Thank god for contraceptives.

QFT.   This drives me insane.  Ever seen the rainbow 6: lockdown one with the 9 year old screaming at his mum about chocolate milk?

Entertainment / Re: Game series you give your life to defend?
« on: April 27, 2008, 06:32:05 pm »
Series:

Ico/SOTC
Jet Set Radio
Shenmue
Command and Conquer [except Generals, that made baby animals cry]
Half-Life
NiGHTs (the original.  The 2nd I'm only defensive about the gameplay for, they pretty much ruined a lot about the rest)
Xenogears/saga
Zone of the Enders
Deus Ex
Star Fox
Dark Cloud
Sonic Adventure
Zelda

Single Games:

Rez
Quantum Redshift
Otogi
...that's actually about it I think.

Debates / Re: Smoking ban in pubs/bars...are we serious?
« on: April 18, 2008, 04:03:37 am »
I agree, it's the business owner's right to decide what is done on THEIR private property.  That aside, have you heard about stage nights?  Apparently there's a loophole in a few states (or all of em) where it's legal to smoke in a bar or restaurant or other establishment provided you're an actor and you're in a performance.  So some bars are getting around the smoking ban by having 'stage nights' where all patrons are declared actors and bar is the 'stage'.

Personal Favorites (of 5 or 6)

The other ones I have are the generic ' !@#$% happens ' poster you can find at about any FYE, a george carlin poster, and some poster w/ death on it (also generic and from FYE).

There are a few obscure posters I'd really like, though the one I want most atm is:

JSRF, no doubt at all.

Actually, I'd play him at my own home-made game, called Vandavil wins, basically, no matter what, Vandavil wins. It's a great game in those situations.

Sounds like Calvinball.

But you're (the general you) blaming on someone who's not in charge. She ONLY did her job. She was told to stay at the counter and that's it. The whole store is to blame, and definitely it's owners/management/employers.

No, that's ridiculous.  You make businesses look completely unreasonable and illogical with that point of view.  They tell cashiers what to check id for, I remember reading an article awhile back describing that in most of these places even the computers warn cashiers to check id on M rated games.  It's a reasonable system, because if stuff like this happens, a cashier sells something that they're told they have to check id for, how does that make the retailer LOOK?  That IS her job, these stores make sure she knows it, because they get a lot of negative attention if there's any way they can be blamed for the sale, hell they'll even get blamed after all this.  Her job is to check ID, and only sell if they're the right age.  She won't get fired for not selling it, just like people at gas stations or ticket vendors at theaters aren't fired for checking id first, it makes the business look more respectable when they do that.  So that makes individual employees accountable when they do something like this blatently.

However, Jacko's an idiot.  He proved that in order for him to try to debase the industry as a whole, he has to use an isolated example at a terrible retailer that's known for screwing things up (go ahead, ask about my car's stereo), buy their product, AND use his family as a tool to get it.  Someone's really gotta kill this guy's judge jury and executioner complex because by now it's clear to EVERYONE, even his own demographic I'm certain, that he's a disgrace.

Recruitment / Re: Looking for mods for a creations board
« on: July 06, 2007, 01:00:34 am »
Either of you, just PM me there with the area you'd like to mod and any modding/specific subject experience.  The former's for obvious reasons, the latter is because for specific creation areas, I'm also choosing mods based on their experience in that area (ex. a flash animator for animation section).

I've posted information about the positions I need filled in the announcements section, the welcome topic.  Viewable by guests.  The board is already open, and so it's become a bit more pressing than it had been before.

My favorite 3 [Which I like to refer to as Trifection]:
  Elfin Lied
  Kino no Tabi [Kino's Journey]
  Serial Experiments Lain

Since you've seen one of the three, I suggest you see the other two.   XD

I like it, but comparing the OVA to the manga, I don't prefer either over the other.  Both definitly have a different style to them, and both are just plain awesome.

Other Discussion / Re: Freenet
« on: May 29, 2007, 04:02:25 pm »
It can function as that, but more or less it's like an internet within an internet.  Using your normal browser you can access freesites (sites on freenet), host them, transfer files over Fnet, send messages to people you've exchanged node references with (it's like a PM system for email), etc.  All of it is as anonymous as possible, since once you exchange node references with about 3 people, and are actively connected to them, you can access everyone else's nodes without your IP and other information getting forwarded.  It's like an internet where every site you visit is through a proxy, sorta =P

Freenet added a lot of F2F with version .7,  It has a full darknet system now.

Has anyone here tried Freenet yet?
It's an experimental kind of p2p network that'd been in development a long time, and the basic goal is to have the capability to have fully anonymous and uninterrupted freedom of speech on the net.  It's decentralized, it works well, and there are reports of it working in places like China where net use is restricted.  I'm trying to get it to run on my computer right now w/ a few small obstacles (faulty JVM it looks like, perhaps I should reinstall java).
Anyone else who uses Fnet, perhaps we can exchange node info?  I need to add some to connect still.

Kontroll
Grave of the Fireflies
Requiem For A Dream
Jacob's Ladder
Brotherhood of the Wolf
Brick
Donnie Darko
Man On The Moon
Fight Club
Cardcaptor Sakura

There are a few others...I'll edit as I remember them.  Only the ones that've had a profound effect on me [good thing this isn't about cds, that list would go on forever.  Also left anime OVAs out for obvious reasons.].

Hmm I'm always up for a challenge, but can Blender or Wings open .3ds formats? That's all I need for them.

Yep, has import for 3ds.

I downloaded Blender and Milkshape and really like them both great suggestions, but I need to figure out how to use them well.

For Blender, don't be shy about going to their IRC room.  They're very used to novice users and they can be a really great help.  Also, in the folder you've installed blender to you'll find a file called BlenderQuickStart.pdf, which is generally a great reference sheet to print out and use at first.  Lastly, the first thing I learned when I got Blender was what the users in the IRC room generally referred to as the golden rule, left hand on keyboard (asdf keys and the surrounding) and right hand on mouse.  Once you get used to the simple functions of many of the keys in this area of the keyboard, manipulating objects through rotation, resizing, etc all become routine and incredibly second nature.  Blender's intimidating at first because it lacks a lot of the documentation and examples you see in most other programs, but there are tons of tutorials and resources available on the site (and shortcuts to them in the program's help menu itself), so after you get the hang of finding the right ones it'll become more intuitive for ya.

Hey has anyone other than me notiiced that Links uncle in LTTP says "Zelda.... is.... your...." then croaks? Links a prince ZOMG!

It's actually meant to be somethign like "zelda is your destiny".  When they first translated from Japanese to English they realized that translating the kanji, it wouldn't fit in the text box or something like that, dunno how exactly that makes any sense XD but that's the way I understand it happened.

I never played Baten Kaitos, but I love Xenosaga.  Given that Episodes I/II are already remade for the DS (or in the process, Iunno if they've released yet) I'm really hopeful they could release more XS goodness on nintendo platforms in the future.  If only they could rmeake Xenogears, but I think SquareEnix might have the rights to that part of the series.

Guns don't kill people.

Spoons do.

No, forks.

You're both wrong.  It's sporks disguised as spoons.  Such a simple disguise nobody notices >.>
