Seriously, almost every time you make an edit in it you make the mistake of having them non-equal height. The main-page keeps bouncing up and down, it's annoying D:

Plx fix kthxbai.

Has anyone noticed that there's like at least 2 anti-fad topics/posts for every fad topic?
Can't we just all ignore topics we don't want to read? Another thing is that often the same people who have complained have also been the one feeding posts to said fad-topics and thus keeps them ranked high. Why not just ignore them and they will eventually rot with the other topics in the grave?

Sorry.
It's bugging me.

(And yes, I realize the irony of doing an anti-anti-fad-topic myself ^.^)

Characters / <DEFEATED> Open Girlfriend
« on: July 11, 2007, 01:41:23 pm »
Open Girlfriend
Created by Sol (idea) and Venus (all the hard work >_>).

Description:
Open Girlfriend was created as an idea around the end of 2005 by two (mad) scientists. They wanted to develop semi-artificial humans that could be speedgrown to an appropriate size for the "user" (with lack of better words). The project would have a developing-model not unlike the one so called open source and free software projects have, so the user would be free to modify the girlfriend for his (or her) needs (read about the four freedoms below). Anyway, in 2006 they added the project on SourceForge.net (http://sourceforge.net/projects/opengf/), and the development rate was very fast. Already the second day in July this year (2007) they released the source for the first prototype (v1.0rc1), which was based on Sols desires (one of the scientists). A photo of it's base can be found here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/opengf/download/.

Of course, that's just a prototype. An open girlfriend can really just look about anything, and there has been quite a few modifications around the world. But there's not really good photos of them (and everyone else's taste sucks).

Open Girlfriend's Four Freedoms:
  • The freedom to use the girlfriend, for any purpose (freedom 0).
  • The freedom to study how the girlfriend works, and adapt her to your needs (freedom 1). Access to the DNA is a precondition for this.
  • The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor satisfy his or her needs (freedom 2).
  • The freedom to improve the girlfriend, and release your improvements to the public, so that the whole community benefits (freedom 3). Access to the DNA is a precondition for this.

FAQ
Q: How do I start?
A: Download the source and compile it in the GNU Compiler Collection port included (gogfc). Print out the result in our special writer (driver source included) and put it in a glass of water with a lot of salt over the night. When it's starting to look like a small embryo put it in a larger bowl and so on. In about two weeks you will have a fully grown human, which you can shape a little (although, everything in the DNA can't be changed anymore). As long as it's in a salty water enviroment it will speedgrow, the earlier you take it out, the younger it will be.

Q: How much salt do I need? And how much does it usually cost?
A: It depends on for how long you want to speedgrow it. For a healthy baby you need on average 10 kg salt. For an adult or late teenager you would probably need in the hundreds of kilograms. The cost varies. Usually a couple of grands for an adult. Then there's aftercosts, when you have to take care of it.

Q: Yeah it worked! But mine looks exactly like your prototype and apparently it likes ducks a lot, how do I change it?
A: You need to change the source before you compile it. It can't be changed after it's compiled, duh, that's why we provide the source code.

Q: I don't want my gf anymore. Can I dump her?
A: Yes, you can dump it, but you can't dispose it (legally at least). You'll have to find someone that wants it and give/sell it away. Good luck.

Q: Is this right to do?
A: What do you think?

Q: That last answer was a question.
A: And your question was a statement.

Feedback / Look, those ads needs to stop!
« on: May 04, 2007, 04:19:32 pm »
Seriously. A long time ago we had no ads. That was beautiful times. Then we got ads, and that's because the lack of money and those Google text ads wouldn't hurt that much. I remember a poll where members voted if they wanted ads on the pages as long as the ads were text-based. A couple of month ago (if not earlier) I started to see image ads. I though, oh well, I'm used to that stuff anyway, it's on like every other site.

Today I saw the first Flash ad.

Fine, I agree that we could have some ads to milk out some money for the forums, but seriously; NO FLASH ADS, and preferably no image-ads either.

Please listen to me. Thanks.

P.S. Please no "use a firefox adblock extension"-excuse either please. I prefer have as few extensions as possible and I won't block domain names.

Other Discussion / Special Keyboard
« on: April 08, 2007, 03:02:24 pm »
I'm not sure how to explain this. But I'm wondering if there are keyboards, and what they are called, that can change the symbols on the physical buttons on the keyboard when you change the character layout. So for example when I use Swedish layout it displays all the symbols for that layout, and when I use English or American layout it changes to those symbols and so on. The reason I need this is because I change between layouts when I write in different languages but my keyboard still looks like an ordinary Swedish keyboard (so the actual symbol printed is not the same as the one displayed on the button). As it is now I can only see the layout in software in a window, but it would be really cool if the hardware keyboard actually changed.

I really hope you understand how I mean >_____>;;

Feedback / [fixed] Online/Offline
« on: March 11, 2007, 07:13:23 pm »
Maybe not really a bug but more of a... well, it just looks odd. Well, the ONL/OFL lamp would be better if it looked more like this:

Online
Offline

Instead of always saying "online" with a lamp.

Also, the two icons are not similar. They are different sizes so the text get offset by some pixels, plus the handle is not transparent in the online one.

