size: Gorgosteve Calahandra, the mighty paladin of derp, and Heimmerashen Watherfare, the female witch with an e-peen size bigger than any male's on the internets. With the ball-crushing, manhood-tearing skills of Heimmerashen and Gorgosteve's holy aura and Hetfield magics, the giant orc fell and the realm was cleansed of its mighty tyranny.

How does he train these skills during the day as a helpless human being? Well, he takes to the internets and trolls MG-Zero. You see, programmed into his brain is an infinite loop:

Since MGZero derps infinitely, this loop never breaks, hence causing his RAM to be fully occupied. gm112 has a constant, overpowered pointer to MG-Zero, and if this bond were ever to break, a null pointer exception would raise and gm112 would no longer live. Equally, gm112 thinks Star is the table; not just a table, THE TABLE. His favorite show is Blues Clues.

Hello!

Just a quick reminder that today, I will be technically cutting off submissions for the contest. We have 14 entries, and my goal is to have 16. As it stands, gm112 and someone else have these two positions secured and will be submitting soon.

The competition will actually start NEXT WEEK. I need time to sort the matches out aaaand considering I'm in ultra serious mode at my job, I will most likely not have time during the week.

I look forward to seeing how this turns out XD

Due to the lack of contestants this year, I will allow the entry of two characters per user (as long as they are appropriate *cough* Homozygoat *cough*). I will also allow a 2-week extension (June 24 instead of June 10) for character entries.

Welcome to the rebirth of the annual Character Creation contest of 2012!

For those who are new, this contest has been around since 2005 and hasn’t been run for a while due to general inactivity on the forums. Now that we have a fresh batch of new members, we have decided to start up the competition in full!

So what exactly is the character creation contest? Well, it’s simple: you create a character, display it to the forums, and then let them fight to the ultimate death for the glory of the #1 spot!

This board is dedicated to general questions for the contest. Here’s a description of the child boards:

CHARACTERS BOARD
This is where you will create your character and campaign them. Feel free to be as artistic as you wish. A picture and a minimum of 150 words of description are needed. A user may only have one character in the competition. The preferred format for images is .png. Please keep in mind that we on Staff will review submissions in this board. When we approve your submission, we will write an [APPROVED] tag in the title of the thread. If your character is generally inappropriate (use common sense, review the rules, or ask to have your submission reviewed by a staff member) then we will simply lock the topic and add a [REJECTED] tag.

MATCHES BOARD
When the competition starts, this is where the matches will take place between characters. There will be a systematic way of dividing the characters once the characters are all submitted. The way voting works is by polls at the top of a thread. You may only vote once per match. When a character is defeated, there will be a [DEFEATED] tag added to the character’s thread in the Characters board.

We have come up with a list of dates to follow for the competition:
 
  • SUNDAY, JUNE 10TH: You have until this date to come up with a character and post it in the Characters board. After this date, we will assemble all characters into divisions and prepare the matches! Please keep in mind that if you are a day or two late, we will indeed accept your entry, but we encourage you not to wait until the last minute ;).
  • SUNDAY, JUNE 17TH: This is when the matches will begin! Wee!!
The #1 rule should be to HAVE FUN! To see previous character entries, please refer to this link: (this is where Basniak puts a link n’ !@#$%)

Some personal favorites include Kanye East (2010) and The Fartriloquist (2008)!

Coding / OpenGL Help

Hey guys,

So I'm writing a program in C++ with OpenGL (GLUT) and I require assistance since I'm still new to all of this.

I'm basically drawing 2D squares, right? So I draw my little points and it fills out a green or gray square, depending on what I need. However, I would like this square to kind of display on a slant/diagonally (almost looking like a diamond). This really only needs a slight rotation.

How does one rotate a square without it having like, rotating all the time? I just need to turn it a little and it should be fine.

Okay, so I've decided to start this thread mainly because I noticed DJ also follows this anime. I gotta start with I FREAKING LOVE THIS ANIME SO MUCH! It brings on the lulz.

Why did I start watching this? Well, mainly because of the music and stuff. I haven't really watched an anime with musical instruments involved (that's right guys, I haven't watched Haruhi yet, don't kill me).

I just want to know what your favorite moments of K-ON! have been so far! Here are mine:

-the teacher/advisor of the Light Music Club. She's so freaking awesome.
-the scenes in Episode 3 or 4 where Yui's rolling around on her bed reading manga and giggling.
-freaking out Mio.

That's all I got right now. Who's following?!

I'm sure most of you haven't even heard of Moonsorrow, and are probably wondering why I'm posting this.

Just two days ago, Paganfest Pt 2 (Swashbuckle, Blackguard, Moonsorrow, Primordial, and Korpiklaani on the list of bands) was set in Montreal at a local concert venue. I personally went with a friend and it was freaking amazing.

I just heard of this today through another friend who went to the show. It seriously makes me rage for so many reasons! First off, these guys played an amazing set and they are not douchebags. Second, they are not even from North America; they are from Finland. Why the hell would somebody do this to foreigners, let alone people in general?

That ESP custom guitar is fairly expensive. Actually, what makes the person sink lower than stealing an expensive piece of musical equipment is the fact that he stole somebody's personal belongings!!! This makes me rage so hard!

The population of Montreal should not be portrayed like this. Urhjghjghjg I'm sorry I'm just raging so hard at how ridiculous this situation is. I seriously hope they get their equipment back and that they consider coming back. If they don't come back to Montreal for something this stupid I will be so disappointed. I love these guys so much.

Point of this topic: can everyone please keep a look out on Craigslist or eBay to see if that custom ESP guitar is put up for sale somewhere and email the band please? I'm also keeping a look out.

Character Biography
A beast of wonders, this crimson-furred monster of sorts is the most powerful of his kind. Ntharcan has been mistaken over the years for the frumious Bandersnatch. Is he actually the Bandersnatch? Of course not.

Ntharcan is a mythical beast known for having a hunger for souls. He serves as a container of souls for Death. When Death takes a soul, It feeds it to Ntharcan and Ntharcan thus gets his energy from the thousands of souls in his stomach. That's a lot of energy.

Death found Ntharcan as a baby on one of his quests for souls. The baby beast was at some of its last breaths of air. When Death's eyes fell upon the once adorable little beastling, It could not help but take It in its arms. Death fed the little beastling the only food It had at the time: a soul. After eating the soul, the little beast suddenly absorbed nutrients from it. Unlike humans, the energy never wore off. Death was intrigued, and kept the little beast as a companion. Death assumed that since its energy never wore off, the soul would never escape the beast's body.

After feeding more souls to the little beast and watching the beast grow and never lose its energy, Death gave it a name: Ntharcan. Since Ntharcan grew to become huge and mighty, Death decided that Ntharcan would serve It on Its quest for souls, and would keep the souls safe in his body.

FAQ
Is Ntharcan a furry?
NO. He is BEAST.

How does Ntharcan retain all that energy?
It is not known yet, but he somehow keeps all souls fed to him in his body and continuously gets energy from them.

Why did Ntharcan team up with Edward Cullen?
Edward Cullen serves as an icon for many girls. Since girls are not usually too fond of scary beasts, this helps Ntharcan in the election. i.e., Edward Cullen is hot and attracts attention.

Why is Death referred to as "It"?
Death does not have a gender.

Does Ntharcan like TACOES?
He doesn't know. He only eats souls.
