Story - Chopik is the oddly one-of-a-kind animal who happens to be the hero of this tale. He roamed the forests thick and thamble until one morning Chopik met two Beavers, hard puffing away at building "Fort Beaver". Chopik stopped to say hi. But before he could the Beavers challenged him to a Build-Off. He had no time to decline the challenge either. The rules were simple enough; construct a building bigger than "Fort Beaver" by moonup or be forced to serve the Beaver bros forever! The sun rose up, and then it went down, and one building stood the most towerful. Which one was it? Vote for Chopik to uncover the rest of the story! Will Chopik end up serving a lifetime of Beaver Control!? Lets sure hope not!

I'm not sure. I love love love the character design, and I also love the story but the two just don't fit. The first seems great for one of those E-rated Nintendo games that everybody plays because it's lovely, and the story seems like an eerie feudal Japanese folk-tale. And those two things just don't fit. I'm not sure.

Too bad there aren't a lot of girls on ZFGC. If there were, this character would make it to the semi-finals for sure..at least. :P

You can edit anything at any time you like before the brackets. It's your character, and technically the competition hasn't even begun... So you can do pretty much anything! Give him a machine gun, it doesn't mind me!

Yep. Even though the style and the entire character look absolutely nothing like that, people still point out that it copies something because it's a giraffe.

Uma means that the one who said I was copying is Phail. I know this because Uma hates all people who point out that a character is "copying" someone. Oh noes he are copying a draff!

Can we please get off this whole idea of copying? First of all, this character only looks slightly remeniscent of that pokemon, and it's obviously not a copy or clone. But that is irrelevant anyways, because there is no requirement that the image has to be an original creation. Now, you guys need to lighten up and stop criticizing other people's creations so much.
By the way, I like this one, he's very nicely drawn (I like the sig :D)

Phail to the people who point these things out. The only way it could work is if the character actually looked like something that already existed. Sure, its a giraffe, but it looks nothing like that pokemon.

Very nice! I don't like how the neck is very slimmed down though, but it's definently an improvement. I really like how it's such a simple design, but in this case, simplicity works well!

EDIT: Also, you didn't say Chopik accepted. I assume he did, but I'm like that with story flaws. So yeah, please fix it.

I love the new shading. Oh, and did you update the story? I believe last time I read it, the Beavers imprisoned Chopik and you needed to vote to free him. Now it's vote to make it lightier?

How can this be!? Kame, the old Chopik was terribly shaded. Many had told me so. It is sad to see such a dedicated vote lost to a poor cause. I hope you will still vote him over Tam Tam.

OK, I will say I do like the new neck better. But the shading is awful.
If you're going to use solid-color shading you can't be progressive. It just looks awful. And the spots of lighter color around the edges at the bottom look awful and could not possibly come from the same "light source" as the rest of the body. The colored outline looks crappy, especially against the horns. Solid-color shading only uses one shade, although ahighlight can be added.
Looking at those two, I can't see why on earth you'd choose the second. It looks like a sloppy, unprofessional, unfinished piece of work with lots of mistakes so far. The first is smooth, easy on the eyes, solid and simple. It looks like something from a WW-esque sort of game. The second looks like a badly animated children's game.

If I do not fix these problems it is cause I like the way they look. Everyone seems to like the first one best. Okay, if in his next match they do what I ask and use the updated artwork; just envision the artwork you like... AND VOTE CHOPIK! Whether he wins of loses, I will reveal the end of the story.

Envision the artwork we like? OK, how about this? I'll envision that the Red Shirt Boys are actually the cast of Doctor Who and vote for them. Right? Yeah? No. If people don't like the art, change it. Plus, your first image has got a nice area between being to desaturated and too bright. Your others are too bright. And the elephant legs take away the smooth, bubbly, organic look he has. They look clumsy and awful and new Chopik sucks - revert to first.

Moldrill, they're giving you constructive criticism about the drawing of your character. They're telling you what they think you can do to improve it. And seeing as this is a competition where you want people to like how you character is (not just yourself), it would be a good idea to consider their suggestions.

Fourth, but desaturate the colours a bit, please.

..the original is still better, besides the neck. The legs coming out of the body instead of from underneath just look odd however it's done. And the other color on the lowe rhal fof the stomach on the original looks very nice.. as does the solid outline.
Basically the only thing about the original that isn't as good is the straight neck. Number 2 had the best neck shape.

For me the first one is still better.
I'd recommend using the second one's body with the colors of the first one. Then adding some shading to the face (but different from the second one's shading)

The fourth does have shading on the face. Its a slight gradient.
It seems that here I cannot please everyone. I do not wish to lose votes for these silly little things. Although I will try and follow as much of your advice I cannot do everything that everyone wants. This should not change who you vote for. These are just details. The important thing is the concept is liked.
As for the legs coming off the front, it makes him seem much nicer looking in my opinion. It looks like he is in a sitting position almost. I always thought the old legs looked awkward. They don't make sense if you think about it. I seem to have lost the file for the first two Chopik's unfortunately so I hope the newest one has made some more people a bit happier.
I gave him bubbly legs like asked for, although I did not make them odd like the old ones. And I gave him a skinnier neck.

The "odd" old ones are nice because they're ver smooth and come straight out of the body like everything else in the image. And no you probably can't please everyone. But you can please the majority that prefers desaturated colors and a skinny neck.

I have made the neck skinnier. I am too tired today to desaturate the colors. And I still dont see why. Give me a good reason to and I will desaturate them tomorrow.

I would have to say not Kame. I have some complaints with yours. I dislike whatever effect you used on your outlines. And again I dislike his old legs. I will desaturate the colors tomorrow but other than that you have no reason for disliking the new one.

I know, the lines went wonky when I traced your image into Inkscape, but I kind of like it - it has a nice free-flowing feel to it. Anyway, it's just an example of the ideal Chopik.