Entertainment / Super Mario 4 for NES/Famicom?
« on: March 06, 2007, 10:15:06 pm »
Today I somehow reminded myself of a game I played long ago. I probably have had it since, well, since my parent got a NES for me when I was like... two or something (I probably didn't play it until years later). It's a Mario game, which seems to use a converter, probably because it's NTSC and I have a PAL system. The cartridge has black Japanese (I think?) symbols (that I can't read) and behind them is giant red Roman numbers saying IV (4 in Arabic numbers). Also it states "PUSH SELECT GET GAME." with more symbols above it.

I can't seem to find anything about it on Wikipedia or even Google!

The gameplay includes being able to roll yourself into a ball (can be used on some levels to fly with flippers as in a pinball game) and also became tiny so you can go through small passages. You can play as both Mario and Luigi. There are 8 worlds and there are sorta an overworld for all worlds and then you go into levels (kinda like a simplified SM3) with a boss on the last level (if I remember correctly). That's all I can remember right now.

It's late here right now, and I have school tomorrow. Otherwise I'd try to find the symbols in a character map and write them here. I'll have to do that tomorrow. I'll also try to get a scan of the cartridge, and even a video of the game play (I have an antenna input on my computer) ASAP.

Tell me if you know anything about it. Is it really that rare? :o

Entertainment / *TP Spoilers* Hyrule Geography
« on: March 06, 2007, 10:48:04 am »
Well. I noticed some things in TP:
1. The house that burns down in Kakariko (when you kill the dark bug). Well, do you remember the weird house in aLttP's Kakariko, with no roof? Could they be the same? Although, it would be ignoring the fact that it's not the same Kakariko since they are on different places relative to other places (such as Death Mountain, and the Castle)
2. Mother and Child Rocks. Could they be what becomes Mother and Child Isles in tWW? Ignoring the fact that the rocks are rather small (I can't even figure out what IS the rocks in Zora's domain)

In all games you can match the geography of Hyrule in some way, by just rotating stuff a bit. Zelda 2 is located northeast of Death Mountain and is called "North Hyrule". In Zelda I you just see south eastern Hyrule with a forest in the south east, a graveyard that could be a former Kakariko and a Death Mountain in the north. There seems to be two Lost Woods at different places in the series (although, one of them is called Forbidden Woods, I'm not sure?). Also, Kakariko seems to have moved (remember it was under construction in OoT). One thing that bugs me is that Zora's Domain in TP is way out of place too. In all other games it was far to the east on Death Mountain (both on Zelda 1 and aLttP) and goes down in rivers through Hyrule (out to Lake Hylie, although not visible on Z1). And where do you think the area around Eastern Palace fits in? I can't figure it out. Could've been a plain before?

Let's discuss about the geography of the Zelda series (and particularly those set in Hyrule) and how they match (and don't match! and try to explain it). I guess some theories about chronology in the Zelda games can be added too. (Although if it's becomes too much I will add "and Chronology" to the title)

« on: August 01, 2006, 09:16:46 pm »
Well, when the New Box fade to another size in Firefox it causes the whole page to move a bit and it's pretty annoying <.<

Plus, the "new global rules" aren't that new anymore ;)

Other Discussion / -_- Shitty Connection... (among other problems)
« on: August 01, 2006, 05:54:08 pm »
Maybe or maybe not you have wondered why I haven't been online the last 48 hours or so (since I'm here on daily basis you know <.<). Well, I have been upgrading my computer (Gainward GeForce 6800 Goes Like Hell, new motherboard, and new power supply = $200), and now my Slackware Linux partition wouldn't boot. To be perfectly honest I could just give it some time and try to fix compability issues (fixing drivers and such) but no, I'm lazy. I decided to install ubuntu instead and well, then it appeared I was locked out from my secondary harddrive (300 GiB of data x_X), since I couldn't use my original username, or user-id. Thanks good video rendering works flawless though (compared to my Slackpart). Now I just thought I would need to change the userpermissions on the harddrive (through root) and then I can start to install all my programs again, but then there comes the problem that I only know how to do it through Konqueror and ubuntu doesn't have that preinstalled. So I started to download it... and it goes 20 kb/s (being several megabytes). Sucking up all the bandwidth because there apparently is something wrong with my internet connection today I'm currently browsing the forums at 200 BYTES PER SECOND. Luckily I have many of the images (including banner) cached now (after about 20 minutes loading, just the fairy images took some minutes). And this is supposed to be a 10Mbit connection >:(

I just hope everything gets fixed soon >_<

Entertainment / Super Mario Sunshine: hardest game on GC
« on: July 11, 2006, 08:33:41 pm »
Well, at least if you want to get all the stars.

I played SMS some years ago and went through the whole game and had after that 110 sunshine sprites. Yesterday I started play again (after more than one year) and got two stars by getting 100 coins on the last two stages with that objective left (the Harbour and the Beach). And today I got two more stars on the Plaza (the last two secret ones). The first one was easy, but the second was a PAIN! First I had to get Yoshi like a billion times because I kept falling of those damn boats going to the island >_< Finally I made it there, but then the minigame in the pipe on the island was even more pain. I lost all my lives (about 15!) and I had to start over from the very beginning (getting Yoshi with me to the island by boat yet again). Though, the second time I managed to get the shinesprite so I'm soo happy ^_^ (I've waited for this moment since 2003 :P)

Now I have 116 shinesprites of the 120 available in the game so I'm missing four, and they all are there if I get the last 38 blue coins in the game (I already have 2 of 40). I hate this game >_>

PS: No spoilers about what happen when you get all the stars!
