I need suggestions.

I'll listen to anything really, except heavy/death metal, country, classical, new rap/hip-hop (ergh), and stuff like that.

Well, you just shot down a LOT of good music :P

Anyways, I'll ignore that, and just post it anyway (seriously, I do this all the time when people ask for music <_<)

Why did I have this feeling you'd be the first to post in this topic? (Nothing bad, just... random thought XD)

Anyways, I didn't say all rap/hip-hop... just the new crap, like soulja boy >_<

Well there's the classics like the Ramones, The Clash, Iggy Pop and The Stooges, those kinds of bands.
If you're into newer rock stuff there are a bunch of great indie bands like the Shins, The Von Bondies, the Strokes, Cinemechanica (these guys !@#$% rock), Death Cab For Cutie, etc
If you're looking for softer, kinda folkish music there's tons of great artists like Damien Rice, Elliott Smith, Iron and Wine, Flight of the Conchords (comedy folk :]), and the various Saddle Creek signed bands.
And of course there's the good techno/hip hop stuff like Frou Frou, Familjen, Uffie, and Lady Sovereign (I'm not sure if I spelled that correctly :/)

Any ways just a few suggestions. If you do change your mind about metal I have about a million great bands to recommend. Even still you should check out Protest the Hero. There kind of like punkish/rockish with Coheed and Cambria-ish vocals over sick prog metal guitar shredding. Not your typical bree bree growl brutal hardcore metal stuff, very melodic instead :]

I've heard of Protest the Hero, a few of my buddies went to two of their concerts or whatever here in Toronto, never heard them though, I should check them out.

Jimi Hendrix Experience:
-My Friend
-1983 (A Merman I Should Turn To Be)
-Burning of the Midnight Lamp

The Beatles:
-Happiness Is A Warm Gun
-Long, Long, Long
-Hey Jude

Bob Dylan:

-Tangled Up In Blue
-Knockin' On Heaven's Door

Other great bands:
Led Zeppelin
The Who
The Guess Who
The Doors
Crosby, Stills, and Nash
Creedence Clearwater Revival

You definitely need some Motorhead.

Also,:

Citizen Cope
Skindred *
Every Time I Die
At The Drive-In
Muse
Electric Six
Hed P.E.
Jurassic 5*
Kyuss
Mindless Self Indulgence
Motorpsycho
Pitchshifter
Rage Against The Machine*
Immortal Technique*
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
The Roots
Faith No More*
Nine Inch Nails*
Tool*

*= highly recommended.

If you like any of the bands on this list and want anymore in that specific vein lemme know, while you say no heavy metal, I'm not sure where you draw the limit at "heavy" and a lot of my music is hardcore/metal, techno, rock, etc.  So it's difficult to come up with some spur of the moment (*has a huge music collection and loves every song in it*)

Biggie Smalls

Make sure you have:

Suicidal Thoughts, Gimme The Loot, 1970 Something, Juicy, Hypnotize, Miss U

They are all by Biggie.  Some are released after death.
