Title: King of Thieves Revival - project definition phase beginning shortly
Post by: Kren on March 17, 2011, 04:11:18 am
Hello, MG-Zero and I are going to revive ZFGC community Project, King of Thieves, for this we would like to know who is willing to help us make this game come true, right now we would like to know who we can count with and what to they plan to aport to the team, here are the categories so far:

Software Engineering (Programming, planning, debugging etc)
Artwork (sprites and concept art)
Sound (sfx and music)
Game Design (story, characters, items, dungeons etc.  Although a good chunk of this is done already and just needs sorting.)

I beleive that what we need more right now is Game Design, we want to get clear what exactly needs to be done before the spriting/music/programming is done.

Phases of the actual project development would probably go something like this:

Project definition and requirements gathering - What the project is, whats the scope, what will it need.  Leaded mainly by the Game Design division.

System Design - Designing what the engine will need to do, how it will be done etc.  This is also where sounds, artwork etc is done.  Entire team participates.

Coding/Debugging - Putting everything from the previous 2 stages together into a working thing.  Leaded mainly by the Software Engineering division with support from the other 3 divisions.

So yeah ;p, lets complete King of Thieves!

My contribution:

The Project Definition phase is first.  We're primarily looking for filling out the game design division, although we are of course still going to take people on for the other divisions as well.  And of course, you can work in more than one division.  Also, I'd like to add that we need a director for each division.  So if you have interest in this project, please say so and say where you would like to contribute.  Please note that there will be quality control on any content submitted :)

EDIT: I"ll be more than happy to direct the software engineering division if no one objects.

Since I once actually managed the project at one point, I would love to contribute.  From what I remember, I think I focused really on wanting to design/layout dungeons.  Ironing out items and whatnot and cutscenes would be pretty sweet to work on as well.
Overall, I think I would fit well with just design, concept, and testing.
If called upon(though my abilities IMO suck), I could help out somewhat with sprites.
That being said, are we sticking with MC or going back to old ZFGC style?
More I think about it, I would be better off as a jack-of-all-trades...contributing everywhere in one way or another.

We're not making any decisions on style or programming languages just yet.  I personally think that will come in the second phase of the project.  I'm gonna start a list in the original post of the team, if anyone wants it to be changed, please say so!  Foreshadower, I'll put you under all 4 areas for now.

Sounds good.
Now, I shouldn't get bored now through the summer.  This, UN Squadron, and the XNA tutorials are more than enough.

Greetings all! It's been forever since I've posted here, though I still occasionally lurk from time to time.

As one of the original programmers for this project, I just wanted to wish you all good luck. If you have any questions or need any extra help with small things here and there, send a PM my way.

I'd help, too, if you need any more help. Software Engineering (the programming part only, if it's done in Game Maker, and maaaybe if it's done in something else), and Game Design of course.

Reading the Story (http://www.zfgc.com/forum/index.php?topic=13201.0) and walking around the rich part of Hyrule Castle Town (http://www.zfgc.com/forum/index.php?topic=28931.msg356236#msg356236) really make you wish this game was completed.
Let's all hope, that this time it will be.  :)
I'm sure we can do it!

Since I'm aiming to be a Game Designer for my career, sign me up as a Game Designer.

I can also program if we're using an actual language.

I would love to help with writing the game script. I'm not sure how much time I can devote to the project because of other responsibilities, but I can write dialogue and stuff.

I think we'll keep this going until Thursday to make it a week, then we can pull out directors.

Interesting.  Ill get a helping hand with some of the game design.  So are we going to bring back the KoT thread or make a new one, but with all the old resources?

I would like to volunteer my services xD I've been inactive for a huge chunk of time, due to sickness and travels, but my computer's been rebooted, Dawning Hour is back underway, and all hell has officially broken loose, and then been dealt with. Anyways, I'd like to offer my support in the Conceptual Art department, as well as the Organization of Game Design. I have plenty of ideas, and have already acquainted myself with the previous King of Thieves thread. If this indeed in Minish Cap style, I can maybe be useful in the spriting area also. If you'd like ma halp, feel free to lemme know =)

We're going to salvage what we can from the old thread.

I'll help with what I can.  I am a bit busy for the next few weeks with studying and taking my certification test, but after that my schedule is pretty open.

You said something earlier about Thursday in which you'd be doing more stuff in regard to this and also something about salvaging the old board stuff. Anyway I was just going to let you know that I am going to be busy between Wednesday (8:00 AM test for Differential Equations) to Friday (11:00 AM test and 10:00 PM homework assignment deadline for Enterprise Application Environments) - possibly if I don't get the homework assignment done I'll be using the whole of the weekend so that I only get 10% off of it.

Anyway, the point of mentioning that is if you want a board set up this week so that if you wanted further planning and management stuff to happen there, I could still set it up but I am just being upfront about my busyness then. With the Sponsored board obsolete under the current layout, the King of Thieves board would probably go under the Zelda Projects category - with the old King of Thieves board "recycled". Not sure how or if you would be having child boards of the King of Thieves board but those could be set up too if need be. Oh, and if you wanted to have the board private when you are cleaning it up or setting stuff up that can be arranged or whatever.

When I referred to Thursday, I meant when we will be moving to the next step, i.e. choosing directors for each division.  If we need to wait for you to set a board up, it's not a problem!

Nothing wrong with signing up later and/or tossing in some occasional help, yeah? I'm busy but might poke my head in now and again if allowed. I'm excited to see this project turn out.

Yes, that's fine.  Also, I decided against using a mass PM as that could get disorganized very quickly.  We'll just decide on directors here.  See first post for details!

I volunteer for the Game Design Director's spot since I have previous experience leading the previous attempt at the project.
I would, however, be a more hands-on director. :)

Not yet, I remember you said you'd code if we're using a real language, so I put you up on there for now.

I could be a director if need be. I am used to managing large or small groups.

For art or game design?  There's a volunteer for both of those already, so you two will have to decide on who's gonna be it :)

I am not picky, but I was thinking since you need a sound director maybe I could direct game design and foreshadower could do sound(another of his departments).  Then again I could direct sound to I guess, but I am no composer.

If foreshadower is alright with that, then go for it!  Send him over a PM

I suggested Co-Directing with Bludleef as my audio skills are no where near good enough to take the role of a director for that.
He said he is up for it it you allow Co-Directing, MG-Zero.

Co-directing for audio?  Yea, we can do that.

Alright, so I guess that closes the director spots then.  4Sword, when you get a chance, can you get that board setup?

As for us, the first phase is going to begin.  Project definition!  As soon a s the board is up, I'll begin moving content over from the old board and we'll decide on what story elements and such can be salvaged.  Remember, this phase is not for artwork, sound or programming.  This is strictly game design driven right now.

Oh, derp.  Yea, that would make sense considering it's the largest division.

Ok, so we need a sound director then.  I guess that can wait though, sound isn't until phase 2.

Alright, while we wait for the board, the current information that we have on the project is going to be organized.  Kren and myself will get a document up with everything in it that can be carried over as far as story goes.
